Of course, a more straightforward option to have healing spells at level 1 is to have a PL who can cast them. You could then roleplay both this mystical healer who travels the land (your PL), and, say, their bodyguard (your PC). This could fit particularly nicely with either the Bloodsworn or the Gallant Expert classes from the adventurers companion...
EDIT: Captain 1 / Soldier 3 / Bloodsworn is one rather nice progression for this build, using the Soldier's free basic combat feats to fuel the PL. It helps that one of the prereqs for Bloodsworn, Lightning Reflexes, is a basic combat feat that would be a handy option for a Captain to share with his allies.
you could also replace bloodsworn for paladin if you do not have the adventurers companion. and with paladin you start getting battle planning. as well as some extra healing capabilities. this build if you start with crusader could also represent a holy knight and a devout priest he is sworn and honor bound to defend.
edit i mean replace soldier with crusader.
