Yeah, saw the trailer.  Really hasn't done anything for me, though.

I'm not exactly happy to see him secretly under wraps by the US Government given the whole point of Klaatu's arrival in the original was that it was public

It's too bad they couldn't stick to the original more with it.....

Considering that Klaatu is killed immediately after disembarking the ship on the original, I'm not sure how they could.

I'm just curious to see if the filmakers keep to the Christ parallels.

Considering the change in times and the story from the original movie, I doubt it.

Klaatu is merely injured upon arrival. He doesn't die until the final reel and even then he's not down for long.

I don't think they could. Jesus "Woah" Christ just doesn't sound right.

He was able to pull it off in the Matrix. However, if not, then it won't be nearly as good. I wrote a paper in high school discussing the Parallelisms between Christ and King Arthur (that was fun). Ever since, I find some more attempts in modern lit and films.

I always saw more Buddha (not quite sure which one though) in Neo then Jesus (other then the resurrection thing).

He did take on more of a Buddha persona in the later films, but I was refering to "The Matrix" itself. (The prophecy of his coming, the willingness of self-sacrifice, his resurrection, the betrayal, his "baptism", his own Mary Magdelene, his presentation to the temple elders (in this case The Oracle.) Even at the end of the "Matrix Revolutions" there was a prophecy that he'll return.)

Oddly enough, some historians draw a lot of parallels between the teachings of Christ and the teachings of Buddha.

Not really that odd, it's almost assured that he would have encountered Buddhists or Greco-Buddhists. The Roman Empire and especially the Central Asian part of it was lousy with them.

It's odd for Christians to even consider that. If it's not in the Bible they tend to take a fingers-in-the-ears-eyes-shut-while-screaming approach to history.
