Sounds like some of my Spycraft espionage game. You know espionage, the genre where fights attract attention? Wink

haha this reminds me of the very 1st campaign in Spy craft I ran, the deal was I would run one long enough to get the players acquainted with the system and someone else would take over after the 1st character died but with a gentlemen's agreement that I would play it fair by the rules and to pretty much only kill them if they did something stupid.  So I loaded up all the bleak and grim sorts of Campaign qualities...Those damn bastards managed to make it from 1st level to the 20th level with the most deadly rules in the game in effect by doing there damnedest to avoid unfavorable combat.  It was a very fun campaign with really tense hairy moments it was great and I am proud that they made it that far.

Still havn't gotten restored my PDFs yet,
But I was thinking of adding a Vechile Tag for the Fuel quality level required:
Low Octane
High Octane
Race Gas
Top Fuel
With the idea that when I get around to upgrades especially turbos/superchargers that they will each bump the category by one.  Things like Inter-coolers/Water or methanol injection/Lower Compression Will then be able to bump it down one or two grades.  Thus dealing with Street Ability issues on that front adding a layer of flavor and a hint of realism.   What do you think?

I watched and rather enjoyed the live action Speed Racer movie last night.  Of course it does help that we only paid $4 for the dvd and that I had no expectations other then for it be a baby sitter for my 3 year old while trying to get the things done around the house that you can't do with a little one under foot.  But hey its a side effect free psychotropic trip, and the plot was a fairly decent hero's journey sort of plot.

Actually it works fine for racing.

What I meant is if you want to do Les Mans, Winning, Gran Prix, or Days of Thunder or whatnot as a game, SC2.0 may not be the best tool since every character will be loaded down with things inappropriate to the genre.

Fast and Furious (1, 2 and 4) or Deathrace will work fine in SC2.0. The game has too much baggage for a pure racing campaign. Just like it has too much baggage for a baseball oriented game.

Well I was going to go look at the classes and start making a break down of what I liked and didn't like as to start constructing non-combat orientated classes. But all my PDFs are gone I will have to pull them from my back ups later.  SCs mechanics are some of the best for racing with the inclusion of stress damage and subdule damage and the way the handle them.  Also they have a fair amount of good vehicle qualities that can be expanded to deal even better with street ability issues and upgrade options.

Much like you can make a Martial Artist character using the Soldier class, but common is it nearly as awesome or feel as playing as the Martial Artist class from World on Fire?

While the Agent classes certainly work, they feel a bit shoe horned even the wheel man.  I do think the ground work done by them gives some great options and with the right campaign qualities and starting talents it can be done.  However it would be neat to have something a bit more auto enthusiast focused right out of the box.  To be able to get that Oil changer by day street racer by night feel.

I also have always wondered why we have 10,000 modern arm options to pick from for modern games but not one comprehensive car bible.

I can answer that - car companies sue, gun companies don't. I'm dead serious.

While we can't produce such a bible, we certainly wouldn't be opposed to you guys producing one - so long as it wasn't produced for sale in any way. Maybe you can construct it for our wiki.
I believe that fully, its a very big issue for the small video game developers as well.

So some very rudimentary ideas for base character classes would be:
Driver(obviously) with different focuses such as
Nimble: Loves nimble well handling cars.  Into Autocross, road racing, Canyon Carving, Mt Passes
Strong: Loves cars with a lot of acceleration and a high MPH.  Into Drag Racing, Salt Flats, Freeway racing, Circle Track
Endurance: Wins by outlasting ones opponents. Into Circle Track, 24 hour racing events, rally races, Gumball, Cannonball, ect...

Manager:  Someone who gets you races, on the street helps negotiate for a better advantage(Ok so we get 2 car lenghts), keeps the team running, deals with the sponsors.

Pit Chief:  This is the guy that keeps everything going.  Is into fixing and restoring cars.

Race Engineer:  This is the guy who helps make that tactical decisions in winning a race, tyre type, tuning adjustments, when to pit, what type of line one should be taking.

Has to be the Auto Racing genre, while spycraft by far and large does the most to give us the tools for a kick but racing campaign it is still lacking.  The chases system doesn't translate as well to racing as it sits now but certainly could.  I also have always wondered why we have 10,000 modern arm options to pick from for modern games but not one comprehensive car bible.  I vote that we should get tougher as a community and do a community based and supported powered by Spycraft ultimate guide to cars book.  Spycraft gives us all sorts of great starting points that could be expanded on.  So people throw Days of Thunder, Driven, Vanishing point, Driver, RPM, Fast and Furious, Initial D, Wangan Midnight, ect ect ect into your DVD players and lets start cranking out some ideas...
So is there any sorts of interest in this sort of thing?
