Why is it that dwarves are always portrayed as being Scottish?

I like the idea of the Arabian dwarves but definitely see the merit in Russian and Slavic dwarves (coal mines anyone?) ... Maori voodoo pechs? ... Hmm, I would definitely to see Nordic Pechs as well.

Or Polish salt mining dwarfs. The Wieliczka salt mines are nothing short of incredible. Smiley (And there are sculptures of dwarfs in several areas of the mines.) ) These are not the dark and terrible salt mines where prisoners are dropped, never to be seen again, but well made, and in some places downright beautiful. Should I ever venture to Poland it is the place I am most likely to visit.

One of the kids in my short Pathfinder campaign (already two scenarios past where I planned to end it) has decided that her dwarf paladin sounds like Gabby Hayes (complete with Profession [Prospector] and a mule for her mount). My question is where the heck did a ten year old hear of Gabby Hayes?!!
