If Kandra are not a playable PC race then the terrorists have won.

Well, their whole issue with Mistborn might be a problem, especially since OreSur implies it's not the Lord Ruler or Vin specifically.

Pffft.  Details...

Seriously - I will offer belts of handwavium to Kandra PCs that block the of any you-know-whos using you-know-what.

That said: Feruchemists!  How awesome?  How simple?  How perfectly designed to take advantage of a PC's natural min-maxing instincts?

I agree in principle, although I withhold my final opinion until I've either I've read the third book or we see some stuff on Brandon's site discussing the Contract and Kandra society. Smiley Depending on how that works out, even if they don't make good PC, they're definitely Personal Lieutenant fodder.

Quite possibly it's a simple as a Talent (Terrisman), a feat or feat chain (Feruchemist) and some skills in Craft: Metalmind and some guidelines about it since I think most of the storing would be downtime.

Note that to me all os this discussion at the moment is mere spitballing.

It's also fun to do.

Far more fun, in fact, that what I'm being paid to do right now.

Spitballing, indeed...

CAVEAT:  I've never read the books, and don't have current plans to.

I'm surprised everyone has ignored the possibility of it being feat-driven.  Feat-driven opens up the possibility of using Expert Classes to focus on the Mistling (sp?) (one metal) or Mistborn (diversity), and you still can create your "[Character Class] w/ Magic" builds.

Personally, if I couldn't wait for Crafty to write the book, I'd look at Alex's notes for his Not Star Wars campaign.  It looks like both Mistborn and Star Wars would have the 'take the superpowers or suck' design issue, and the Star Wars mod looked designed to nip that in the bud.

Funny how? Funny like a clown? Like I'm here for your amusement? Funny like this is the stuff the Crafty team has been spouting back and forth for the past 6 months?

The more I think about it, it's going to be classes. I think Crafty is going to make this a stand alone product, as opposed to a setting book like WoF or 10K Bullets. Everybody is going to want to sell as many copies of this as possible, Sanderson will want many people to play his RPG, Crafty wants new people and Mistborn fans introduced to their products. If people have to buy SC 2.0 and a copy of the setting sales could lag. I remember people complaining about having to buy the d20 Modern main book when they just wanted to play d20 Future.

I think humorous in how closely this matches some of the thought processes going on in Alex's brain.

It just goes to show how well crafted the system is and how contagious the Crafty design philosophy is. Wink

I like it when the game designers don't have me shaking my head and going "wtf were they thinking."

As far asi know/remember (been out for a few weeks) all setting books will be stand alone books, thanks to Mastercraft (powered by mastercraft). 10KB, Farthest Star, and of course Mistborn.

By the way, great news. i think i will take a look to the first book, and see what's ahead. only problem... farthest star, making honor to the name, seem even farther now...

I don't think they're going to reprint all the main classes in 10KB. I know it will have Thug, Thief, and Lawman. I expect it will be more like WoF and not a stand alone product. But /shrug

Anyway, and getting back on topic, the more I think about it, the more I think Mistborn, Mistling and Keeper should be classes. Mistborn and Mistling should probably also be Specialties to represent house trained characters. Noble Blood and Terrisman Blood should be available as first level only feats.

I'm debating in my mind if the three caster classes should be base or expert classes. Base classes would make the game feel more like a traditional fantasy game and certainly will allow players to be magical out of the box, but somehow I think expert classes might be more appropriate from a simulation perspective.
