ME3: Looks incredible!  That's a very unfinished beta and already looks amazing.  I only skimmed the info because I want to avoid too many spoilers, but I'm looking forward to every part of it - also the classes continued evolution in the threequel looks neat (though I'm not a fan of those Shooter Mode, Story Mode and RPG mode options - they just look bad).
I'm quite okay with this separation.  It allows more people to enjoy the game the way they most prefer.  (I'll be rolling RPG mode.)

Admittedly, I'm ok with letting people play how they want (imagine that!).  I just dread there being an Achievement tied to Shooter Mode since I'm an obsessive complusive completionist.  If I wanted to play a Shooter I'd have bought CoD, BF3, or Halo: Anniversary - ME doesn't exactly have the best shooter pedigree.  Not a knock against the game and ME2 was a better shooter then ME1, but still the not reason I bought it (or likely many other people).

I'm just annoyed at the industry's (especially Bioware) need to make everything into a shooter or hack and slash. Bethesda did OK (not good, but OK) with the Fallout games since your characters skill still effects accuracy, but I miss menu based combat.

See I miss me some good FPS.  My first major games (not counting my Atari 2600) were Rise of the Triad, Wolfenstien 3D, Doom, Quake, Tribes, etc...  Its for this reason, I suck at Halo and what not on an Xbox.  Give me the ole WASD and I"m a happy fragger.

Actually, what I really miss is a good space combat sim. Dark Alliance was ok, but Elite was never really my thing.

That and a good tactical RPG, ala FF Tactics. One without moe panderings that is.

Space sims were my second favs,  X-wing, Tie-Fighter, Freespace(I and II), Descent, Wing Commander series(Privateer II especially).   Nothing in my mind has come close...

There is this one game I have, Silent Storm... man I've sunk sooo many days into that game.  I sort of wish that it got better sequels than it did.  And that those sequels actually made it stateside as more than a novelty.   Sad

It's like we're cut from the same cloth. I'm a horrible Achievement whore, but I don't even try a lot of them anymore - the really tricky shooter ones among them, but also anything labeled "hard," "hardcore," or even "mildly difficult." I don't get to spend a lot of time on my X-Box. I can't waste it training for one trick shot or, really, trudging through anything that isn't inherently fun.

I miss menu based combat.

Amen to that!

I think it's there to allow them to implement heavier customisation than what was in ME2 - having an option of circumventing some customisation and choices is a prerequisite for having them.

No way are they having achievements tied to the modes. Multiplayer achievements are confirmed, OTOH. Time to buy some Gold, I guess.

I have 100 % completion/Platinum on three games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Deus Ex:Human Revolution. Wink

DCU online went free to play a few days ago. I've been checking it out and I'm having fun with a MMO that isn't a fantasy genre one. I'm waiting on Star Trek to hit free to play and I saw one on steam called crimecraft bleedout. Anyone know anything about that one?

DCU went f2p???  wow....   guess I'll check that one out now.  I use to play CoH/CoV a lot.  I was curious, I just didn't want to buy another MMO that I probably wouldn't be with very long with SWTOR  getting closer.

I steadfastly ignore achievements, and play games as I want to - in fact I find the things popping up in some games to be intensely annoying.
But then computer game-wise I prefer single-player, story based games, and don't feel like I'm competing with any body.

Yeah, I signed up for that last night -- holy crap it's going to be a time sink. I'm a little disappointed that you're kinda stuck with rather pneumatic builds, but otherwise it's pretty fun -- and Oracle is a lynchpin character.

That's good to hear.  Luckily, I already have gold - my sister makes me buy it so I can play Halo with her and my nephew, so at least I don't have to go out of my way to grab new things.  When it hits, if anyone needs a team mate, I'm up for it.

I'm so anal retentive that I recently started a new profile on my xbox when my last gold membership ran out, just so I wouldn't have heaps unfinished games in my list.  For every 100% below, there's at least 2-3 that I borrowed, or played at a mates house that has maybe 10%.

Old Profile: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption*, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas*, Lego Star Wars: TCS, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2*, Borderlands, Dragon Age 2*, Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Oblivion, Smackdown vs Raw 2009, Fable 2* (+ Pub Games), Lost Odysey*, Enchanted Arms.

Current Profile: Oblivion.
I wonder if I can get the last few I need for ME and ME2 before Skyrim hits?

* = Original 1000pts only.  Usually from before DLC came out.
