16  Products / Fantasy Craft / Re: Critical Surge + Bladestorm = Ten Half Actions with one roll of a 20? on: December 07, 2013, 04:30:29 AM
Since a critical hit requires spending an Action Die, otherwise its just a threat.   The character would have to spend an action die on each one.  At least that's how I would rule it.  And since most characters don't have that many action dice, that would limit how many they could do at a time.

That or a LMD that doesn't know what it is.   I base that on the conversation in the first episode between Hill and the Dr.

I think #5 for RPGs should be named: you can't plan for everything.     Which still means you don't have everything planned out.  Sometimes you have to wing it.

As for abilities, what happens if you get, for example, Battle Planning twice? Think about a captain/paladin just to name one.

If you have Battle Planning I from the Captain, then go Paladin and get it again, for these you get then next level, in this case Battle Planning II.

Yep, this is what happened.

Burglar snuck up on a guard with Very Very Sneaky and succeeded. When it came to roll damage I did so, rolling 1d8 for her rapier, then I was lost; what do I roll to do extra damage?

My problem is that I assumed I'd be rolling extra damage due to a few reasons

1. Old school rogues/thieves
2. I'd just snuck up behind an opponent and was about to dish the hurt

But, even so, I still only see references to 'extra' sneak damage dice, which leads me to believe there's a standard for sneak damage dice. Can't for the life of me find it though.

Sneak Attack Damage is listed on page 211 (Second Printing).
The "extra" can be confusing, do to the fact you can get sneak attack dice from multiple things.  From the discussions before, its basically the first time you get something that grants 'extra' sneak attack dice is when you can do sneak attack dmg.

I don't have my FC book handy, but there is a limit on the number of Prizes (magic items) that a player can have, I forget exactly what the number is again or based.   That being said, FC is balanced enough you can play without having any magic items at all.

And another thing to remember, although FC is a D20 based system, that's where most of the similarities end, so direct conversions from other games is not as straight forward as you might thing.   Not that it can't be done, guys on this board excel at coming up with ideas/conversions/strange ways to do things.  Just got to ask.

For the Gnome, if he takes the Sorcerer Specialty, he gets any 1 Species feat.  So this would allow to take a second level 1 only  feat, such as Elf Blood from Adventure Companion.

Also, keep in mind that in FC, your origin also helps define who you are.

Species/Talent defines who you are.
Specialty defines what you do.
Class defines how you do it.

And the variation are numerous and varied on how you can get to the same spot.

I think it would be better to build a ground up trilogy based on the 'verse already set up by the first movie and the TV shows, but this could turn out decent, maybe better.
It would but Emmerich has never recognized the TV Shows.  To him, canon is the lone movie they made.  He wanted to do a trilogy back then, but MGM decided on a TV Show.    As long as they don't just rehash the movie as the first one, I think I could be fine with that.

Not until after Gen Con, but relatively soon after there will be a pretty big update about Spellbound, and pre-order customers will be - let's call it "very pleased" for now.

Finally had a chance to download and play Shadowrun Returns.  Finished it after work this evening.

It's a good little game with some long term promise even if it does not have a lot of meat on the bones at the moment.  For the interested, here's my spoiler free reveiw in spoiler tags to limit the space it takes up.

Ok, having played the pnp game since v1 (shudder),  I will have to check this out now.

Don't the cons over there have any sort of priority access package?

Some do - Gen Con for example - but most don't. Comic-Con specifically doesn't. Everything is first come, first served - save exclusives, which are a nightmare the likes of which die hard panel junkies like myself shudder to even consider.

See, this to me is just unreal.  A celebration of all things geek, and someone hasn't come up with a nifty technical way to make it better.  That is just a disgrace.  I guess the downside might be that you find out no one really likes something, cause they don't have to  sit there waiting for the next panel.
