Their Legacy System.. is pure fail.  WTF were they thinking on this one??

I wouldn't say pure fail.  Like the idea, but what they are proposing for an implementation I don't care for.

Okay.. I should have worded that better.  The implementation scheme I regard as pure fail.  I love the concept.. not the execution.  If it was like.. "You're all part of a Fate / Clan / Mafia".. fine.  But tying it to the surname.. so.. the sith warrior had fun with the human soldier and gave birth to the twi'lek smuggler???

...then someone's going to undergo a paternity test!
Sounds legit to me.  Wink

So they clarifed a couple things the last I saw.

It doesn't have to show as a last name. so something like this:

Kain
The Firewalker Legacy

Which to me is fine.
Also, sounds like the legacy is only for your characters on a server.  not across all servers, which again to me is fine, I'll put my Sith/empire characters on a different server.

But they were getting alot of negative feedback in the thread, odds are this changes soon.

Yeah.. I'd almost prefer sur names were separate from the Legacy.. only for logic in my brain.  I can understand it.. just.. sorta confuses me that it could be a surname.  (I'll still play the game and have it just as "The Koala Legacy".. just nit picking on it being a Sir name for 7 different races. lol)

Well, bynames were common until the 18th century, and still are used in some places in a "full" name.

Also, look at the Quarians in Mass Effect (because a real world example isn't coming t8 me). Their last name is their ship's name, which sounds sort of similar to having an organization as a last name.

There was a case in 18th Century England where a particular family line had reached its end point with no males to carry it on to the next generatin, so it was stipulated in the will that the family estate would pass on to some cousin or such, on the condition that he changed his surname to that of the estate's owners. Which he dutifully did.

98% of adoptions in Japan are of adults.  Usually men, who gain an inheritance in return for changing their name to that of a family without heirs.

If it doesn't change from the current design, I'm just going to look at it like some sort of clan or something.  Having different races as members, or even as someone serving a family legacy but not a direct relation.

So, does this "clan" thing make it easier to pass gear around between characters or something?

P.S.  This is a banner week for koala t-shirts:

Because Koalas rock!

And.. from what they've announced, it'll act like reward system for having alts.  If you've ever played WoW.. think like the Guild Perks they added awhile ago.. but.. for just your characters.

I will need a lot less encouragement to run alts than I did in WoW, this is just icing on the cake.

Yeah... I was leery about running Republic alts.. only because I'm notoriously addicted to manipulating auction houses and jumping sides requires alot of logistical application to get enough credits from one side to another to continue my addiction.. but the Legacy system might just give me enough shove to run both sides of a server.
