perhaps, but they don't have as good tailors to make them look good while you are putting bullets into them.

The SS uniforms are hard to top, but some commies came up with some pretty snazzy uniforms.

The problem is though, that a red star doesn't scream evil the way the swastika does. Especially to people who weren't alive during the cold war.

Nazis are evergreen villians.

Nazis are evergreen villians.

That and the large influx of Russian and Easter-European emigrates across the U.S. takes some of the sinister out of the accent.
Nazis remain beautifully unambiguous in their evil and they come with the bonus of being far enough back in memory to make whatever mad plot that's simmering in the background plausible (or at least engaging). The FPS market's campaigns are choked by too many wanna-be Tom Clancy-alikes who blend into a disjointed haze of paranoia compared to Demagogue clones, stolen artifacts, towering war machines, and the odd slinky Aryan femme-fatale in a catsuit. Stolen WMDs blah blah -we want Nazi Illithid Mummies with Flamethrowers for arms!
Really, it is all about Style.

Total Digression:

I was reading through my Pocket SC2.0 last night, and it reminded me of that.
Every freakin' NATO 5.56 rifle is the same, with a few basic variations on accessories.
I realize why (NATO!), but it's still like "lolsaturationmuch?"
Squeeze Trigger, Give Boollet. 5.56mm Boollet all Boollet.
That's not a knock on Crafty, just the mentality that laughs when someone says "yeah, how about that 5.7 project? I think we're good on ARs for the time being."
I want a new MAC-10, dammit! More .45 CQB range SMGS!

All of NATO uses 5.56x45mm & 7.62x51mm in their small arms to simplify supply chains when the Russians came through the Fulda Gap.

And then in the early 80s we dropped M-1911 for the M-9, and dropped .45ACP out of the inventory.  Except not really.  .45ACP is still popular, and is coming back to the US military.

If I had a way, I would fix FN's P90 for .45ACP.

 Cheesy
.45ACP P90.
I'll take two!

Yeah, I always wonder about the swap to the M9 from the 1911.
In my intensely amateurish understanding the 1911 does pretty much everything except shoot farther better then the M9, and that the .45ACP is the superior round for actually Killing Stuff. But indeed I wonder, rather then know.

When the M9 was adopted, the US was the only NATO country not using a 9MM side arm, so standardization with the rest NATO.  Another would be double the ammo, 15 rnds vs 7 rnds.    At least that is what I can find as legitimate reasons searching the net.   The rest seems subjective as to whether the M9 was a better gun or safer compared to the 1911.

you also have to figure that a pistol is a side arm and not a primary weapon and the rounds weight half as much for the 9mm.
