Did anyone else here ever play the old Victory Games 007 game? I just ran across my old copy, and still have fond memories....

I ran a few scenarios, but the only time I got to play I was roped into being the bad guy rather than a real PC - the GM wanted to have someone else playing the big villain.

I am afraid that the PCs did not succeed - my villain went in for public humiliation with lots of publicity rather than settling for gun battles.

I played it and loved it. I preferred it to Top Secret, but not to Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes. The published scenarios were some of the best I've ever read.

I never liked top secret. I did like bond, but we never played it for very long for some reason. Despite the fact that I consider myself an espionage fan more than sf or supers, we've managed to avoid really playing any espionage games up until now. I'm not sure why, but we rarely got past the second scenario.
Considering the AVERAGE lifespan of my game is 5-6 YEARS..that is a bit odd for us.

As you'd imagine, I've got, almost, the entire line (just missing one or two scenario box sets). Overall I prefer Top Secret/S.I. but JB007 is still an excellent game (someone (Uncle Bear I think) is working on an "OSRIC" style version as well). More details on Modus Operandi.

I never owned the game but I loved the skill mechanic. I stole it (modestly remixed with MegaTraveller's) for my homebrew game.

That was the second RPG I bought for myself after Star Frontiers. Played it and kept it for ages. I liked Top Secret/S.I. and the different directions they were taking it (Agent 13, Commando, F.R.E.E. America). Kind of like what Crafty Games is doing now.

Hmmm... maybe that's why I like this system.

My Commando book got stolen in college, but oddly enough I still look for it every once in a while in some old boxes.

Love the James Bond RPG. Our first foray into it was - get this - a time-travel adaptation of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was unbelievably cool.

Chris Klug, the game's designer, is a really nice guy. I met him at Comic-Con last year. He's working on the Stargate Worlds MMO now.

Hmm, you can still find it pretty cheap out there. I guess that Victory must have printed fifty gazillion of them. Smiley

Converting the adventures to Spycraft might be a bit of work, since the two systems do not have a heck of a lot in common. Spirit wise they have a lot in common. Chase scenes man, chase scenes!

I'd imagine it was probably one of the highest print runs of its time, given the popularity of the license. Not quite as big as Star Wars, but still.

We took quite a few queues from it, yeah. Its spirit was strong and worth honoring.

PM me if you're looking for 007 RPG stuff... I haven't used mine in ages so could be tempted to sell it off to a good home...

Robert Kern, developer of the game, recently (well, February 2007) posted on Modus Operandi (here) in response to a question about the game. I think he was a bit in awe of the esteem in which the game is still held Smiley

Hmmm, in some ways the Spycraft gear system owes more to the Bond RPG's Q & Co. than to the 'Cash & Carry' D&D equipment.

For some reason I feel an urge to run this old dinosaur again. Smiley

It does at that.
