I've been participating in the Secret World beta this weekend, and I've found it interesting, interesting enough to put down a pre-order. Really liked the setting, hollow earth/agartha is pretty and Kingsport is very Lovecraftian, with an atmosphere of dread laying heavy on the area. The system's interesting even if I haven't fully gotten to grips with it yet, though I do like that equipment doesn't show on your character, so you're not running around like a colorblind circus clown most of the time. Anyone else played in the beta/thinking about playing when it goes live?

I've tested the Secret World over the weekend, and I too am considering pre-ordering.

I like the setting and I'm not a fan of horror in general.
The skill system is interesting. Though based on my beta experience I will trade my pistols (twin Lugers, had Nambus earlier) to an assault rifle. Have to think about my secondary, though the Chaos did work for me.

i've been playing in the beta for a while, I've mentioned it earlier in the thread. I will probably end up getting it b/c the setting really does it for me.

Walking Dead Episode 2 Launch Trailer: This one's somewhat spoilery - enough so that I think I shall selectively avoid stuff about upcoming episodes in the future.

I did finally get to play through the first episode a while back, and I loved it. It's everything they promised, and everything you'd expect and want out of a Walking Dead video game. Go play it. It's well worth your valuable time.

So.. I took the dive into the Secret World over the single day off I had... (Hooray July 4th!  ..for many more reasons than just me and a day off.. but.. I cheer anything that gives me a day off.)  And.. I must say.. I really dig it.  Templar.  Pistol / Swords.  Lots of DPS.  Little glass cannon-y right now though.

Anyone been playing Spec Op: The Line?  I'd heard of it before, but I'd basically written it off as "yet another generic modern shooter" (because there's so many that they kind of bland together).  However, after watching Yahtzee's review of it earlier today most of what he said piqued my interest.  So I figure I'd check here, and get more opinions.

8/10

Very original story and setting. I like it a lot.

Sounds good, I'll have to check it out.

Hitman: Absolution - Streets of Hope Playthrough.  Looking pretty amazing.  I love the way that objectives change based on dynamic events - hearing a phone call gives you another target to silence or eliminate someone who has seen you doing certain things.  I'm also a fan of their difficulty - Purist mode removes all hints and help from the game, and you just have to figure out how to do things yourself, sounds very cool to me.  Love the "Cool Guys don't look at explosions" moment at about 9 minutes, as well as the way it changes the mission.  The Point Shooting ability reminds me of Dead Eye mode in Read Dead Redemption, in a good way - as well as being a nice addition (allowing you to pull of those cinematic superspeed executions).  Very nice for a demo of a pre-beta build, after that video they have my money for sure.

Tomb Raider: The Final Hours #1.  Zachery Levi hosts a look behind the scenes of the final hours of Tomb Raiders development.  The first part focuses on the new mo-cap / voice actress behind Lara, Camilla Luddington.  It's an interesting vid, and well worth watching, but doesn't really give any new information about the game itself - it is very much a look behind the scenes.  Part 2, I understand, has Zach chatting with Rhianna Pratchett (the game's scribe) so I'm looking forward to it.

"Hatred, misery, and death" says Yahtzee.
Zounds.
So, ~500lbs of dog-urine stained rotten carpet (torn out, bundled up, and disposed of) later, I have monies for games.
What's good?
How's The Secret World holding up?

Remarkably good, all in all. The setting's refreshing, no dwarves/elves or pew-pew space magic. The quests are interesting too, split between your standard 'kill some dudes' quests, sabotage quests that are little to no fighting and mostly bypassing laser tripmines, dodging cameras and generally infiltrating areas that you're not supposed to be in, and last but not least, investigation quests. They are awesome, and generally require some ARG-type shit like going to a fake website and finding the bit of information you need, or something more exotic like like translating arabic/hebrew or converting morse code. They're proper brain teasers, likely to take ages to complete but damn if you don't feel like a bad-ass when you complete one. And many quests mix and match these types, like first you gotta shoot some dudes, then you gotta do some investigating on a site to find a password, then you gotta solve a small puzzle to finally finish the quest.

If you're looking for something that strays from the well-worn WoW path, The Secret World is an admirable effort. Hell, I liked it so much I shelled out for lifetime membership Smiley.

If you want to take a look for yourself before putting down cash, I've got a buddy key that gives you 24 hours access. It should be enough to do most of the first zone, Kingsmouth.

Actually, that'd be fantastic. I'm sort of leery about jumping $60 in right off. Diablo 3's been a disappointment; not so bad that I feel cheated, but I really wish I could make that money back.
Thanks much, PM me?

High Moon Studio's (War for Cybertron) are making a Deadpool game and it's totally Deadpool - it just feels right.  Even the official site has his style totally nailed.

There's only one way I can respond to it:
