Did anyone watch the premiere of Burn Notice this week?

I'm, err, aquiring the episode at home at the moment, but I'm wondering if anyone State-side watched it and wanted to share their thoughts.

Anyone?

Bueller?

I should have it waiting on my Tivo for me this evening.  I'm cautiously hopeful.

I didn't watch all of it (I forgot that it was Thursday), but the bit I saw with Bruce Campbell was pretty good.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so, but I liked what I saw.

It became quote/inspiration fodder for today's game session. For example, when someone was sneaking into a place, someone offered "grab a yogurt... act confused."

Also, when 2 FBI officers were casing a house, the officers in the show became visual references for the FBI officers.

I enjoyed it start to finish.  I really like the main character, and Fiona is HAWT. Cheesy

I, too, have it on TiVo. Will post some thoughts when I get to it, though I notoriously watch TV out of sync with the rest of humanity (i.e. a week or two or more behind the curve), so it may be a bit. Maybe. Smiley

Smart writing, and very likable characters.  I'm required by international law to pay attention to anything featuring Gabrielle Anwar.

So you've seen The Librarian: King Soloman's Mines then? It's not as bad as it looks, really it isn't.

Honest.

So I watched the pilot last night and overall I liked it a lot.  The writing was good and the main character definitely comes across as a very competent tactical operative.  They even managed to give him some very human quirks without compromising that.  The only thing I didn't care for was the inclusion of the mother.  She's irritating, cliched, and so far adds very little to the show, at least in my opinion.  Fortunately, she's not bad enough to make me turn it off.

Be truthful now, is it good enough that I should fire up 'ye olde downloader' ? It sounds interesting, but I trust this board to give me the real scoop.

You definitely should fire up the downloadin' engine of your choice.  Burn Notice was a lot of fun.  Homemade silencers and bugs, a nice little chase through Nigeria, and Bruce Campbell, too.

And yeah, the mother's annoying, but that's kind of the point.  And given that this is an episodic show, it behooves the writers to include lots of hooks to hang their stories from.  Family irritations is one of those hooks.  It's an easy hook, and a bit of a tired one, but hey, it's TV.

Well worth the 90 minutes of your time (70-odd if you're tivo-ing out the ads).

Speaking as a non-American observer, I really digged the show. And not just because it's got a slightly grungy Bruce Campbell in it, either. The on-going narrative reminds me of The Dresden Files and Painkiller Jane, while the plot reminded me a little of Macgyver (duct tape FTW) just with more guns.

I especially liked when he taught the kid a few self defense moves, and the hilarity that ensued.

I'll be tuning in (the downloader) next week for sure!

Yeah, I agree, this is good stuff. I'll be keeping an eye on this in the future too.
