One of my absolute favourite toons when I was a kid was Galtar and the Golden Lance because it was a genuine fantasy world with strange creatures and such that didn't try and kludge up some sort of weird post-apoc Earth setting or drop someone from Earth into the setting (which isn't to say such things are bad -- I loved me my Blackstar and Masters of the Universe and such, but at the time the idea of something essentially divorved from Earth as a setting was rare)

I may stop trying to play homage, and just run a game set in Ivalice.

probably ffta2 ivalice, rather than ffxii ivalice... but still..

Hell yes, there are chocobos! They are right in the normal mount list. I did everything but say they were yellow Roll Eyes.

Are those the war-raptors? I didn't actually read the description, so I thought they were dinosaurs Tongue That's what happens when you spend too much time in Eberron.

Yup. I actually thought they were more like Ruhks before I read the description, but that's probably because I already saw Velociraptor under the Dinosaur description...

Privateer Press finally put their Iron Kingdoms stuff up as PDFs!

Along with Freeport, I consider it one of the best candidates for FC adaptation among 3e OGL settings:

Apparantly they're also working on their own system for Iron Kingdoms RPG, but I think their release schedule for RPG stuff makes Crafty look timely (probably excluding 10K Bullets)

I used to play Mage Knight, many years ago before WizKids ruined it. The thing I was drawn to the most was the world, and I think Fantasy Craft would work well for it and its variety of creatures.

However! I am actually more interested in playing a campaign set in Oz (Gregory Maguire's re imagining of it) at the moment with this ruleset.

A friend of mine is running a game set in the Forgotten Realms using FC... Sooner or later I plan on running a Ravnica (from Magic: The Gathering) style game using FC, with Spellbound and potentially Ten Thousand Bullets sprinkled in (depending on how much of it is tech dependent, and how much can work in a fantasy setting).

Being the hardened animeniac I am, with the release of FantasyCraft I'm wondering how to do a Slayers game. There was a d20 Slayers game that the late, lamented GoO released that had some interesting adaptations to magic. I'm wondering what it would cost to translate some of the tropes to FC (hugely destructive spells and player characters tough enough to withstand them, etc.)

One thing I especially would want to see in an FC game is the Golden Dragons of Slayers, powerful beings who are also able to take on human form in order to interact with people if they so choose (mainly because they can't speak human languages as dragons).

Other series that might survive FC adaption include Scrapped Princess (what do you do if your very existence signals the end of the world?), Lodoss Wars (which was actually based on one of its creators' RPG campaigns) and Saiyuki ("Journey to the West with Bishies", a series in which a group of humans and demons tries to restore peace between the two.)

Forcelia (Lodoss, Crystania and Rune Soldier) should be relatively simple. Grassrunners are Pech, there's a few interpretations of half-elves on the boards, although it's been too long since I watched Heroic Knight to remember if they're more appropriate as a separate species talent or as a human only feat.

Scrapped Princess is probably playable straight, as long as you are keeping close to canon (ie, no PC Peacemakers or D-Knights). Not sure if the abilities of the assassin guild are better as a feat chain, or just animal partner, but that's trivial. I would, for simplicity's sake, assume all the PCs are Guardians, even if they never encounter Pacifica. Setting it after the series would not be as interesting, just because we don't have a good handle on the what's outside the sealed world, and it's strongly indicated that magic goes away.

Slayers, well, you're probably best running the magic straight and calling it massively destructive to scenery an whatnot. Slayers wasn't my show, are the Golden dragons 'player characters' or NPCs?

Yes. The leader of the Old World Gold Dragons, Milgasia, was an NPC who had the access the PC Party needed to the Ultimate Source of Information About The Universe. His Power level was on the order of "don't even think about taking him on". In the next "season", the Gold Dragon Filia, who was from the New World (the portion of the world that the Old World civilizations had had no access to for millennia) was a PC -- as Gold Dragons go she was very young, inexperienced, and naive, and she wasn't quite overwhelming in an admittedly very high-level party. We're talking about level 28 or 29 here for much of the group.

Dark*Matter also seems like a decent setting for Spycraft - the PDF of the Alternity setting book sells for just under five bucks.

Mind telling me where this is available?  I've been searching for a pdf of the original Dark Matter for awhile now.
