i am optimistic about silent hill downpour. even though it does seem to be going the open world sandbox setup.

That looks awesome! Added to the list - when I have time to play again, anyway.

XCOM Gets its Rightful Strategy Game Sequel This Fall: Yeah baby!  Grin

In a press release sent out by 2K Games, Enemy Unknown is described as a re-imagined version of the original XCOM from 1993. The new game introduces "an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth" as players assume the role of XCOM commander, XCOM being the name of the secret paramilitary group tasked with protecting the planet "by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics."

Game Informer goes on to mention the game features destructible environments, a real-time strategic view, and turn-based combat. Much like in the old games, you'll still be fighting against an invading alien race.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, yo!

That... sounds rather cool, actually.

Though who wants to bet that the soldier's equipment on the cover is the starting equipment, and becomes obsolete rather quickly?

I finally played MGS4.
And if I ever meet Hideo Kojima, I'm going to smash him in the testicles.
And I won't stop until his outties are innies.

Anger. Anger doesn't even touch it. What utter fecal waste. What a series ruined. What a contempt for Japan inflamed.
What a fucking waste of time -I've never said that about a video game before, and I've spent hours on genuine garbage
This is just...so bad I think I'll just let my words fail.
But if I could, I'd hold MGS4 up as a tribute to to the kind fucking dismissive ignorance that needs to be enshrined, needs to be explored and dissected and analyised so that no one can do it again.
I don't think I've ever hated an object this much before. It's almost indescribable.

Actually, I gotta say this: I think I understand how Sword of Truth fans felt.
Like they'd been betrayed. Like all the good that came before was just shit on, ruined forever and tainted.
Like they'll never want to think about it again, because it makes them so sick to even remember feeling good about the entire experience.

Val, I rarely say this to anyone on the Internet, but, are you ok? Relax, it's just a video game, and not worth your hatred. The world goes on. It's not like the Red Sox lost the Superbowl or something. Wink

It's a fair thing to say; if everyone has a bugbear then mine are things like this.
Sports teams? Not my drama. I nod and smile, it's cool with me.
At work I'm the platypus trying to swim with the shoal: I don't have a cellular phone, nevermind any of the high-end 4G devices everyone else prizes and fawns over. Just the wrong kind of fish for that.

And you're right, I can see that.
But the pure, visceral reaction is so strong. It's staggering. It's been hours, and I'm still wound up.
God. It's not just that it's bad, but that it's effectively rotten. Clearly no expense was spared.
This wasn't the work of a single deranged ultra-auteur pounding out a manifesto amidst a pile of survivalist mags and 21 Signs The Rapture Is Coming in 2012.
This was Art meeting Science and creating a thing of pure malice and stupidity.
This is my Westboro Baptist Church -I hate those bastards as well, but in all candor it doesn't hit me where I live quite like this.

Thanks for speaking up, that's very decent of you. I'm sure this'll all pass somehow.
But....damn. It's just so WRONG.

Sports isn't really my bag either, though I hoped you might get a chuckle out of the fact that I mentioned a baseball team losing a football event. I understand the need to vent, I really do. I'd rather have you post raging diatribes here than keep it bottled up till you get to Kojima's office with a nine mil. Shocked
On the other hand, this level of stress and anger can literally cause health problems, so letting it go is important. You don't need ulcers.  Smiley

Talking 'bout the art of the new XCOM game.

I won't lie, I'm actually really liking this direction they are taking it.  Also, who here would kill for them to actually come out with miniatures from this game?  Maybe something for Spycraft Third, eh, eh?   Wink

Gah, IGN hasn't been working for me for the last month or so, keeps crashing my browsers, and it's happened on different computers, so I know it's not my end.  Maybe.  Anyone heard of problems on their end?

On topic, yes, that looks cool.  Dumb, but cool.
