Why are commercial grade still cameras Cal III? Seems somewhat high to me as that puts it on level with grenades and most assault rifles. Further the professional grade is Cal V which puts it at level with oh lets say a supercomputer or diesel attack submarine. Based on the notion that caliber is sort of related to relative function what gives?

It's not.. I don't think that there's an adequate side-by-side comparison of the various tables. The Caliber is strictly based upon that specific gear category.

That said... getting your hands on a camera that the folks at National Geographic use (Cal V) would be about the same for a Snoop (at level 18) as a hacker to get his hands on a supercomputer... which he can't unless he takes the appropriate feats, etc.

If I remember tight, designers have said a few times that Gear caliber has almost everything to do with balance, and utilityand very little to do with availability and cost.

Oh yes I do understand that, however to get a camera at all is a caliber III pick. This seems sort of high seeing as how some sort of camera should be avalible to low level characters on low level missions without having to buy them outside the intel phase. I guess I would just like to hear why it's set so high.

And these forums are great because I might actually get a reason from the people who set up the system.
