So when we meet Kelsier at the start of the first book, he is about 12 rogue/5 Mistborn?  And over the course of the first Vin goes from 1-15 Mistborn?

Ham would be an 8 Soldier with the pewter burning feat in there somewhere?

Kelsier is more probably a Sage before his snap, and Vin... I'd be tempted to say she's a Special NPC more then a PC, but pure Mistborn works there. Ham is a Pewterarm with the either the forthcoming Fighter specialty or the Bodyguard one and an interest in philosophy.

Special NPC?  I don't really think so, though I can't rule it out.

As for Kelsier, Are Sages able to pick a few ranks in sneak and such?  He definitely got himself into the Lord Ruler's castle before he snapped.

I totally agree with the philosophy interest for Ham.  Perhaps even a rank or two in Profession:  Philosopher.  But for class I would go with Soldier or Thug.

Clubs doesn't have many class levels, but he does have plenty of ranks in Profession for his wood working shop.  Tactics too.

What of Sazed?  I would put Feruchemistry down as a specialty, and Keeper as an Expert class that he has probably maxed out.

Vin not being a PC or full NPC mainly comes from:

Sage is the Pointman equivalent, so Blend and Stealth are potential class skills.

Pewterarm is a class. Ham's entire style (in and out of combat) involves being a Pewterarm. Allomancy (Mistborn or one of the eight Mistlings) and Ferchemistry (Keeper) should be classes, not feat chains or specialties. All of the 'casters' in the books are largely defined by their abilities. Ham isn't a Soldier who burns pewter, he's a Pewterarm who does soldiery things because that's what Pewterarms powers lend themselves to. There's no examples or allusions of them doing anything else but beating things up (and the other stuff it lets them do) once they're conscious of their abilities.

Ham's a Thug. They even call pewter burning allomancers as Thugs in world. C'mon, how is this hard?

Point on the bit under the spoiler, but up until then?  Is that some penultimate Mistborn thing that no one else has reached, or is it a trick of the author?

I'm still not convinced that most Allomantic metals should have a base class, or even an expert class.  Breeze seems a faceman for than anything else.

It occurs to me, that while this is all sort of a mental exercise, that it might be more effective to work the Allomantic sub-system out before determining the best way to let characters use it.

Edit: Discussion of Allomancy spoilerized.

Jeeze Krensky, for people who haven't finished book two that last post is full of spoilers  Tongue. I suppose not more so than the wikipedia article on Allomancy though...

As for Breeze, I always thought of him as an Advocate more than a Faceman. Hell, Kell wears disguses more often than Breeze...

Sorry. It's kind of hard to discuss this stuff even in a general way without spoilers.  Embarrassed

If, as a metal exercise for bored fans, people (myself included) want to try and hack out a SC/MC Allomancy sub-system we probably want split system discussion/speculation off into a separate thread marked as all spoiler, all the time.

Ok, the spoilerific thread is open.  Now a not so spoilerish question:  What about a Mistling who uses Atium?

Well, the books more or less say that Mistlings only get to use one of the base eight, but there might be some question about that in light of:

This, however, might be a similar issue to the reasons no one knew about:

I think it's less said that Mistlings only can use the base eight and more than no one has ever gotten Atium who wasn't a known Mistborn.  And done in the backstory of chargen aside, how do we model snapping?

A subplot "reward" is a feat or the opening of a feat tree?

The completion of the subplot grants the option to take the feat tree. Subplots give up XP, not feats....
