It looks fake to me.

There's a slight colorization change of the cat prior to when it hits the ground.

It may not be, but I have my reservations.

I don't know. It's an animated GIF that looks like it was made from video captured from video tape of a TV broadcast of video shot with consumer video equipment twenty years ago (based on the inside edition logo), with a subject moving from a high white balance (the sky) to a low white balance (the ground/houses) background. Any of that could explain the apparent color change of the cat.

Note: I think white balance is the term, but it's been a while since I worried about such things and I wasn't a Comm major.

Well... if it was 20 years ago, the white balance on cameras were that quick or efficient. Besides the white balance would have impacted the shot and not just the cat itself. I need a pause button because there are a few spots in the clip I would like to slow down and just look at it frame by frame.

Until otherwise I'm still willing to give it a slight benefit of a doubt.

Save the gif and open it in a decent graphic application. it should let you extract all the frames. There's a lot of noise and other crap in the file though, and a good bit of what looks like dithering. However zooming the image ot near full screen does show that the whole frame gets dimmer as the cat crosses the white house in the background, and there's not jumps or breaks in the movement.

Is that thing an electric prod?  Grin

Looks more like a loop of thick wire, or similar. The catcher was probably trying to get it around the cat's neck before carrying it back down the ladder.

Yes - but the prod would have gone a long way explaining the cat's use of "that's impossible!" as a grenade jump of sorts. Smiley

It's actually potentially useful as a handout for certain types of near future games because of the work being done regarding conventional Trident II SLBMs using unarmed Mk4 RVs with GPS guidance. Apparently the RV develops enough kinetic energy falling from space to make any sort of explosive redundant.

In real life I doubt the system will ever get deployed since you could never really use it without triggering a nuclear exchange.
