Actually, the Ultimate Nick Fury character design was based on Jackson with his permission so he's the perfect choice.

And he's infinitely better then Hasselhoff.

You're right. I recall reading an article about how Ultimate Nick Fury resembled Jackson (I tried to find it there was a side-by-side pics), but there was a concerted effort to woo Will Smith to a Nick Fury project back in 2005.

Actually, Ultimate Fury was explicitly modeled on Sam Jackson, with the big man's full approval. One of the conditions was that he gets first whack at any movie treatment of the same. Therefore, Samuel L. Jackson in Iron Man and potentially every goddamn Avengers-related movie from here. Win-win, if you ask me - Marvel got themselves the one guy who can be as badass as Fury needs to be, Jackson got himself a steady gig, and we got Jackson.

Gatac has it right.  The Ultimate Fury was specifically modeled on Jackson.  Jackson's character in the XXX movies was also a tip of the hat to the Fury character.

So the electrical thing in his chest is keeping the bits of shrapnel from sliding in and shredding his heart.  When he comes back to the states, why not have them taken out.

Looking at the shrapnel we're shown in the cave, I'd say that the point behind the weapon is that the fletchets are deliberately too small to be removed without potentially causing more damage.

My big piece of Fridge Logic for the movie is how the hell Oby thinks that it's a good idea to leave the company name on the weapons he's illegally selling.

Why would you want a glowing chest piece?  At least hide it when you're in your armor.

The only thing I can think of is that there's heat dispation issues, though during the fight with Iron Monger Iseem to recall him discharging at least some of the unit's energy in order to rescue the family in the SUV.

Some nice uses of Chekov's Gun - I thought Stane was going to steal the old chest unit to power his suit/base a new unit off of when it was first introduced, but having Stane steal the new one instead was a reasonable enough move and establishes him as willing to, ahem, stain his hands.

I was surpried to see SHIELD so involved in things, having been under the impression tey were only mentioned in passing in the after-credits scene.

I wasn't too surprised that Stane took the one out of Tony's chest, but I really thought that Pepper was going to be the one to get to Tony just in time to save him since the scene earlier showed her learning how change out the generator.

Does it really make a difference? The weapons seem to be of a fairly unique design, so if they are recovered by US forces, it's going to be obvious that they're Stark Industry weapons. They were probably just reported stolen.

Yes, the photos caught him red handed, but it did seem a little sudden turn of events.  It's the kind of plot decision that seemed tailor made to the assumption that every fanboy watching the movie would already know he was the bad guy, so why bother hiding it.  Not knowing jack about Iron Man, it threw me for loop.

Well, there's also Jarvis, but the very fact that Jarvis is an AI rather than some queeny old buttler is meant to demonstrate that apart from Pepper and Rhodry, Tony really has no meaningful human contact with anyone else.

I'd say the thought never crossed Stane's mind as it's fairly clear that for all his panache, he pretty much relied on the Starks for any sort of creativity, even down to his brief stint as Iron Monger. The ultimate demonstration of that of course is the Icing Problem, which shows that he's simply made Tony's original armour bigger rather than better.

I also know relatively little about the Iron Man mythos, and it's only thanks to heroclix that I twigged Stane was a badguy when he says of himself to Tony that he's only an old iron monger. However, the little Stark Industries bio at the beginning of the film nicely paints the old trope of the regent who would be king, or at the very least being the power behind the throne.

Still, I would have liked Stane to have pointed out that Tony's unilateral decision to close the arms manufacturing part of the company is an amazingly dickish thing to do to all the workers and their families who need those jobs. Even though Tony thinks he's being moral by doing what he does, it'd show the difficulty of being moral versus the side effects on others of assuaging his own guilt (which was instead reduced to Pepper's little "I only have you too" moment.

In contrast, I would have liked a scene were Stane, though obviously in this for the wealth and the power, is shown in a more Hank Scorpio-like position of caring for the minions and such upon who his power depends.
