Yep thats cool, you will never be worse off for having a cover identity.
Justed want to make it clear I won't be expecting them to be used in every case.

2) That is definitely doable.  I encourage you to make big picture plans, then break it down into a series of objectives/mini-missions collecting some input from me.  Throw around overview/plans on this thread and then we can jointly agree on a first step.  This ideally what I want you guys doing, the events and npcs I have thrown your way are just a starting point.

Okay, tentative plan that other players can comment on:
(a) Get one of the more celebrity-looking of us to hire Noakes' force. Looking at you, valley girl Smiley.
(b) We build out a barebones front as a celebrity security company.
(c) Once that is done, the rest of us put together an attack plan and catch her force completely and utterly pantsless. We want to be at the point where we can say "if we wanted to take this client out, we would right now. Your security force sucks. If you don't want this hitting the press tomorrow, you will start taking 'suggestions' from us." If she says yes, we are done (carefully watching her so she doesn't cross us). If she says no, we rapidly flesh out the company from (b), expose Noakes, and start stealing her clients.

What do people think? If you don't think we can trust her under pressure, then we can just expose her either way, in which case the front in (b) should be fleshed out immediately.

1) Its you guys and Graham.  Thats why there is an initial emphasis on meeting assorted people as that gives you potential access to specialists, contacts, networks, and maybe even a few recruits later.  Caliber II represents only that the agency wants you guys starting low key.  As you make progress you will get more funds from the agency and your own operations.  If you want a significant item ask me and i'll give you a few options on how you might get it.  Graham may have some intersting ideas for you on real-estate to use as a safehouse or base.

Okay. Having a base and the start of a back-office should probably be a pretty high priority, then. And I bet Synth would love to have some R&D guys at her disposal Smiley. Once we're done with the immediate priority of getting the mess with Graham sorted out, we can look into this.

3) Developing a front operation is a great idea, and would be tackled like a slightly longer version of point 2) above.  If you find a small group inside Sapphire City you would get quicker progress then setting something up completely from scratch

4 and 5) Just tell me what you want to do as you next step - examples include - "Try get access to the room of the murder possing as a hotel service technician", "Arrange for graham to pay mike $500, then tail him and find out where he goes from there".

re: 3 - looks like our leads on that are the security company, Mike the Hammer's organization, and the Chicago mob. The first one I outlined a plan on above. The second will need to wait until we get a better idea of how far up Mike's bosses go. The third I'm leaving entirely up to Leopard/Vinny.

re: 4 and 5 - you've got those in the relevant thread (recap - get to the hotel room using P.I. ID, get dossiers on Mike and Sophia in that order, see if one of the sneaky types can tail Mike).

Also, on a slightly unrelated note - I'm having a lot of trouble keeping track of who's doing what where when. To this end, I am adding an extra post to the character reference thread that I will keep updated with info on what Nietzsche's involvement in every scene is and what he's working on at this very moment. I'd love for everyone else to do the same.

Hmmm, I'm not sure Reese wants to hire a bodyguard because that rather cramps her style if she needs to use some of her (admittedly less well developed) illicit skills. Though, perhaps the aforementioned cover identity could hire the bodyguard...

I'll start updating what Reese is doing on multiple threads if she comes to be involved in more than one thread.

Lastly, I'm headed for bed here. I'm in Australia and I'll be at work in 8 hours. Trying to deny it, but I guess I gotta sleep. Smiley Incidentally for RL timing issues, where is everybody located in the world?

I'm unusually busy today, I'll get back to everyone as soon as I can.

However:
- Dossiers are on the way.
- Can someone point me to the 2.0 rules for creating (not purchasing) a cover identity?
- The visit to the crime scene and the cocktail party will be handled a little bit later on.
- At present the scene 2 thread has a very broad scope, I'll try keep the next few scenes a bit more specific, which should help with some of the "tracking where and when" issues.
- If another player wants you to help with their plan, but you don't like what they have asked you to do, try offer an alternative/compromise way to help them.  For example Reese/Bubbalin may think a fulltime bodyguard would cramp her style.  But to help Rabidgerbil she may be prepared to go through the motions of hiring a bodyguard, and maybe use it on a few specific (possibly just decoy/sideline) occassions purely to help progress that goal.

No, I was just speaking my mind. Streams of consciousness and all that. Like I said, my alter ego might hire a bodyguard...

Rules Question:

I like the way this game sort of flows in and out, and how missions can bump into each other. It's how I run usual games. I haven't figured out how to make that work in spycraft for several reasons.

