OverNinja, could you please add gear calibers to your works? I like them a lot, but they're not quite useable like this.

Sure. I'll edit them ASAP.

EDIT: added gear calibers

I never used to think HK couldn't make an ugly gun until I looked up the 416. Makes the "grease gun" look like a work of art.

I actually find the 416's got a rather classic look.  But that might be the classic Colt back half.

I certainly prefer the 416 to the super-soaker Beretta earlier in this thread.   Grin

HK416

Heckler and Koch USA have taken Colt's basic M16 package and given it an upgrade. The weapon is now referred to by HK as the HK416. A range of improvements including full “Picatinny” forestock for attaching a range of weapons, lights, sights and rail attachments, and a stronger recoil system.

The weapon is currently used by the US Capitol Police CERT Team, having replaced their MP5/40s.

Assault Rifle Pick - Caliber III

HK416
5.56x45mm NATO   4d4   1-2/20   30M5 or 20M9   12   100 ft.   S/2h   CLS, NUL (3R, 1U)   7.3 lbs.   25/+1   2005   R$1,200

What about the HK417?  7.62x51 version of the HK416 basically.

Norwegian Army has ordered 8,200 HK416 units with Aimpoint sights, they will be replacing the AG-3 (H&K G-3).
They've also ordered 6,500 units of the MP7A1 to replace ageing MP5s and an unknown (to me) number of HK417s to snipers/designated marksmen.

Other weapons used by the Norwegian Army are C-7 (Canadian M16A2), H&K G36, MP5, HK21E (SAW; some units have suppressors), MSG90, USP.

US troops are using the HK416 at least in Iraq.

Aw, that's sad. It feels like the end of an era or something... It built character, lugging that thing around.

It's a good gun (have fired it, haven't lugged it around).

Yeah, the G3 was a great gun, but I'm liking the look of the HK417, especially with the long barrel for snipers.

Heh, I remember the first few weeks before we got to try it out on the shooting range... spending hours and hours each day taking it apart, studying each piece, learning it's every nook and cranny, it was mindnumbingly boring. And running around a mountain all day was a pain in the ass (and the neck, for that matter), until you learned a couple tricks it was heavy and cumbersome... but the first day on the firing range.... when it was done I almost felt like having a smoke and savouring the afterglow, and I'm no gunbunny. It was just all kinds of awesome.

HK417

The inevitable big brother to the HK416, the HK417 is chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO round. The HK417 is designed to be used as a designated marksman or sniper rifle rather than an assault rifle. Early prototypes featured a PSG1 style pistol grip and used G3 magazines (and thus lacked hold-open feature). Later models replaced the pistol grip with a more conventional one and introduced new polymer magazines (featuring a hold-open). The weapon also has the now standard “Picatinny” rails on all sides. Available in three barrel lengths 12-inch “Assaulter”, 16-inch “Recce” and 20-inch “Sniper”.

The weapon is used by the Norwegian Army (with a reported unit cost of 120,000 Norwegian Kroner or $21,000).

Norwegians graduated first female snipers for their army.

Aragathor: would you please put Calibers for your weapons.

Is there a system for calculating damage for various rounds (such as 9x30mm Grom)?
