Basically, you were trying to change a balanced abstract vehicle combat mini-game into a (more) detailed air combat game. Most of the maneuvers and tactics of close air combat would be smash and in the description of what each strategy does.

As for "realistic" physics space combat, I think you could use the chase conflict more or less as is, but you'd need to adjust the time for a turn to minutes or more. Maybe borrowing the concept of different turn lengths based on lead from the hacking conflict. You'd also need to change the speed for terrain and what distance each lead represents. Probably also re-describe smash (since it's not potential energy from altitude, but it would still exist). Similar to some thoughts I had on ship to ship combat in a Napoleonic like setting. Replace the term smash with weather gage and it should work OK.

*nods*  Yep.  And for all of these reasons, I yielded my idea.  My brain got stuck in the "chase = ground" concept.. and it took me a bit to get back out of that.  ..and a few wasted brainstorming hours.  No big deal.  Just my brain turning a little slower than normal. lol.  Plus, as one of my players put it.. "The rest of our ...brain trust.. has a hard enough time trying to remember that being the prey is bad, nevermind if you introduce a whole new idea."

Side Note:  A mass combat mechanic could be cool.  Not sure if it'd be a Dramatic Conflict or not..

I've dedicated a fair bit of brain sweat to this actually and I'm hoping we can address some of the potential for more detail and broader options. In particular I want to expand the storytelling potential by making Dramatic Conflicts more about framing interesting action that's relevant to your story. Get them back to the root of their inspiration: the wonderful scenes lifted from so many of our favorite movies and TV shows.

But, of course, that's a topic for a bit down the road. Smiley
