Spikes don't make you sterile, as there are Koloss-blooded people in Alloy of Law and Koloss were rather peverse hemalurgical creations. It also means the effects can breed true in that case. It also means that spikes of normal metals could have some effect.  (I just thought of this and the implications when you mentioned about spikes and inheritance, although I still wonder about multi-metal Mistings.... seems odd).

Also, if you have a spike of Larasium.... shave off some pieces and burn 'em. Even if you were mundane, you're now an instant Mistborn.  Wink

Hm.... I hope we see Brandon wrote follow-ups to Alloy of Law. I'd totally love to see his plans of three trilogies on Scarial plus this one book turn into 4 trilogies Wink.

Well, in the Alloy of Law era hemalurgy seems to be largely unknown. So that makes it harder.

BUT, if the spikes DO breed true than I think it's workable, although step-wise and generationally. Find two Misting, make them into the type of the other with a spike. Add 1-2 more spikes that are identical and get say a woman who was a Seeker + spikes for Pewter, Tin, and Copper and mate her with a guy who was a Pewterarm with spikes for Copper, Tin, and Bronze. You should get children that often have all four of those metals. Next generation, add another 2-4 metals. Over 3-4 generations you could have a Mistborn, but even before than the 4-metal using offspring could be powerful. HOWEVER, I do wonder IF 4-metal using offspring are possible at all.... it may be Misting or Mistborn with no middle ground sans spikes.

Even if this is possible, it sure is warped, so who knows if we'll see it....

Also realize that not everything is made from metal in the Final Empire.... there's lots of wood or stone buildings, so you won't always get to choose exactly where a metal anchoring point is. Hence why being Mistborn really helps. If in a modern city with skyscrapers full of metal and lamps and stoplights made of metal then I could see a Lurcher pulling off a Spiderman "flight" more easily.

Even just knowing the fun name for Wayne would be interesting Wink. We only got one iirc, "Crasher", so any other pairings with names would be fun, especially with a comment in the book that one kid knew ALL the names of the different Twinborns.

DISCLAIMER: Lots of spoilers here!

So... I read House of Ashes after buying the Digital version from DTRPG.com a few weeks ago. First off, I LOVE the RPG itself, and I'm am very appreciative of the FREE extra content that is House of Ashes, so I'm quite pleased overall with with the product itself, but...

To House of Ashes, my overall reaction was very mixed...

I was engrossed by the stories and enjoyed them while reading, BUT (and it's a big BUT) felt REALLY dissappointed, unresolved, and unsatisfied when I finished the novella.

The quality of writing itself was great, the characters excellent, the settings and wide breadth of coverage were great, there were only minor editorial issues, and it was an EXCELLENT overview of MANY of the elements and feel of the setting, BUT... this seemed much more like a loosely connected series of short stories.

Had this been marketed as a collection of short stories, I think it would have been much more accurate and somewhat less disappointing to me.

The stories didn't follow the characters very well, for example, what on earth happened to Tieran? There's such focus on him and then he just disappears.
Who is Roan in the last story and why should I care about him? What kind of ending is finishing with this story that has so seemingly little to even do with House Bylerum (the "House of Ashes" I gather)?
What happened to Jas?
What about Amyse? She cries goes away and we only hear tangentially about a thieving mission to free her, and nothing else about her or her fate.
There were just WAY too many loose ends.

One of the big omissions was Jas. When someone defeats an INQUISITOR, esp. a combat maniac like Jas, you kinda wanna know SOMETHING about how it happened. Heck, even if his eye nails were toyed with later it at least somewhat explains (or even ADDRESSES) his defeat, if it is desired to do it offscreen. That loose end REALLY bothered me.

The inconsistency of this random guy sleeping on the floor of Ryia's hut all the time. If Roan IS a "Lord Bylerum" (one of the sons I'd guess) than it seems REALLY odd for him to sleep there so much. It just doesn't fit with what we've known of her and her former romance.

Also, basically ALL of these stories were downers... there's almost no heroism, no victory, it all seems rather depressing. The Mistborn trilogy was dark in places, but there still was some victory and triumph and good in them. It appears absent here other than the very first part with Tel. A missed opportunity in my mind.

I've expressed all the negatives here and vented, but I was engaged by the stories and remain impressed by the coverage of setting elements, but was left with such mixed feelings I thought I'd share.

So, Wax's "Crasher" abilities were awesome to see. The use of Steelpushing with Iron skimming was just brilliant.

So.... I tried to think of some cool combos for Twinborne to have in the Alloy of Law setting. Here's what I've come up with so far, as I thought others here might be interested.

Duraluminminds store connection to others, couple with a Soother (Brass Misting) or Rioter (Zinc Misting) for an amazing conman/manipulator

----

Pewterarm + Steelmind (really FAST)

----

Pewterarm + Ironmind (store weight for extra damage and momentum)

----

Pewterarm + Pewtermind (store physical strength AND get compounding for LOTS of strength)

---

Pewterarm + Goldmind (absorb damage AND heal better; some "regen")

---

Tineye + Zincmind (to help interpret all the input MUCH better)

---

Slider (Bendalloy) + Steelmind (speed in two ways!)

Anyone got any other ideas? What do you think of these?

First of all.... BRAVO! on the Mistborn Adventure Game RPG. It rocks on toast!!! Love it! You guys are truly Mistborn fans and it shows. Bravo again!

So.... I'm SUPER excited your working on a supplement for Alloy of Law as I LOVE the book AND all the possibilities for roleplaying in that time frame.

BUT.... I wanted to post some hopes and thoughts on what I'd like to see in such a Alloy of Law supplement.

-->Twinborn Character Creation (use a Strong priority like a Mistborn I imagine)
-->Rules for Compounding!!! (com'n! you gotta include that!!! Miles was da bomb as a villian and exploring other Dual Twinborns would be sweet)
--> Better Ranged Combat, esp. now with GUNS!
--> Anti-misting rounds (I'd LOVE to see rules for these! Go Ranette!)
--> Names of the other Twinborn combos, in addition to just "Crasher"
--> Setting details, GIMME MORE!! Wink   ...info on Pathians would be cool.
--> Properties of Duralumin weapons and gear (like those guns and all) [or at least I assume this was the stronger alloy of aluminum used to make their weapons]
--> Rules for charging feruchemical metalminds while in a Bendalloy bubble. (expensive yes, but someone's going to want to do it. Wink)
