Andrey goes over the available data. It seemed pretty straightforward.
No sign of hostiles, yet a very experienced team is overdue to check in to SGC.
A number of scenarios danced through her head… they’re either lost, dead or captured.
She didn’t like the last one, especially the way everyone else in the group was taking the mission a little too lightly for her taste.
“So, for all we know that there may be a small battalion of Re’tu just waiting for us to drop by?” Andrey asked. “Aren’t we just a bit premature to think that this is a simple snatch and grab?”

The Gunny leans forward to the table again.  "From the MALP Telemetry, is the entire planet desert as we see here? Or will we be running into other terrain?  If desert is all we'll see, dress light people, you'll not want to overheat and try and grab some extra liquids.  I think a quick desert survival rundown will be in order after we get done here."

Alex looks up from his notes, "General Landry, do we know how far the UAV traveled before we lost it, and in which direction?"

Quote from: GC
Check the briefing - the UAV went down within sight of something at least ten to 15 miles to the south-west of the gate.

Also, there's no way to tell how typical of a planetary biosphere the area around a gate is, only that it was important when ever the gates were installed.

Also, you're not going after the Sg-1 from the show, you're going after a team from the SG-1 division.

"I'll let you science types do the investigating - all I know is we lost a team out there, so I'm packing a big gun - and I think we've got explosives covered should we need to blast our way into... whatever it is."

Kyran is beginning to get frustrated with all this chatter.  He thinks to himself, we've been given the brief, lets get going for christs sake.

John sits contemplating strategy while everyone else talks back and forth. He quickly realizes he is easily the oldest here. Ah, kids. Once everyone is quieted, he says a little speech:

“I'm Major Resler. I know some of you are new to Cheyenne so welcome to your crash course. Soldiers, watch the civilians. Civilians, if you can’t shoot a gun, do us all a favor and don’t pick now to start learning. When we get on the other side, keep your eyes open and do your jobs. You will respect me, the SG program, and most importantly each other, despite what you may feel personally. Anyone who can’t handle that can head back upstairs to the dorms, cause you’re dead weight to me.”

He pauses for a moment.

“If there is nothing further, and if the General has nothing more to add, I suggest you get your gear prepped and meet me in the gate room in fifteen.”

He waits patiently for the General to dismiss them.

"Fine, I can review the radiation information once we're on site. Truth to tell, it'll be better if I can take some readings of my own. I'll pick up a few toys from the lab too, some things we've been working on that could use some field testing," Elena said, starting to make a mental checklist of the gear she would take.

The Gunny looks down the table at the General and the Major,  "Major, if you don't mind I still have a final set of questions."   Picking up the MALP Telemetry, "What information did the SG1 team have before they left?  Was the MALP Telemetry all they had, or did they know about the structure to the southwest."

Taking heed of the Major's words, Kyran excuses himself and heads to the gateroom to wait for the others.

S C E N E   O N E

It's night when you exit the gate - or at least that's your best guess based on the gloom lurking outside the light shed by the wormhole. The ground around the gate itself is course, shale-like and almost universally grey, gradually becoming sand-like and coloured more familiarly. There’s no sign of any vegetation - the stuff that had appeared to be grass on the video feed turns out to be a brownish mineral deposit of some unknown kind. In fact, the only thing green is the omni-present mist shrouding everything and cutting visibility down to maybe ten metres at best. Without any noticeable breeze to stir it, that mist hangs cold and dissolute in the air, reducing the countryside to a series of low rounded shapes that disappear into the miasma. And it’s cold, too. Uncomfortably cold.

As was to be expected, there's no sign of the M.A.L.P anywhere near by.

Kyran takes up position near the gate (looking for some sort of cover), pistol up and scanning around.

As does Hutch, see if the civilians want to take any initial tests before moving on.

I want to check the ground samples,  this mineral whatever it is, and look for signs for which way the first group might have gone.