Not the least of those is that several abilites are based 'per mission'. So, how does that work? Will they kick in when we complete a mission? Never? Every so often?

Cover ID 4: Ken White: Driver: squeaky clean past. Rode breifly in the race circuit, then retired to an elite limo service in North Hollywood. False Bank accounts show previously high balance, but currently very low. Interests: Cars, Racing Profession: Driver

Ken would like to attend the Phoenix Engine cocktail party unveiling the new vehicle. Is it possible to get in?

I'll make calls for resets to 'per scene', 'per mission', etc based on how much you have done/achieved and how much else has happened.  I think achieving 3 mini objectives or one significant objective would see me issue a mission reset and reward xp.  If you want to prompt me for a reset at any stage (as I could sometimes forget to do it promptly) I will not be offended.

So, RabidGerbil, what do you think of Claire (Reese's Cover) hiring a security guard from Amanda Noakes? I'm thinking that she can say that Dome-Nova is considering setting up a research facility in Sapphire City, and that Claire is here to investigate that.

Yes Ken can attend.  After asking around a little he has several options:

1) A guest speaker has had to pullout at the last minute due to health issues.  If Ken would like to give an entertaining 15 minute presentation (a brief two paragraph post highlight would be sufficient) on when he was in the racing circut he would be most welcome.
2) While asking around you have met somone who is running an 'elite calibre' charter/taxi service who wants someone well spoken to help him at his trade booth.
3) A scalper seems to have one spare ticket, he wants $150.

I think the speech might be over the top. To much chance of people asking "well i've never heard of him, have you heard of him?" I mean most people wouldn't think anythign of not having heard of a race driver from years back, unless he's elevated to the point of 'speaker'. Then that kind of thing comes up and they wonder who HAS heard of him. When they discover, virtually no one, it doesn't play well to keeping the cover.

Option #2 seems the best bet. I'll go work the booth. Gets me talking to lots of people and develops a presence without being too in your face about it.

Reese could probably find somebody to blow things up... Maybe she can do it after the funeral tomorrow. Smiley

Yep thats fine.  Where I can I'll try present different options so people can choose an approach that is how they want to do it.  Players are also free to take the option they like most and suggest changes if they prefer something else, and of course suggest their own approaches.

I'll add an intro post for you in scene 2 in a little while, and provide details of your previous black market enquiries in scene 1.

Bubbalin
You have a scene 2 update coming soon.

Rabid Gerbil
Not taking away from your long term planning/goals - your next stop would be a chat with Graham (which has a slight risk, not sure if you want to proceed?) or investigation of the guarded 3 day old crime scene (which I need a mini-plan for how you might get in there).  I'll get to your action next, but if I don't hear from you I make take the liberty of assuming you risk speaking to Graham, as I can resolve that fairly quickly.

Spinning Dice
I think you said you would be busy IRL for a while, so I'm assuming you are doing research into the super computer and conducting preliminary testing against the security of an assortment of online computer systems in Sapphire City's.

Dr Yes - He'll wait on chat with Graham until our centralized cover org is more set (either as an extension of what Vinny did, or anything else we can settle on).

As far as the crime scene investigation - reposting my previous thoughts for reference:

Quote
He probably has no legit reason to be there, and he will determine his approach based on the sort of cops guarding the place. If they look like pros he'll capitalize on his previous experience and renown, act fully professional and offer future assistance/favors, and offer to tell them of anything he finds; if they look incompetent he'll just try to steamroll over them with legalese and bluster and act like he's got every right to be there.

So basically step the next is show up there under the P.I. ID and see if he can figure out just how pro the cops are, which will determine the continuation of his approach (feel free to go off of his sense motive or anything else you want there).

As an FYI - I am unlikely to have time for a detailed response until tomorrow night at the earliest, so no rush on taking care of me.

A brief lull in my usual posting as I get the majority of the mechanics for my 'Public Liberty' pulp character sorted out, we will be back to your scheduled broadcast soon.

The blackmarket check for a demolitions guys was unsuccessful - did anyone want to try use one of their contacts (2.0 pg 458) as a consultant with the demolitions skill before I write up that search.  I thought I'd ask as its maybe a nice single skill use allocation for a consultant (you can try contact him and say you need him a bit later if preferred).

RabidGerbil - I will set your task up as the next scene a bit later, with you visiting the crime scene while the others are at the party.
