As another SR2 vet, let me say that the SR5 character creation rules sap my will to live.

Premades, or at least templates, aren't a bad idea for them treasuring preparation.

I didn't think they were that bad. I'm not crazy about going back to the priority system, but it was a hell of a lot better than the point system in v3/v4.

I'd suggest really looking into the Shadowrun v5 rules now.   They make more sense and can be done on the fly, right along with combat and it doesn't slow things down.   Now I haven't played the rules, but have been reading through them to understand them more.  Especially with being wireless for most things now.   Something added in v3 that didn't make much sense at the time, but now with v5, its much better.   Who ever is now on the writing team for SR 5, really did a good job on the rules.   

Just to note, I have all 5 rules sets v1 - v5, so I've seen the rules mature.  I think v5 is the best yet.

Well, for their mostly being huge Star Wars nerds, I was a bit puzzled by th decision that Han was building a snow cave rather than, as you can clearly see in the film, erecting an insulated tent. Beyond that though. I can't really see any other thing they could have easily tested.

That's what I thought too.  A thermo-insulated tent with maybe a portable heater of some kind.  Just had to keep Luke warm enough till he was done.

For all the specials the Mythbusters have done, I thought this one was a bit weak.

Since a critical hit requires spending an Action Die, otherwise its just a threat.   The character would have to spend an action die on each one.  At least that's how I would rule it.  And since most characters don't have that many action dice, that would limit how many they could do at a time.

I think #5 for RPGs should be named: you can't plan for everything.     Which still means you don't have everything planned out.  Sometimes you have to wing it.

As for abilities, what happens if you get, for example, Battle Planning twice? Think about a captain/paladin just to name one.

If you have Battle Planning I from the Captain, then go Paladin and get it again, for these you get then next level, in this case Battle Planning II.

Yep, this is what happened.

Burglar snuck up on a guard with Very Very Sneaky and succeeded. When it came to roll damage I did so, rolling 1d8 for her rapier, then I was lost; what do I roll to do extra damage?

My problem is that I assumed I'd be rolling extra damage due to a few reasons

1. Old school rogues/thieves
2. I'd just snuck up behind an opponent and was about to dish the hurt

But, even so, I still only see references to 'extra' sneak damage dice, which leads me to believe there's a standard for sneak damage dice. Can't for the life of me find it though.

Sneak Attack Damage is listed on page 211 (Second Printing).
The "extra" can be confusing, do to the fact you can get sneak attack dice from multiple things.  From the discussions before, its basically the first time you get something that grants 'extra' sneak attack dice is when you can do sneak attack dmg.
