I've built up a smallish pool of potential benefits to use when building the standard 7-point Origins for Fantasy Craft (an array of options that will no doubt expand in the settings and other Mastercraft books). This version is me pursuing the Fencer archetype with that set of tools. Going on five years now since 2.0 was written, there's been a few opportunities to examine the point values of some of the individual pieces and weight them a little more fairly. 2.0 origins should work fine alongside Fantasy Craft origins in most cases (especially if you are porting to a 2.0 game), but I think Fantasy Craft will have fewer Origins that are kind of duds in low-level campaigns. There are much fiewer benefits that take 12-20 levels to fully mature.

I like how the Origin bonuses all seem to have names aka "Attribute Training:"  Makes it easier to create new ones by picking from the provided Origin options.

This is Interesting:
"Called Shot: You gain the Called Shot trick (see page XX)"  Are all tricks going to be purchased with proficiencies now, like in Practice Makes Perfect?  More streamlined rule, I like that.  Cant wait to find out Smiley

And this is very new, and also very interesting, unless I failed my notice check (very possible):
"Commissioned: You may purchase Military Renown for 40 Reputation per rank (see page XX)"

Very expensive to buy Military rank it seams.  This got my brain imagining all sorts of fun perks for commissioned characters, like having vessels or a lieutenant/squad/company at your command, also, giving orders to lower ranks.  Maybe I am just imagining too much.

My wallet is open, please give me FC!

I'm all for adding transparency to the system, and I think naming the benefits helps by making it easier to compare them.  Now, lets compare this to the 2.0 Fencer from OotS: Classic Fantasy and make some ponderous speculations!  Cheesy

Fencer
You’ve made a name for yourself with footwork and swordplay.

Bonus Feat: Fencing Basics
Decisive: You gain a +5 bonus with Initiative.

It seems in FantasyCraft, benefits that normally increased with your career level are now front loaded.  Less math, easy to hack convert to 2.0.  I'm on board.

Quote
Edged Proficiency: You gain the Edged proficiency.
Fast: Your Speed increases by 10 ft.
Parry: You gain the Parry trick (see page XX).

I expected the the Edged forte to go after the Archer errata, but it's interesting to see that tricks cost less than a flat +1 bonus to your attack check.  Groovy.  I am slightly confused by him loosing the permanent possession (gear system incompatibilities?), but gaining another 5 ft. of movement so he can "pay" for it.  Or maybe it's all part of getting the trick now.  Huh?

Lets see -

• [1.0 - standard] Bonus Feat: Fencing Basics.
• [2.0] Decisive: You gain a +5 bonus to initiative rolls.
• [1.0] Edged Proficiency: You gain the Edged weapon proficiency.
• [2.0] Fast: Your Speed increases by 10 ft.
• [1.0] Parry: You gain the Parry trick.

vs.

• [1.0 - standard] Bonus Feat: Fencing Basics.
• [1.5] You gain the Edged weapon proficiency and forte.
• [1.0] Your Speed increases by 5 ft.
• [1.5] Your Possessions include 1 additional rapier and plastron. You also gain 2 additional upgrades which may only be applied to these items.
• [2.0] You gain a +1 insight bonus with Initiative checks. This bonus increases by an additional +1 at Career Levels 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20.

Looks like the main difference is removing the free gear which isn't a big plus in a cash-based environment, replacing it with the parry trick.

Both are official for their respective games.
