Sports isn't really my bag either, though I hoped you might get a chuckle out of the fact that I mentioned a baseball team losing a football event. I understand the need to vent, I really do. I'd rather have you post raging diatribes here than keep it bottled up till you get to Kojima's office with a nine mil. Shocked
On the other hand, this level of stress and anger can literally cause health problems, so letting it go is important. You don't need ulcers.  Smiley

It's over. I'm done.
The actual playing-the-game bits were really good. I liked the simplified CQC mechanics and the loss of hip-firing. I liked the octo-camo suit and the many substitute heads idea. Hideo Kojima certainly made a decisively excellent play platform.
The rest I'll just try and forget about -oh, and I ranked Eagle. I can live with that.

For those rare birds who're both reading this and who haven't played Metal Gear Solid 4: it's a solid 7 of 10. The actual gameplay is well-tuned and carefully refined, the broad selection of firearms is satisfying, the enemy AI is passable, and the many maps allow for numerous strategies and approaches to passing through.
Just avoid the plot. Really avoid the commentary on human nature.

So, the XCOM FPS is delayed into 2013 now (from Gameinformer).  Guess it's just the TBS for XCOM fans now (though most did declare the FPS as "Not a real XCOM game!" and "Ruined forever", so I guess most aren't that upset at the delay...).

Gettysburg looks like it has the potential to be cool, here's hoping.  The right blend between the two gametypes will be very hard to achieve, stopping one from being almost entirely pointless - if FPS needs to be effective enough to warrant using it (and not seeing the whole battlefield during that time), but not so effective that you just juggernaut through the scenarios with a possessed soldier wielding a suitably large gun/moustache combination.

Since I know there are a few fans of the old game Syndicate on here, I thought I'd pass this along:

Syndicate coming to GOG on Jan 19.

XCOM IS however getting a true to feel sequel from Firaxis.  (I'm sorta excited about that!)

to me the biggest thing gettysburg has going for it is that it is free to play. that in my opinion gives it a ton of leeway.

Yup!  That's what I was refering to (TBS = Turn Based Strategy).  I have high hopes, just from what I've seen (plus Firaxis are good at that kind of game).

What is this "Gettysburg" that you are speaking about.

Ah, I missed that link before and when I went back looking for the reference it wasn't apparently obvious that 1167606p1.html
 was for Gettysburg.

That does look kind of interesting.

Has it been mentioned yet that Star Trek Online went free to play this week? Haven't had time for a proper sit down & play, but character creation and ship design were a fun enough exercise for me.
