Not really asking for a preview or anything, just curious how much the Edgemaster has changed from it's 1.0 incarnation, like if it got the combine-the-best-parts-of-similar-classes treatment inventor and faceman got or something.

My group is almost fixated on melee combat.  Tongue

Let me look.

Swordplay - about the same.
Blade Dance - completely rescripted to be more stylish. And a new ability called Carve dropped in at level 1 to let you dish out the pain while doing all kinds of crazy stuff.
Parry Basics/Mastery - jetisoned in favor of the scary-scary Display of Arms.
Bonus Feat - Dumped the 4 bonus feats to make room for class specific goodies.
1,000 Blades - yes, your name is still inigo Montoya. And you are still right handed Smiley.
Nobody's Fool - Simplified, improved, compacted, and renamed.
Deadly Blow - added steak sauce but otherwise still the end o' the world if you land this thing.
Effortless Cut - Cleaner and simplified.

...Oh, and they get Master's Touch I as per Martial Artist.

So, is this the right class for a Kill Bill inspired game?

Cause I've been thinking about one.  Cool

Just remember the Ninja is not a fighter - he's a thief, a spy, and a killer. If the other guy gets to swing at you at all, something has gone wrong. Low base attack bonus progression says it all.

But oh, that first round of combat is gonna be a doozy... Combined with the sheer "What the Hell??!?" factor from some of the places you can get into and you will be manufaturing bodies - just in limited quantities.

Exactly, I want a Tenchu-ish ninja. For those who didn't play any yet, stealth kills are everything. If you're seen, you have a problem. 1 on 1 it's not as big, you can manage to drop them. But from 2 on it's getting hard, especially without your ninja tools. Ususally the best strategy there is disappear again, stealth kill them on the 2nd try. That's the ninja I want. Smiley

That's exactly the kind of ninja I would want too - though the one I have in mind would have a 'Hitman' twist, using disguises as much as black infiltration suits.

"Me? I am just a plain, simple man - nobody you would notice."

Since we are already talking about the ninja not being a fighter, I take my chance to tickle out some more sweet sweet preview info. Cheesy Will the ninja have a high vitality point die or a low one? Seeing as he's not supposed to take on his enemies head on, a low one seems more logical.

That'll probably annoy my "ninja's are cool and powerful" player - though as a matter of fact he considers all Eastern type things as far to cool. samurai, Ninja, Martial Arts etc - in his mind all must be more powerful than equivilent wester options.

Yeah, the "asskicking" ninja variant seems more of a martial artist with a few intruder levels thrown in.

Heh. I always turn to the Faceman as my first choice for "assassin" builds. Good at getting in to high value targets. Even better at getting away with it.

Oh, skill monster. Definitely. Vitality is for people who get in fights. You might also check the LSpy MRD. The entry requirements are quite... suggestive.

Looking back at the 1st edition Ninja as a starting point~

Backstab - Awesome then. Awesome now.
Like a Whisper - Renamed and punched up to be a triple skill advanced skill chain.
Ambusher - Awesome then. Awesome now. Only now you don't have to wait until level 7 to have it all.
Ki Sense - The heart of the Tenchu-goodness lives on, with new sleek, sexy, 2.0 styling.
Sneak Attack - Duh. Ninja.
Special Ability - Yeah, they were cool and all, but floating Terran feats are just plain better.
Ninja Master - this is just sooo not up to 2.0 gamebreaker levels anymore. It's more like a halfway marker for real ninjas Wink. For a gamebreaker you can respect, you'd need something like the Stingray's ghost walk... cranked up to about 11.3!

And the new Ninjutsu class ability is a thing of beauty to behold. One of my favorites in the entire book.

An Intruder/Ninja or Intruder/Faceman/Ninja is sounding like it could be a good build
