That would be the shipwright.

  • armory/guard barracks

This I'm not so sure on -- as I recall, Scott's description made it sound like it's more posse than militia when it comes to matters of security

Any masters of wiki-dom want to get this compiled and added over there?

I think what I was aiming for here was something for the Trade guild goons that were the only actual formalized sorta guard outpost at all.  Their job was to protect their goods not necessarily the city.  As for the armory part, I was thinking that there would be a place that kept the militia's weapon stores and would also function as a merchant of sorts to buy/sell weapons to adventurers and other things.  Since the guild seemed to be the biggest piece of the puzzle, why not have their small garrison of troops run a small armory that is quasi-informal out of their barracks?

Which is why I thought it should be back on the first page, at least for a bit. We've gained a lot of new posters since the book came out Smiley.

Ooo. I like that:). Very frontieers-ey and a great place to cash in weapons seized during adventuring.

What's the level of hygene understanding/technology in this society?

I'm leaning towards fantasy standard (a.k.a. above fuedal Europe, but not fuedal Japan). Bathing and washing is understood to promote health but may not be daily activities. Isolating fecal waste is understood to promote health and mulching it in nightsoil piles prior to use in aggroculture is a common practice. Plumbing is rare and genrally open and exterior rather than enclosed tubes (gutters and some light irrigation tech). Certain herbs/woods will be grown specifically for perfuming purposes to offset odors. Soap is primative and rare - extensive surface scrubbing will have to suffice. Roman-style lathering with vegatable oil and scraping with a strigel would consitute a special occasion and possibly a specialized service. Some miners are going to want to get as clean as possible immediately after returning from the mines and spending time in town with their families.

So what all else do we need to brainstorm out for the town?  Its looking like we've got it pretty well hashed.  A few finalized tweaks on a map and we're pretty solid.

Need to set up a master list of dramatis persona (wiki page thing mostly, to let folks adding adventures draw on existing figures where interesting/appropriate)

...and then more adventures! Smiley

(plus answering further questions as they arise)

Since I lack Wiki-fu I decided to collect all the dramatis persona together from the adventures so far.  Excluding most of the villains I think.

Atesh the Bowmaster is the master Scout for the Northern Trade League. The smooth-spoken and graceful Ahset often hands out assignments to passing adventures to build goodwill for his League.

Dockmaster Swint - Dwarf with a peg leg who runs the Dock's business

Crush Tail - Saurian with a club tail that captains a ship of other saurian pirates

Tariq of Three-waves - Injured Ahset Sailor and sole survivor of the Tide Tempest merchant vessel

Mistress Kyleea - Apothecary/Healer taking care of Tariq

Randi the Barmaid - Jaano villager

Captain Sahleed - Ahset Captain and owner of the tradeship Whirling Dervish

Rory Albrecht - Jaano villager

Mister Drobold - member of the Northern Trading Company, Dwarf

Mac Callister - Jaano Mine Forman, burly and tattooed

"Shiv" - human agent of the Central Trading Company

Carver Logos - NTC Trade Representative

Lady Timerra - Daughter of one of the NTC founders

Gore-rock - Leader of the Ogre raiders

- Idoia, the local judge. A very strong woman, that even in her late fifties is feared around.

- Katho, the owner of the Rising Sun Inn. There's a reason why the bar has a good reputation. Nobody messes with him...

Appleseed — Special — “Male” — Unborn — Sentinel: Named for the wood used to make him and the odd quirk that whenever he gets wet he smells strongly of cidar.

Ivy Cryingfox — Special — Female — Human, Jaano — Sheriff: Looks to be in her late 30s to early 40s, former sunchaser who decided to settle in Talon Rock with her young daughter, both of whom may be identified by tribal facial/neck tattoos.

Vinay aka The Sniveling Weasel: Vinay has always dreamed of being wealthy and always has some sort of get rich scheme going on, sometimes legal, often not.  His somewhat whiny voice and sniveling mannerism make it hard for people to take him seriously (think Benny from The Mummy).  While this has made it hard for Vinay to get rich, it has also kept him out of a surprising amount of trouble.  Over the years he has collected a wide array of strange items, most of which are completely useless, but some few may hold potential for great wealth and power, if only he had any clue what they were.

Marcus: Marcus is a laborer in Talon Rock.  In the past he has worked with both the mining and logging companies and he has helped build many of the dwellings in Talon Rock.  He is well respected in town, but he is somewhat reserved himself.  No one knows why he prefers to sit alone, but some whisper that he lost his whole family years ago and now he is just getting by until Death comes for him, too.  What most people don't know is that Marcus is also a cultist.
