Is anyone else hoping there will be another driving game like SimCar that let you import your SimCity files and drive around your town?

Good to see I'm not alone.  Now, how gruesomely complicated is it to do any but the simplest driving game based on an imported city?

I will neither confirm nor deny extensive and capricious use of the monolith tool in SimEarth.

I have regularly wanted to fiddle with Civilization games and then run a game with just computers:  Sit back and watch the planet change.  It seems like a reasonable way to have a single sentient species world built for you.

The real question now is will it be a HD update (which are getting kinda common these days - Shadow of the Colossus, Beyond Good and Evil, Jet Set Radio, etc) or a new game (hopefully something that can stand up to the original 2.5 games - so not Dark Alliance)?

The Sim City shots are tasty, and I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been another driving game like SimCar, especially for The Sims - surely people would jump on the ability to drive their Sim around their little village thingie.  I can think of a way to make it work really easily (and with a good driving game - not something super simple).

Finally, Dragon's Dogma is getting a demo in a "couple of weeks" - which is good news in my book.  I'm definitely looking forward to the full game - I just hope the demo isn't strictly easy mode and showcases some of the challenge in the game (as well as some of the stylish and epic fights).

A little follow up - the demo features two character classes, each with their own encounters. If you choose the Fighter (a melee specialist) then you will take part in a prologue quest set before the game’s main narrative, in which you must battle through tunnels before taking on a Chimera. If you pick the Strider class (specialising in bows and daggers) you’ll fight a Griffin in plains surrounding the capital of Gransys.  You get to fully design the character with the creation tool, and can also import these characters into the main game (which has 9 classes).  Still no date, but it'll be "before the May release".  I'm guessing the two different demo areas paly to the classes strengths (or is perhaps like the Origin portion of Dragon Age: Origins).

Finally, BioShock Infinite will be out on October 19th (16th in US).  I quite want it.

I will neither confirm nor deny extensive and capricious use of the monolith tool in SimEarth.

My original AI project was to make basically this (but with fantasy options).  My course coordinator called me an idiot for being entirely too overambitious.  Either way I totally get where you're coming from.

Go big or go home?  For the Civ one, it shouldn't be too bad to just run 14 AIs, right?  The only thing you're doing is pulling out the human.

Throwing in magic and other species would be a whole extra level of difficult.

The Mongols were a function of their time and geography.  Could a similar thing happen?  Yes.  How likely?  Not very, IMO.  Someone else will have to stand in for the French.

The Mongols were also a function of culture, bad diplomacy by the Byzantines, and one man's ambition and talent.

Not particularly likely anymore, but still possible in a broad sense. I think, barring global catastrophy we're not likey to see a military conquror like Temujin or Alexander again.

Back on topic, Binary Domain is worth a look. The story's nothing massively new, but it's well done and deeper then Gears or Modern Warfare and it's a fun game. The quicktime events can be annoying though.

I think his problem was that I wanted to try write like a dozen different routines that were complex enough to actually come up with interesting and different results based on entirely too many variables, all in under 13 weeks... Go big or go home indeed.

Agreed - I grabbed the demo and though it's a damn short demo, it is totally gorgeous and totally smooth to play.  I didn't like the way it kept trying to get you to use voice commands (via Kinnect I guess?) for the squad members, but that's a small thing - still good fun and challenging on the hardest difficulty.  The only thing that stopped me getting the full game is it's release date - if it came out a month earlier I would have grabbed it, as it is I just have too much to play (ME3 is in a week and I paid for Witcher 2 today, so I'll have it on 17th April - though I'm considering calling them to change my money over to the "Dark Edition", it looks pretty pimptastic).

And now for the most amazing news ever: Stan Lee will be a playable character in The Amazing Spiderman.  Sure he'll be wildly overpowered, but that's still pretty epic.

The campaign isn't that long, but if you're a completionist you'll probably have to play through it several times to get full trust for everyone. You have to be a total, incompetant asshole to drive your squadmates into low or no trust though. The boss fights are crazy though, and the game is gorgous and the ending is setup for a sequal, but it doesn't need one as long as you wait through the credits.

The voice commands are tricky, and it uses a headset, so it's not as slick as the ME3 Kinect one. I didn't try using the Kinect in chat mode so I don't know if that would improve things. They can be turned off though, although it limits what commands you can issue.
