That was almost aggressively mediocre in every way. Every attempt at suspense killed by the unbelievably frequent ad breaks, KITT barely shows off its gadgets beyond the self-repair and camouflage stuff, the bad guys look like chumps but somehow still manage to mess with everyone until the end, and there was no turbo boost. It's not just that's it not good (we can't expect that from a Knight Rider show), it's also not fun most of the time.

It didn't make me turn off in disgust, but if this gets picked up as regular, they'd better step up their game.

Well.. I was afraid I was going to be overly analytical of the show.  That's why I held back at first.  But, Gatac, right on the nail.  It was like I was watching one very long Ford Mustang Commercial.  And, I understand Ford is a major backer of Knight Rider, I can deal.  But, damn.  Give it some gadgets.  Give it.. I dunno... an EMP launcher?  The ability to disappear?  Something!  It talks and has nano-armor.  Great.. ...mmmmmooooorrrreeee...

I dunno. It fulfills the age-old classic formula...

An overwhelming...meh. Filled up time in between it's ads. In effect a perfect corporate tv show.

While I do not consider a fantastic piece of television programming, I did enjoy it.  The one thing I liked was that the four bad guys were, to a greater and lesser extant, given some personality.  They were not a bunch of nameless mooks.  I always enjoy movies where the bad guys get to have some banter.  Die Hard and The Marine spring to mind.

Bah...the car didn't have the voice of Micheal Medved (kinda what the original KITT sounds like to me, though I know it isn't), the new driver isn't as completely useless as David Hasselhoff (although he did get angsty useless toward the back end), KITT's creator has DoomBots, and there is an angry lesbian FBI agant available for backup (on the off chance you need someone shot in the crotch). What's not to like?

Yes, the commercial breaks were too long and too frequent. That's not really new to TV, and isn't really a reflection on the show.

Yes, they haven't shown a lot of the cool gadgets off yet...you were expecting them to what? Take the whole friggin' bag of goodies out in the pilot? They ONLY showed camo and friggin' NANO-ARMOR??? How jaded is that? This is not exclusively a show for people with 5+ gadgets per car that are changed up by the agency once a week. Aside from which the age of the Roger Moore Bond is dead. Come back to the happy place, where the show is about the characters.

And the car had character. Val Kilmer character, not annoying "40+ Jewish Guy Who Still Lives With His Mom" character (are you getting that I didn't like the original KITT voice?). The car has a conversation with a human character that reveals its depth as a thinking machine. Yeah. I know. The original KITT couldn't honestly have a conversation like that without someone thinking he was gay in the 80's. And besides, who's he gonna have a deep conversation with anyway? David Hasselhoff? Riiiiiiiiight.

The bad guys had character...almost likable character at times. I'd have had a lot of fun beating those guys up in a Spycraft adventure.

The new driver is an ex-Ranger, and actually comes off as competent with or without the car. The attempt to delve into his past left him a little on the depressive side for my taste, but he was past it by the time they dropped him and the car out the back of a plane at the end. I like the idea of a developed, skilled human character as the driver, rather than a driver who functions as another gadget for the car, allowing it to walk into buildings by proxy and do dialogged comedy. And the fight scenes (first with the mob mook and then with Henchman 1) were fun. I'll eat a lot of crap in a flick for a fun fight scene...I even watched all of Laser Mission. ^_^

The other Foundation characters look to be seeing some development, as well. A wuss mechanic who's an old friend of the driver and who makes eyes at the FBI agent he seems unaware is batting for the other team. A "I play by my own rules" FBI agent who seems to have a personal connection to this whole thing that hasn't really been explored yet and who seems to show no signs of the usual bookish personality we'd expect from a female FBI agent in this genre...and she seems to be as capable as the driver of collecting eye candy. The old guy has Doombots. He doesn't need character. He's got Doombots. It's like having multiple characters...^_^

My one real beef with the show? I'm not german, and I'm not that big on Micheal Knight/David Hasselhoff. And I'm really not big on crammed in cameos, which s what the funeral scene felt like. They should have waited a few episodes to actually have him show the first time, had him actually participate in the episode, and gotten him a suit that didn't add 50 pounds to his already old and chunky physique.

Anyway, that's the other side of the coin for you.

If I can find the person who originated the whole "Germans like Hasselhoff" meme, there'll be an extensive asskicking.

So, yeah. We don't love the Hoff. Not by a long shot.

Sydney Poitier plays the FBI agent.  That's Sidney Poitier's daughter for those interested.  I enjoyed her character thoroughly.  I will probably watch a series if they go ahead.

I'm only 15 minutes into the episode and so far the best parts are having Bruce Davidson and Val Kilmer involved. In fact, I wonder if they could just get rid of the rest of the cast and have Val Kilmer fighting crime would be a better move.

That said, it does sound like a lot of Val's lines have been recorded in a studio with no reference to how they will be included in the episode.

29 mins in: Would I be right in guessing that this is an NBC show? I say that because the casino the action is taking place in is The Montecito.

Yeah, I'm probably paying far too much attention to the small details Grin

It was a good way to kill two hours after the Sunday afternoon game.

Pros:  Sydney Poitier, a sense of continuity, and the car itself - I do so love the current generation Mustang.

Cons:  Nanotech uber alles!  Really, really could have done without the extra spoiler growing out of the trunklid.

My childhood wasn't molested, and should this become a series, it'll go on the DVR schedule.
