If you haven't seen this movie yet I have four words for you: Go see it now.

It's freaking hilarious. Plus, it actually has a halfway decent plot that's more than just a vehicle for the comedy. And it has an all star cast (its got Terrance Stamp in it for cripes sake!).

Best spy related movie of the year so far, IMO.

Just make sure to never underestimate the element of supr-AHH!

I saw it. Not very good at all, I am afraid - reminding me of Adam Sandler in far too many, not at all funny, ways. Sad

I will say that it was better than the first Get Smart movie (The Nude Bomb) but that is not exactly high praise (The Nude Bomb was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Worse even than Wild, Wild West).

I just saw it, and personally I really liked it.  I only remember one bit that could be classified as potty humor, and it's pretty low-key.  Most of it is solid Steve Carrell humor, which I like.  Of course, Agent 99 certainly didn't hurt things...

Amen to that.  I'll be seeing it as soon as it finally comes out down here.

I enjoyed it a lot.

I particularly like that overall Max is not stupid or inept - he's just very green in his new role as field agent. He comports himself pretty well throughout. There is indeed a single 4-second gag involving a barf bag, but its actually an entirely isolated lapse in what is otherwise a charming movie.

I loved the dance scene and the line of the movie for me was in the training range where after taking a shot that makes you wince and cheer all at once, his pronouncement 'I am not proud of what I just did.' That left me smiling for quite some time Cheesy.

I find fart jokes silly and generally unnecessary but they're not the primary issue for me. The kind of potty humor that pretty much universally keeps me away from theatrical release comedies is the blatantly gross. We're talking the spawn of Dumb and Dumber here. IMNSHO there is precisely zero value in, nor any reason for us to actually see excrement, vomit, urine, and the like, let alone watch someone consume it, be doused in it, fall in it, or otherwise endure it. It's not funny, it's vile. It's offensive enough that it's actually turned me off of an entire genre of cinema and that fact saddens me deeply. Not just because I love humor but because there's clearly a market for it — and what that says about the human species is beyond tragic.

I waited pretty much all my life for a Get Smart movie and they finally made it. They cast it beautifully and they appear to have captured the soul of the material. It's a cosmic shame that I'll have to wait to watch it on the small screen, remote in hand so I can fast-forward through the disgusting bits.

I generally share the perspective that most fart jokes are the province of pre-teen boys.

That said, the bit I think is being talked about isn't fart jokes, and I found it modestly funny.  Cool

Seriously Pat, the amount of the movie your talking about is over so fast by the time you hit fast forward its over already. Don't damn yourself to DVD over a little vomit.

Oh, and the scene Psion mentions is forecasted well enough that you can avoid it by taking a bathroom break of your own, if you wish.

Anyway, I caught the AM matinee this morning. It wasn't super-funny, but it was funny. It's your basic over-the-top "prevent the bomb by the secret organization" type thriller wrapped in the classic deadpan delivery jokes and sight gags that marked the series it was based on.

Depicting the "war room" intelligence committee as a bunch of smack-talking brawlers was a bonus bit of funny. Hiro from Heroes and the guy from the Capital One commercials (er, Masi Oka and Nate Torrence) are a funny pair of tech geeks with some cute bits.

Oh, and Anne Hathaway is hawt.

I do feel modestly robbed by marketing... two of the best sight gags were forecast in the ads.

Actually, the bit Psion describes sounds fine - nothing is actually shown. I watched half an hour of panels and a bunch of scenes from the movie at Comic-Con last year and the only thing I remember is the vomit. It just kills humor dead for me.

And Argonnite, you won't get me that easily. If there's any of the things I described in that link it's not worth the click. Sorry.

Out of curiosity, is this specific to humor? I can think of a few valid uses -- specifically not in the humor genre -- for showing incontinence or a post-retching string of vomit down the corner of a mouth. Loss of control of the body can be particularly chilling, especially in Western cultures.
