Agreed with alot already posted - Gladiator [Great score, but nothing else], No Country for Old Men, There Will be Blood, Royal Tennenbaums, Titanic [and that song, god awful].

I'll add to the pile - Fantastic 4 [both], Spiderman [all 3], X3, Superman Returns, The 2nd and 3rd Matrix films.

I'm also gonna go out on a limb here and put up Star Trek [all of it] - I just never "got it".

ET.

I hate that movie with the passion of at least 244 fiery suns.

And that was before the craptastic make-over.

I have to agree with Ratatouille. I've watched, and enjoyed, all of the other Pixar movies (apart from Toy Story 2, but I don't count that), but this one just didn't do anything for me. I didn't think too much of Cars, but it was entertaining.

I feel proud that I have still not seen any more than a trailer's worth of Titanic. It's kinda of a shame becuase I really like some of the actors who appear in the film. Oh, and if I have to listen to that bloody Celine Dion song again I'll lapse into a homicidal rampage.

This thread is way more fun.

It's easier to gripe. With 90-99% of everything being crap, identifying the worthy gems lost in the flood is much more challenging. But, as a certain famous curmudgeon said, "If you don't have anything nice to say... come sit over here next to me!" Wink

I saw it when it came out, and there was just nothing to it but a giant goddam ball of fluff which was hailed as a some utter(ly retarded) triumph of the spirt. I probably only have about 71 suns worth of hate for the mere images/so-called plot of the movie. The other motes of celestial fury are for the unmitigated stupidity of my fellow humans the movie revealed Cheesy.

Minority Report was largely ass, with a precious handful of isolated frames where some ok special effects were on display.

You, sir, are a heretic for your lack of adoration for The Mummy Grin. In addition to being exactly what a Saturaday Afternoon Pulp movie should look like (and a damn good example of how that sort of gaming should unfold), that film showed magnificent restraint in placing the worst of the violence off screen, making it remarkably family-friendly fare. I for one am eager to shell out for the third one this summer.

I should clarify. At the time I saw the Mummy, I was looking forward to something ridiculously different than what was on offer. I ripped that movie to shreds when I saw the premiere. I was a real ass about it.

Time and further viewing have allowed me to get past my own personal garbage regarding this movie, but it is still a fact that I thought it was tripe on first viewing.

I enjoyed Mummy 2 in the spirit it was offered and am looking forward to Jade Emperor.

I have a confession. I don't really get the Titanic hate. Cameron executed the shit out of that movie. The story was just super sappy. I can't really hate on Celine. I remember her from back in Quebec before she made it massive.

Anything staring Tom Cruise.   I shudder to think why at some point in my life(I must have been stupid) that I liked anything he did.   Now, when I go back to view a movie of his, I'm left with the thought of.....   why the Heck am I watching this trash....

but that's me.

I have to applaud folks, though, for starting with the positive thread. It exhibits the remarkable vibe on this board that we didn't immediately jump to the negative. I'm proud of all of you.

Gladiator holds a special place in my heart, but only because it's the one single movie I have ever seen fully weaponized...

I lived for several years with my friends Owen and Evan (Owen's tireless dedication to research and accuracy are a big part of what made the original Modern Arms Guide the accomplishment that is is). Owen and Evan are brothers (Evan the junior by about 2 years) and like many brothers, they tussle incessantly.

Evan is an extremely disciplined person. He goes to bed at a regular time, gets up at a regular time, works out on a regular schedule etc. Methodical.

Owen is a little more fast and loose. His schedule shifts a bit each day and he makes it all up on the weekends with a big nap. He (still) has a tragically long commute and ussually left the house around 6 AM.

Owen also has a weakness...

Once he starts watching a movie, he has to see it through to the end.

...Basically for about 8 months, once or twice a week Evan would put in Gladiator at around 10:00 PM, watch it for 15-25 minues, and go to bed.

Leaving Owen sitting there nailed to the couch until sometime after midnight, unable to escape before his somewhat absurdly early morning comute arrived.

It was an act of calculated cruelty so perfectly tailored to its victim that I still get little shivers every time I am exposed to the instrument of Evan's evil genius. For me, the measurement of Gladiator is not a matter of quality or suck, Good or Evil. All that matters is that it is so wonderfully, hideously longCool

I actually really liked Titanic, though I'm a sucker for period romances (romances of all kinds, really, assuming they're well done, and I agree with Gypsy - one thing no one can complain about is Titanic's quality).

The Mummy made me smile for a week but Mummy 2 left me cold (except for the zombie monkeys - they were sixteen shades of awesome).

The coolest part of the Mummy (and 2) was you could see the die rolls and hear the table talk. Smiley

Speaking of "How did this get an Oscar?": Titanic.

Just...Titanic.

Yeah.

Cameron's a favorite of mine, but that movie is, to me, his worst. Today, that movie stands as an example of how getting more popular/acclaimed doesn't make you better.

well, I'm probably about to alienate alot of people.
First off, Rushmore is in my top 10 favorite movies ever. Life Aquatic is way up there too. Napoleon Dynamite I like, but it's not in my favorites list either.

THE
Movie that I, a 43 year old geek, never got was...(gasp) Highlander. Myself and the group of people I saw it with laughed it almost as much as we laughed at Cat People (which we saw in the same month or so back in the 80's) I left the whole movie thinking it was really dumb..(why do they explode when they die kinda stuff)..Then I look around and discover it's this major cult thing. I still don't get it. I've rewatched it and decided I liked the flashbacks, but anything in the present..feh..

Past that I could in fact list 100 or so comedies, but those are more a mixed bag, and not as popular in geek circles anyway. (Toilet humor as Pat put's it)...(Includes 'classics' like Animal House and Caddyshack, as well as the more recent drek)

300 (too familiar with the history, and really, really do not like the Spartans....)
Name of the Rose (They killed off Inquisitor Gui! Do not kill off historic characters who died of old age!)
King Arthur (Guinevere is either wearing way too little, or way too much, depending... and Lancelot was added by a French playwright who wanted Arthur's best knight to be French, he should not have been in the film!)
Conan (Oh ye gods and little fishes! Couldn't someone have read the stories before making that movie?)
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Again - if you are doing a movie based on books read the goldarn books! Bad continuity, bad literary research, bad historic research, even bad geography - this movie had it all!)
