Beretta Cx4 Storm

Lightweight, compact and accurate, the Cx4 Storm was designed with similar controls to the M92 pistol. MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny” top rail is standard, with side and bottom and fore-end rails optional. The optional rails allow for mounting at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. These will accept optics, tactical lights, lasers and vertical grips.  The Cx4 Storm carbine can utilize the same magazines as the Px4 Storm, 92/96 and 8000 Cougar series.

The assault rifle version is from the game Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and differs from the real world version by being chambered in the H&K’s 4.8x30mm round, having a threaded barrel and sporting MARPAT finish.

Beretta Px4 Storm

The Px4 Storm is the latest addition to Beretta’s line of semi-automatic pistols. The Px4 Storm is designed using most modern concepts in combat handguns, such as maximum flexibility, most modern polymer materials and most popular calibers. It is also a radical departure for previous Beretta designs. The Px4 Storm accepts magazines from the 92/96 and 8000-series of weapons and Px4 Storm magazines are compatible with the Cx4 Storm. There is also an underbarrel “Picatinny” rail.

The Beretta Px4 Storm SD (Special Duty) is designed to meet the specifications of the SOCOM (Special Operations COMmand).  It differs from the regular Px4 by having a longer threaded barrel and desert tan color.

The Px4 Storm is to be issued to the Canadian Border Services Agency starting in 2007

The version from the game Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and differs from the real world version by being chambered in the H&K’s 4.8x30mm round, having a threaded barrel and sporting MARPAT finish.

L4 SAW Machinegun - Caliber III

After the US forced the NATO members to accept the 7.62x51mm round as the standard round of the alliance, the BREN was rechambered for it and served as the L4 in the British forces until they adopted the 5.56x45mm round in the late 80's and 90's. The L4 is distinguished from the BREN by having straighter magazines (this is because the 7.62x51mm round is rimless). The L4 could accept the magazines of the L1A1 SLR and L4's magazines could be used with the L1A1 (though the springs were not designed to push the round upwards, and thus were not quite as reliable with the L1A1 [increase the Error range by +1 when using L4 magazines with the L1A1]).

Beretta Rx4 Storm

The Rx4 Storm special purpose rifle emphasizes individual performance with multiple stock configurations, ergonomic adjustment, and ambidextrous controls. Available in two models, a 12.5” barrel and a 16 inch barrel version. The 12.5 inch barrel is threaded and features a removable muzzle brake. The MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny” top rail is standard, with side and bottom and fore-end rails optional. The optional rails allow for mounting at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. The Rx4 Storm has nine attachment points for slings for multiple carry options.  It accepts standard M4, M16, and AR15 magazines.

The assault rifle version is from the game Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and differs from the real world version by being chambered in the 6.8x43mm Remington SPC round, being capable of automatic fire, having a threaded barrel and sporting MARPAT finish.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a fan of this new Beretta design.  It looks all chunky and toy-like.  The handgun's nice, but these carbines just don't grab me.

I disagree - I don't like the pistol, either. Cheesy

Seriously, the whole lot of them? Doesn't work for me.

I'm not seeing anything appealing about any of them - a gun's a gun to me.

I personally don't like the carbines either.

I'd rather use a short assault rifle for the jobs that the Cx is intended to perform (and I'll get burst and full-auto in addition to a more powerful round). And the Rx uses a really DELETED cartridge, I'll rather have a cartridge that's more likely to put the other guy down.

A better weapon than the Rx would be HK416 (if you have to have a 5.56mm), HK417, FN SCAR or RK 95.

The Px4 and Px4 SD look like they'd be decent pistols (first thing I'd do is to get +3 magazines for them).

Okay, okay!

Shitty.

I've heard too many bad stories and reports about the 5.56x45mm NATO round, so I'm not too keen about it. And out Defence Forces are considering (so I hear) changing to that round from out perfectly good 7.62x39mm round.

I'm not generally opposed to the 5.56 as a cartridge (it gets a bad rep, but it's actually pretty decent) - the Rx just doesn't look like a rifle so much as a pistol they just kept tacking stuff onto. Ditto for the Cx.

Heh, I was going to mention that I am not all that fond of Berettas to begin with - the only handguns I have ever had jam on me were both Berettas. Sad

Then again, I have fired a lot more black powder muzzle loaders than modern arms, so what do I know? Tongue

Huh, I guess you gotta be a gun bunny to really appreciate the design aestethics on weapons. I've only used one gun, but - and to quote spinningdice - a gun's a gun to me. As long as they can kill a man, the rest is just details.

EDIT: That said, I do appreciate the write-ups, there can never be too many tools in the toolbox Wink

HK416

Heckler and Koch USA have taken Colt's basic M16 package and given it an upgrade. The weapon is now referred to by HK as the HK416. A range of improvements including full “Picatinny” forestock for attaching a range of weapons, lights, sights and rail attachments, and a stronger recoil system.

The weapon is currently used by the US Capitol Police CERT Team, having replaced their MP5/40s.
The Norwegian Army has bought 8,200 HK416s to replace it's AG-3 rifles.
The Delta Force replaced it's M4s with HK416s in 2004 and the US Army is testing the weapon against M4, XM-8 and the FN SCAR in a Congress mandated "dust chamber test" in preparation for 2009 purchases (worth $375m).
