So if you want to play a lighter rules game in a espionage setting you will have to buy a non-espionage setting?

Seems fair since those of us who want to use the full rule set in a non espionage setting still have to pay for the lighter rules set in that setting.

I'm a tad torn.  This will be great for getting into the game, and I no longer face the daunting situation of explaining to a customer that have to buy the modern espionage RPG to play FantasyCraft.  It just seems that those of us hardline supporters will now be buying multiple copies of the core rules just to get the extra crunchy bits from the genre books.  At least with World on Fire, I could spring for the PDF and have the friendly local print shop make a hard copy of Chapter 4 to add to my Spycraft Binder of Doom.  Current logic leans towards this being a small price to pay for the improved possibilities for expansion.

Another question, won't Spycraft Henchman Edition be released?

I'm also curious.  IMO, I'm not sure if there's much point if we're instituitng a stripped-down MasterCraft engine to build setting books around, but a PDF would be a nice gateway drug tool.

I like this model actually.

Not everyone wants to buy a core generic book and a settings book that requires the core book.  This should attract new gamers who are just interested in a specific setting.

There are companies that go both ways and I think this is best.  A very good example is Savage Worlds.  Some of the settings require the core book while others are standalone.  For example, Rippers requires the core book to play whereas Solomon Kane is a standalone.

Of course Crafty hasn't seeked out to convert a popular property yet...

Submitted a scoop to enworld. Did my best to compress it to one paragraph.

I remember a few locals were pretty miffed that Fantasy Craft wouldn't be stand alone.

So that will imply a readjustment at the forums more MasterCraft friendly?

We might do a little juggling once the previews are up, but nothing too radical.

There are no plans to do a genre-neutral or setting-free Mastercraft release. Each of the books should work as a complete game including a setting. The mix of classes, feats, and even skills in a mastercraft book are guided by the needs of a single theme, so trying to do a universal book would end up being even more sprawling that the 2.0 core book.

Heheheh... We didn't say that. I suspect we'll have more to say about an espionage-oriented Mastercraft book in the future Wink...

Sounds like a very good idea - I have encountered folks who refuse to even try SpyCraft because it's 'just about spies'. This in spite of my telling them at every turn that it is an action game, not necessarily an espionage game. Not helped by the fact that my longest running campaign is steampunk espionage....   At least my current campaign is anything but espionage, or action for that matter... the players are proving very adept at finding alternate means.

Making Fantasy Craft stand alone also sounds like an excellent idea - it drops the introductory investment considerably, making it an easier entry into the system. I am very much looking forward to this. Smiley

He said the magic word "previews"  Grin

First example of getting some of the space back through editing is up over on the Fantasy Craft board.

Hmm, does this mean that 10kb will have base SC classes as well (FantasyCraft is less of an issue since it's got a lot of rebuilt classes anyway), presumably 10KB will drop some (not sure Hacker, Scientist, snoop etc fit) but will it include the Soldier, Intruder & so on?

Alex and I were just talking about this earlier today Cool. Ten-Thousand Bullets has always been the home for a couple of new base classes native to Empire City and life on the street (Fixer, Lawman, Thief, Thug). We'll likely fill that out with localized versions of a few classes seen in Spycraft 2.0 but only those essential to life in the big city (Faceman, Intruder, Sleuth, Wheelman). You could import a Soldier or Hacker from 2.0 easily enough for special occasions or players you trust to play something a bit different, but they aren't 'from around here'.
