From Wikipedia:
Book pages are often printed on large sheets because of technical and financial considerations. Thus, a group of eight, sixteen, or thirty-two consecutive pages will be printed on a single sheet in such a way that when the sheet is mechanically folded and cut, the pages will be in the correct order for binding. Such a group is called a section or signature. Books printed in this manner will always have as many pages as a multiple of the large sheets they were printed on, such as a multiple of eight, sixteen, or thirty-two. As a result, these books will usually have pages left blank.

There are two things to look for to determine if you have a new printing.

First, look at the spine from above or below. The spine on the newer printing is curved, like a text book. The older printing is square. The new printing is also a proper hardbound book so, because of the number of pages, it has a few blank leaves in the back. The old printing is a cardboard article (it's a perfect bound book with a hard cover) that was run off a print on demand machine, so it has no blank leaves.
Thnx a million buddy.  I'm 99% sure I have the first run of the second printing of the book (I hope I said that right lol)  The spine is square, it feels a little flimsy as well.  As far as the blank pages, all I see is 2 blank pages, a blank white page in the front of the book and a blank white page in the back.  I don't think those are the blank pages you speak of.  So I will have to say I have the defective one Sad

Tell me this.  Dose the defective book have the all the errata fixes as well?  As long as it has all the errata fixes in it, I can wait till the pocket version comes out and buy that one, and just keep it around just encase my defective book starts to brake down.

As far as I know (and off the top of my head) there's no textual difference between the two printings. The earlier printing also has a piece of cardboard in the spine making it square, and is the same size as every other RPG hard cover I own, while the new printing is actually slightly smaller.

Also, to be pedantic, those are end papers, not leaves. A sheet of paper in a book is a leaf, each of it's sides is a page. End pages are part of the binding, and essentially attach the cover's boards to the text block.

If your copy starts to fail, contact Mongoose. They've been very good at making these things right.

First off - welcome to the boards, ChenSun! Always great to see new blood.

There is not textual difference between Second Printing v1 (perfectbound spine), Second Printing v2 (textbook spine) and Pocket Edition. So you're good there!

Krensky's got it right as well - if you ever have problems with your hardcover, contact Mongoose at sales@mongoosepublishing.com and they'll take care of you. Their customer service has been excellent in regards to replacing books with failed spines.

Glad to have you here!

When I asked and he looked it up he said something along the lines of: Whoa, it's sold out everywhere except for a few copies in the East distributor, I managed to snag one for you though.

Well that's nice to hear! Smiley

Be sure to stress to the store owner to reorder. They'll want to keep the core book in stock.
