hmmm, Dr Yes tries to say yes, but in regards to OotS origins I would have to say ... maybe.
See if you can achieve what you want to do without it, if it proves to be a bit of a hurdle to you PM me the crunchy bits and I'll get back to you with some kind of dubious tradeoff.

On a slightly related note an obvious oversight on my part was not mentioning/allowing the Fixer/Lawman/Thief/Thug from the previews.  These classes are definitely allowed and I have ammended my early post to reflect this.

I've set up a thread for useful references and characters.  Please post your characters on their when you can, if you have part of a character and want to get down what you have just put '(Incomplete)' at the top.  Expect to see a very brief setting/background overview and a few starter hooks to ponder over within the next day.

Ok I've put a very brief outline below.  Despite some credibility holes I think it leaves a good amount of opportunities for your characters (which is the main thing).  Keep in mind the game is more about your characters and their dealings with npcs, so don't get too bogged down in other setting related details.

I'm also trying to keep the information I present brief and to the point, I don't want to inflict pages of waffle on you.  If you need more information about something I present just ask and I'll expand breifly on that point.

Quote from: Sapphire City Travellers Guide

A Very Brief Overview of Sapphire City
Sapphire City was built from nothing, work started just over 10 years ago and some parts of the city have only recently been completed.  It was constructed by several prosperous companies that amalgamated under the Emergence Technologies Conglomerate, with the aim of providing alternative workplaces and lifestyles for the managers, admininstrators, researchers and their families.
Most builldings and facilities within the city are in very good condition, and large parts of the city have maintained a modern near-new feel.  The city is filled to the brim with premises offering the goods and services craved by consumers with plenty to spend. As well as shops and malls there are casinos, nighclubs, bars, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, hotels, amusement parks, sporting facilities and a large variety of other entertainment venues.  In addition to the staff who provide these thriving support businesses a large number of tourists travel here to experience "the Sapphire City lifestyle".
In a city that produces few durable products, almost everything is imported - by plane, train, road and sea freight. This in turn has lead to the northern third of the city becoming a major transport hub connecting other cities and production areas in the region. The importance of this hub, and the research of some of the ETC companies, has seen the development of several important nearby military facilities.
Nothing good lasts for ever however. The fortunes of the ETC companies have shifted, with one company divided by a bitter internal dispute and another on the verge of collapse as a result of shifting markets. The easy wealth lifestyle has seen the emergence of vice, corruption, and the highly addictive drugs 'chill' and 'pump'. Organised crime is gaining influence, and a violent gang culture is developing amoung some of those who have been less fortunate in recent times. To add to these concerns, an 'undisclosed emergency' at one of the corporate research labs has seen a quarantine zone placed around a six kilometer square block of the city.

A bit later on I'll post up a few different avenues for early investigation in the game.  You can use this to get ideas for any incomplete parts of your character and any planning you might want to start up.

Illuminatus doesn't fit my evolving character concept at the moment, may go con-artist (I thought someone was already going that route, but can't find it in the thread). Though may not even start with it. Fiddling with builds now.
Concept is currently a Hacker with a heavy seduction aspect, though I'd still like to be fairly contact heavy.

I believe nezmaster may be going faceman/con-artist.
So if you avoid the faceman part you should be fine, and I believe his build is more 'persuassion' heavy then contact heavy.

On a slighty related note - if other people are looking for a quick concept I can picture Cleaners, Guides, Field-anaylsts, Transporters and Brawlers having good fun (as well as combinations mentioned earlier by others).  The Fixer, Thief, Thug or Martial Artist combined with another base class could also make for some interesting options.

The current situation is I have 1 player ready, 1 player close to ready, other players who probably need more time, and potentially some players who haven't joined yet.

To try make the most of things I am posting the list of potential initial contacts early (now).  This means people who are ready can start thinking about how they may approach things early on.  Others who are still working on their character may find it useful information to keep in mind as they finish it up.  If I'm lucky it may encourage some more players to join the fun.

Feel free to use this thread for any planning, chatting and OOC stuff.

Quote from: Agency Briefing - Eyes Only

NPC: Graham Boscoe (Forward Deployment Agent)

Graham is a forward deployment specialist that was sent in 3 months ago to establish a safe house and identify a list of potential initial candidates for contact by your team.  Unfortunately Graham has been threatened with blackmail by 'Mike the Hammer' (see below), who claims to have unspecified 'compromising' surveilance of Graham.  Our immeadiate concern is that this unspecified surveillance may also compromise agency activities conducted by Graham.  We need to assume Graham could still be under surveillance, so contact with him should be avoided or exceptionally discreet (to avoid compromising your own operation).

NPC: 'Mike the Hammer' (Extortionist)

Other then his extortion of Graham (see above), very little is know about Mike at this stage.  He is due to meet with Graham at 'The Hardyard' drinking house in two days time.  Mike is demanding an intial exchange of $500 in return for a 'copy' of the blackmail material, and will make further demands known at that time.  The agency team may deal with this matter as they wish - however caution is advised as Mike will no doubt have several contingencies in place.  Once concern is that he probably has other copies of the material elsewhere, possibly in the possession of anyone else he may be working with.  We do not know if Mike is in contact with any of the people Graham has dealt with recently, but that should also be investigated.
Photo (Bruce Willis, imdb)
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Events/0679-the/willisb1.uce

NPC: Nathan Baum (Sapphire Transport and Distribution)

Nathan Baum hires and supervises warehouse staff and drivers for STD, a potential cover occupation for one or more agents.  Graham attended an interview and advises that agents have plenty of opportunity to bypass the standard hiring difficulties they may encounter with other organisations.  In particular - he shortcuts corporate recruitment procedures and background checks, is keen to hire people less competent then himself, and appears more then eager for mates-rates bribes involving alcohol, parties and sporting events.
Photo (Adam Sandler, imdb)
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Events/6265/ActorAdam_Steve_14518343_400.jpg

