Why couldn't they bring the Joker back?

Obviously they can't have the same actor, but the character has been crafted too brilliantly to simply ignore now. I'd be disappointed if they didn't at least make an attempt to restore the Joker. I'll grant that no one could top Heath's performance, but he does leave a lot for someone to work with.

Honestly even if Mr. Ledger were still alive and well, I wouldn't want to see more Joker. It's way, way too easy to get locked in a suicide pact with Bataman and his chief nemesis and end up ignoring the rest of the pantheon. Enjoy it for what it is - an astounding performance - and move on to the next course in the feast.

Riddler would be best severed as almost a straight up serial killer toying with the Bat and the GCPD, although a friend of mine is holding out for Edward Nygma to be a profiler brought in to help catch the Batman who... looses it.

As for Ms Kyle, well, let's pretend that film didn't happen. As for the character in a Nolan film, despite the Year One vibe and the current version of the character, I don't think a prostitute/dominatrix will go over well, so possibly the best solution would be for her to just show up and run as a Robin Hood type thief and femme fatal, while something else is happening.

There was a fairly interesting documentary about Batman (mainly Nolan's version) on the History channel recently. They studied the psychology behind Batman and each of his common enemies. They gave some hints as to how the other big bads could be worked into the movies, even the Penguin (painting him as the ultimate bureaucrat, not just a guy who looks like a penguin with a penchant for umbrellas).

I would like to see Catwoman done well again, perhaps in the same movie as The Joker, but more in the background until later in the movie. Heck, you could even have her inspired by the costumed hijinks of Batman, but with a less moral outlook

Riddler could be good, in a noir horror sorta way.  Leaves clues to people he's about to kill before he kills them... and.. just re-work the costume.   Maybe he's tattooed with ?'s everywhere... and only has one eye.  LOL.  As for Catwoman, I dunno.. after the "Catwoman" movie.. I shudder at the reference...

What Catwoman movie? I only remember the superb Burton take...

You know.. the one where the French director didn't think his french name sound french enough.. so he made an even more atrocious french sounding moniker so he sounded more french?  You know... the guy who was also involved in the worst Aliens film to date?  (Number 4.)  You must remember this film!  It's the one with Sharon Stone, Hally Berry, you know.. as she transforms into a cat and learns how to shed???

Oh, c'mon!  I know you've seen this.  You know.. Ripley, who died, is now cloned by her fingernail clipping, and is thus able to make out with Aliens, bleed some form of Hot Sauce and save Earth from a ship that is hurtling towards earth threatening to turn mankind into beer battered crunchy snacks for the Alien.  That help?  Or.. you know.. the part where they gave the Alien both boy and girl parts, but then digitally air brushed them out post-production?  Well, that Air brush master?  He made Cat Woman!  And, I mean, c'mon, if you can air-brush girl and boy parts off an alien, you can make Cat Woman!

I gotta admit, that sounds pretty bad. Was that a film school script or something? We all know how these things get started...

I don't know what you guys are complaining about... Obviously, you've never watched "Catwoman" with the sound off and only pay attention when Halle Berry was running, crawling and sliding around in that faux leather.

I could watch those scenes at least once a week.

If she does show up... I hope it's as a nuisance character. Bats trying to track down a cat burgler and then stumbles upon something else and has to deal with that and not run off and make out with a girl that purrs... I know that would be a tough decision for me: Save the world... sex with a girl that purrs...

Personally, I hope that the next antagonist would be Scarface with Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro supplying the voice. Maybe just maybe Nolan will take that step to put Batman and perhaps some other superheroes inside the same universe. It's worked well in the last to Marvel movies.

Best exchange from a comic (Bats talking to Spawn)...

Bats: If there's any indication... I think you're dumber than Clark.
Spawn: Who's Clark.
Bats: Nevermind.
