I have to say, the first thing that came to mind with the discussion of the interaction of priests, atheists and gods, was the Discworld universe.
Where the gods are directly powered by the belief of their followers and are as petty and capricious as the flocks they oversee. Where an atheist had better keep a lightning rod nearby at all times to avoid the frequent lightning strikes that follow him around.
And at the back of their minds, gods live in fear of being relegated back to the status of a "small god"

Yeah, SFA had this take on faith-based magic. For those keeping score, Crucible... doesn't. Wink

What you guys are doing here for divine magic, is utterly perfect for my needs, and all I need do to make it setting specific is remove the comment about conduits of Gods [Alter it to willpower driven, or invested in them by powerful outsiders].  The abilities they get come from the type of priest they are, or outsider they make a pact with [an evil, corrupt, strong willed person with the right NPC quals makes me quivver with anticipation, as my mastermind].

I'm generally of this same mind, which is why we call these "Devotions" rather than directly connecting them to gods. References to gods are just an easy shortcut (and work for most players' needs) but, for instance, the devotions of Epoch relate to ancestors, rather than gods (who are by their nature indifferent). The devotions of Cloak and Dagger are to pantheons and forces...and nobody necessarily believes in the gods anyway Smiley This system is perfectly fitting to anyone who has belief strong enough to affect change on the rest of the world.

Ooh, I've got one now.

Wands.
I've been thinking about how to do wands for a bit, and the best ideas I've come up with are skill check gadgets, a gadget that holds a known spell, and/or a reservoir of spell points.

Sweet.
That was my biggest worry about using it to run Eberron.
Now I can relax on that front and start beating my head against the D&D-flavored psionics conversion I'd need. Of course, I've always liked the D&D style of flashy fantasy psionics, so hopefully it'll be entertaining, at least. (Although psionics are easy to leave out in Eberron, so no pressure there)

On a related note I'd like to have some more rules on magic items, sorta... While part of me thinks magic should be unpredictable the larger part of me would prefer structure to items.

For instance all wands behave the same, all staves behave the same, all amulets behave the same.
At least in the presented core rules, if a GC then wants to go in and change things around that's fair enough, but for "core" I'd like a definate structure in place for what each type of item does.

D&D already does this to an extent, but has a tendancy to let designers muddle things up.

Keep in mind that wands, rods, and rings are all just housings, and we have to this point never felt the need to define functions of devices by their housings. I would expect this in FantasyCraft as well (not there yet, but still).

I was expecting nothing more than a few extra gadget picks to simulate the various differences between the clasic magic items.

Potion style: Single spell, single use, target must be self, useable by anyone
Wand style: Single spell, #use, useable by anyone who knows the spell

etc...

These could then be put into any housing.

Exactly. Keeping housings divorced from item type both makes items easier to use universally, and lets the GC better control how magic works in his campaign. Cheesy

Wish list wise: In the back of 2.0 it has examples of different play styles - I just would LOVE as many more of those as I can get my hands on - and from what I've read about your 8 settings, I'm probably getting this wish.

Yup. A fantasy genre capsule will be included with every setting. Smiley

There are, however, only six settings. Just for clarification.

Then how about EIGHT SETTINGS!  RAWR!!!!   Tongue

I'm pretty sure this one has already been covered, but details about how different factions form in fantasy settings (religious/cult, noble, guild, mercenary, scholastic/wizardly, etc.).

Also, a scalar that will allow the GM to manipulate the amount of magic in the setting.

Hmmm, Modular Monsters (TM) An easy way to modify the breath weapons, size, special qualities, etc. of critters on the fly. Makes chimera, chaos beaties, and unique dragons much easier.

Hey, been away for some time now due to a dysfunctional gaming group. Tossed it out recently. Smiley

Well, if this is a whish list for Fantasy Craft, let me see.. hmm...

First (and I might be alone on this one, I'm not sure): Taller elves Cheesy. They were great in Classic Fantasy Races, only, they were too short. I see elves as taller than humans on the average. I don't like the short, anorectic teenager-elves that appeared in D&D 3rd edition.

Second, I would love some detailed rules for crafting gear, magical and mundane. The scene in Return of the King where Narsil is reforged just gets me every time. It should be more than a few rolls and throwing a bunch of xp into it.

And the most important thing: A good setting! Can't stress that enough. Smiley

Other than that, I'm really looking forward to this.

Cheers,

Eirik

How about Magic Item Creation that doesn't suck. And doesn't cost XP. And doesn't require you to waste half a dozen feats to be a decent artificer. That's pretty much it...

Go reread Spellbound I and the Science skill. Smiley

Magic items are Gadgets made using the Magecraft focus of the Science skill, which uses the same rules as the Super-Science focus does.
