Seriously Pat, the amount of the movie your talking about is over so fast by the time you hit fast forward its over already. Don't damn yourself to DVD over a little vomit.

Oh, and the scene Psion mentions is forecasted well enough that you can avoid it by taking a bathroom break of your own, if you wish.

Actually, the bit Psion describes sounds fine - nothing is actually shown. I watched half an hour of panels and a bunch of scenes from the movie at Comic-Con last year and the only thing I remember is the vomit. It just kills humor dead for me.

And Argonnite, you won't get me that easily. If there's any of the things I described in that link it's not worth the click. Sorry.

Like has been said, that particular scene is less than a minute long. By the time you no its coming, reach for the remote, and hit FF, it's over.

Ah, that scene.

Yeah, I could have lived without that. They could have done the same scene a lot less gratuitously and it would have worked better.

Oh.  That.  Yeah, I forgot about that bit.  Fortunately, it was easy to push from my memory, as it was only about five seconds long.  It could definitely have been done without, but didn't kill the movie for me.  YMMV.

It's YouTube, how bad can it be?  Actually the title is How to Stop a Kitten Fight.

From what Pat's been saying, the end of the clip would certainly not be up his alley. Sure, it's just a kitten, but it's by no means subtle. If the video was all but the last 2-3 seconds, it wouldn't be so bad.

Well pat, It's good to know i'm no the only geek in the world that has to leave the room when The Meaning of Life is playing. I mostly agree with you. I certainly agree that such scenes are never really funny, though I've a stronger stomach for it now and can get past it, there was a time in my life when I could not, and I heartily support your stand on the issue.

I certainly wish there was less of it and I too avoid most comedy's for that reason.
I'll probably see that movie, though I do wish i could avoid that scene.

Out of curiosity, is this specific to humor? I can think of a few valid uses -- specifically not in the humor genre -- for showing incontinence or a post-retching string of vomit down the corner of a mouth. Loss of control of the body can be particularly chilling, especially in Western cultures.

Mostly, yeah. I'm an old school horror fan, for instance, and have zero issue with gore or even gross depictions, so long as they're appropriate for the story. But it's not funny - not in the slightest - and I resent that the studios think it is, or that people are convincing them it is, or whatever.

Oddly, I used to have a stronger stomach for it, or I was more tolerant of it, but that's less the case now.

Put me down for a hearty recommendation. It's few missteps are more than made up for by casting and style home runs. The only theatre movies that I"ve had more fun at this year are Iron Man and Hulk. Way more laughs than I expected. The fart jokes are far between.

One of my players went yesterday - and is of the opinion that my major problem with the movie is that I remember the old T.V. show too well.

I am not so sure, I remember being annoyed with Steve Carrell all too often, but he could be right.

I will say that it was not nearly as bad as Wild, Wild West, nor did I feel the urge to seek out Carrel and do something dreadful like I did with Will Smith.

Has anyone else wasted precious hours from their lives watching The Nude Bomb, even once? (Trust me, once is once too many....)

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* Oh - one positive note: Alan Arkin was great as Control!

Being a huge fan of the Tv series, I thought it would be great.  I was wrong. [Massive understatement there]

That may be the case in you remembering "Get Smart" too well. As I had the same problem with "Wild Wild West" I've seen the movie once and if I could go back in time and get those few hours back, I would.

James West wasn't a freaking gunslinger!

I have no problems with the actors (and the yummy actress Selma) and I thought they all did rather well with the material at hand, but it was such a departure from the original series and it really didn't include very many elements that made the show so good in the first place.