NPC: Amanda Noakes (Celebrity Secruity Adviser)

Amanda Noakes hires security, drivers and bodyguards for celebrities and celebrity events.  Graham's initial assessment is that she is a bitter, vain woman who is constantly trying to push into celebrity cirlces in the hope of becoming a celebrity herself.  Graham indicates she has alienated a lot of her ex-staff, and is initially rude and dismissive to most potential job applicants.  This behaviour, combined with very poor organisation skills, guarantees that she is frequently hurrying to find new staff at the last minute to make up for unanticipated shortfalls.  Like some other consultants and advisers, she has no actual background or practical experience in security related issues herself.
Photo (Parris Hilton, imdb)
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Events/6285/HOLLYWOOD_Jean_14548201_400.jpg

NPC: Kim Lloyd (Freelance Finacial Services)

Kim left finance and audit firm Kapa-Hari-Beuson to set up his own independent business.  Graham believes that he may have been forced to leave due to drug related issues, but understands he is still in contact with several old associates in KHB.  Graham also reports that Kim is probably providing money laundering and tax evasion services, but appears to be losing some of his clients money to gambling and bad investments.  Kim's most recent investment fiasco is his "management" of a small group of rental appartments that are currently occupied by a street gang.
Photo (Hugh Grant, imdb)
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0313737/C482-2C.jpg

NPC: Samantha Carlton (Ex Agency, Alternate Energy)

Samantha has previously done research and forgery work for the agency, but left by mutual agreement after the death of a very close friend in a traffic acident.  Samantha moved to Saphire city 18 months ago and now works in document control for Alternate Energy.  Agents should be careful bringing Samantha back into agency issues, however future circumstances may make her a useful contact worth approaching.

Yeah there is always room for one more in a forum game.  People tend to go missing for short periods of time, so its good to have a few extra to help the rest keep rolling along.   ;)

Welcome aboard, and please excuse me while I'll go sort out what is wrong with Hugh Grant's picture (other then being a picture of HG that is).  If he has gone an pulled out of this project I may need to set my lawyers on him.

* Late Edit: imdb is being stingy with their photo sharing.  I'll come up with another arrangement later on, the photos are nice to have but not really that important in terms of the main event.

Can you colour me interested also?

Of course,  I am rather busy at work these days, so if I disappear then you know why...

I'm obsessed with the ingenue / Femme Fatale concept, but I'd have to think about it.

Also, for character concept generation, I don't think you've really specified what this agency that the characters work for is? Are we talking government, or more corporate espionage activities?

Good to see an interesting assortment of characters coming together.

I anticipate some people posting less or being out of action for short periods.  That should be fine as long as everyone appreciates the others will probably keep rolling on in the meantime.

Can you colour me interested also?

Yep, interested is good.

Thats a good point about the agency, I'll post something brief about it later on.  In the mean time think along the lines of a low profile agency that collects intelligence in the spheres of government, corporate, criminial, military and prominent individuals.

I've put an agency outline below.  I intended to keep it short but got carried away (again), so the short version is below and the setting website has the long version.  If you have any questions or concerns just ask.

Quote from: Agency Overview and Background

"Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." - English Proverb

The Agency was formed to prevent (or at the worst, assist recovery from) any large-scale disaster that could throw the world (or multiple regions) into unrecoverable chaos.

To achieve its aims, activities are focused on intelligence gathering from all aspects of society, and establishing an adaptable network of agents that each has a diverse range of skills and contacts.  The agency also funds its ongoing operations by "redirecting" financial assets from targets who are deemed to be "a part of the problem" - such as criminal groups, unethical corporations, corrupt politicians and inefficient government/military projects.  The agency also has to continually work at keeping itself off the public radar, and on occasion needs to take care of agents who stray from the cause.

NezMaster gets an action dice for first character posted and completed in playable detail.

I am anticipating some players being hesitant due to the different format, along with the usual forum game cycles of enthusiam and distraction.

I happen to be working on the npcs/setting anyway, so I don't really have anything to lose.  ;)  Everyone else will need to scale their involvement with what suits them at any point in time.   8)

On a related note, I'm thinking alot of the character based dialog will run better if they just involve one player per npc at a given moment.  The group involvement will be more relevant as you support each other with off-camera ability uses and skill checks; and more interesting as you start trading the results of your progress between each other.

Since I had not thoroughly looked over the missions when I got my mission picks, I'd like to change my Charisma reserve to "Cover ID: Mob Enforcer, Numbers and Gambling Debts....from whatever city Graham is believed to have come from.

Presuming I can do that..Here's my plan.

Part 1> Prepare a very brief note:
"Amount Owed 24,000..Interest accumulating. Date before action is taken (7 days from todays date)
A small portion on the bottom of the note reads...
"Mr. Boscoe: I'm here to get you out of trouble. We are being watched. My threats and actions are to get the attention I need. Discreetly but completely destroy the bottom part of the note when I leave. Tear the top part up and place it in a garbage can.

Part 2> Confront Graham Boscoe and slip him the note. I will inform him openly not to keep his appointment for later that day. I will be threatening and violent with this request.

Part 3> Show up at the Hardyard and tell Mike the Hammer that I may be interested in purchasing the material he has on Graham. I will inform him that my employers already have an investment in Graham, and since Mr Grahams life span may be short, we are interested in any profit we can gain from the arrangement. We want the information he has to protect our interests.

WE can pick this up wherever you like. Once I meet Mike the Hammer, I'll be using the Mark feat.

That's the plan. I'm sure it will go wrong long before I get that far, but that's the plan.
(is this what you had in mind?)
90% of all statistics are wrong.
