Honestly letting you use tricks across weapon types like that would probably lead to a lot of suspension of disbelief breaking things like Thread the Needle with a straight razor...

Oh, man. I can totally see that one Grin. You just swung on a guy using a straight razor, and at the and of the motion you've got your blade resting on the side of his neck and there is blood running down his chest. That dude is not moving one damn step until you let him (or he wins an opposed grapple check and ducks out without losing the rest of his blood supply).

10th level martial artist who knows his staves and chooses to use a straight razor = One Bad Muther.

or Hack! with a garrote or stuff like that.

Garrotes are usually part of grapple actions, while hack! goes with standard attcks, so not much to combine there.

The biggest thing that stood out for the Martial Artist isn't actually the game-breaker, though it's pretty damn cool in it's own right. For me, it was this version of Master's Touch.

Can you say One-Finger Spear Charge?

Seriously.

Bad. Ass.

Spend a full action, plus have room to run at a flat-footed character, suffering a -6 to hit to gain +7 threat range and +2 damage?

I'm down with that. It cost 3 feats and a tenth level class ability. Sounds like a martial arts master to me Smiley.

You can absolutely mix and match across weapon feats.

Quote
Master’s Touch I: At Level 10, you may add 1 additional trick from any melee or unarmed “Basics” or “Moves” feat to one of your actions (for a total of 2 tricks from any of these feats). You may use this ability to add an unarmed feat trick to a melee attack or vice versa, ignoring all requirements for the weapon type used.

In that case - ouch.

It was just that the way the last sentence of Master's Touch is worded right now, the subordinate clause about ignoring the weapon type seems to only apply to adding an unarmed trick to a melee attack and vice versa described just prior to that. It would be more clear - at least to me - if it said:

Quote
You may use this ability to add an unarmed feat trick to a melee attack or vice versa. You may ignore all requirements for the weapon type used when applying these additional tricks.

Ooh, I'll have reread the melee combat feats again with that in mind!

All the melee love recently has got my gears turning.

One thing I'm not clear on, though...  I understand that you can't combine two Supremacy tricks, but what about a Supremacy trick and a Basics/Moves trick?  The wording of the ability seems to imply that you can't do that, but I'm not certain.

Process runs something like this  Smiley.

1. Pick an action.
2. Add any 1 melee or unarmed feat trick I would normally be entitled to.
3. If Master's Touch I = True, add one trick appropriate to that action from a Basics or Moves feat I possess, ignoring melee/unarmed distinctions and weapon type requirements.
4. If Master's Touch II = True, add one trick appropriate to that action from a Basics or Moves feat I possess, ignoring melee/unarmed distinctions and weapon type requirements.

Any chance that we'll be seeing an Iconic/Demo character for a Martial Artist, like the ones already available for download? I'm planning on running an introductory game of Spycraft 2.0 at a club meeting in August using the demo/iconics as pregenerated characters, and I'd like to have a MA available as an option.

We'd love to get one up there but we're all a little focused on producing new product at the moment. If, however, any of you fine folks would care to put one together, we'll happily host it. Smiley
