I'm doing my best to read the backstory for this setting, so I don't have a great plot or background yet for my character.  Thinking of a Volus Fixer for now, and just curious if there's any preview of Smuggler advanced class out.  If not, I'll think of another good option.  He'll always be looking to make a good deal, but he's very calculating and risk-averse, so perhaps a strange addition to a mercenary team.  Much more of a facilitator than a combatant.

Setting: Agree with above that Old Republic has some definite possibilities for gameplay, but Firefly and Bebop are just fine, and I think Farscape is a good candidate, too.

Magic: I like magic-technology hybrids, but if it's not a natural part of the setting, not worth jamming it in.

System: I have several books with Mistborn being the only one I can think of right off that I haven't picked up yet.

Science: For reading, I prefer hard SF, but for gaming, it can too easily become techno-babble if you try to take the science seriously and attempt to use it to make what seem like obvious combinations.  I generally prefer a more space opera style where things just work but you don't necessarily think about it very hard.  That said, it won't make a huge difference to me either way.

Transmechs: No interest in giant robots.  I prefer personal augmentation, a la GITS, though.

I'd love Farscape meets Call of Cthulhu,  but I'm up for any of the ideas that I've seen.  Sounds like a lot of fun whatever it ends up being.

I'm still suggesting the hospital as part of our surveillance route, but I'm not sure if I'm getting ahead of things too much.

Let's add the hospital to our 'drive-by' and see what condition it's in.  I can get out and hoof it to see if there are any lights on, any easy way in, and how visible the heating plant is from the road and/or air.

I'd like to Investigate/Research if there's any record of underground access, either from the hospital close by or via old sewer system?  Older armories sometimes had underground bunkers, and there might be some old access that people have forgotten about.

Webworm would like to perform an Analysis/Examine Media check on the maps we've been provided.  If it's applicable, his 'historical sites' interest might be useful if the base was built on top of an older facility.  Also, where is building 2099?

I'll probably be more in touch over the holidays than I've been up to now, so count me in if you do updates.

As for what a Lawman can do, I'm good at Bureaucracy and Intimidate checks, I have a bonus with assisted skill checks, and I get a free Resource request check per mission.  A couple other things, but not very relevant here.

Webworm: "Just thinking how edgy they must be on the bases lately, worried that there might be another shooting, or something equally bad.  I think they'd be mighty cooperative if a hazmat truck pulled up with astronaut suits and the whole works and said there's an anthrax threat on the base... and we have a suspected location we're investigating, and we need the MPs to evacuate major areas.  We might not be able to get everyone out, though... hmm.. maybe I'm watching too many late night movies."

[OOC] Sorry for not contributing earlier.. been a crazy week to say the least.[/OOC]

I always prefer the soft approach to these things.  It's all about people at the end of the day.  I like the ideas everyone's putting out there, so let me ask some of the smarter people in the room, how can we use their security against them?

What I'm thinking about is, why get to the box ourselves if they'll do it for us?  What would have to happen for them to go inspect it themselves?  What would have to happen for them to move it to a different, less secure location on the base?

What if they thought it had already been compromised?  What does the security protocol tell them to do in that case?

Oh, and if you need me to go have a few beers with some soldiers after hours, I'm your man.  Deep cover and all.  *wink*

Ok, here's mine in attached document.  I'm new to this, so very likely there are some errors.

Basic background for the character:

He was a cop, and a decent one, but he mostly got by on charm, and one day that came back to bite him when he was unable to keep up with a fleeing suspect who later almost killed a cop, leaving him paralyzed.  He'd found ways to dodge the health review in the past, and he was never officially sanctioned for his failure, but unofficially he knows what everyone thought, and he still carries that guilt.  (Subplot: discredited)  He still has friends, contacts, etc., but right now he's looking to redeem himself somehow, and he's been obsessive about working out and trying to get himself fit.

He's good at putting people at ease and disarming them.  He's not that bright sometimes, but he's smart when it comes to people.

Headed towards Guide expert class, and not sure what else he might try on the way.

Regarding Lawman levels, I was going to make it Lawman 4 Guide 10.  I don't have a full plan up to level 20, but I can figure it out on the way if necessary.

As for setting, I'm fine with most anything.  I think a little Lovecraft can make any genre better, but I'm fine with a straight real-world style, too.

Mine's almost done, but need to figure out gear.  Which leads to my first question:

To use Badge I, do I just assume that I have one?  Can I have a suitable looking one as a common item, or do I need to buy a Tradecraft pick to have it?

Here's what I have so far:

Timothy Dawson
Charismatic Collector Lawman 3
Codename: Webworm
Skills: Analysis, Athletics, Investigation, Notice, Prof., Resolve, Sense Motive, Streetwise
Feats: Pack Rat, Talented (Advisor), Safe House

And I have all the numbers and gritty details in a Word document that I can upload.

I've almost got a Lawman written up, headed toward Guide.
