First, essential supplements are in fact a goal. They have to be - otherwise there's little reason to put them out, let alone support any game beyond its core release. Overwhelming feedback indicates that ongoing support is something most folks want, so we either conceive games as lines of essential products or quit making games. Given that we like making games, we choose the former.
Second, core books are not the place to exhaustively explore topics. In fact, that's one of the fastest ways to a) kill your ability to give customers what they want (i.e. ongoing support - see above), and b) make your game so dense and unapproachable that no one gives it a fair shake. I can attest to this - I've made that game, and exhaustive exploration of gear (and other things) is frequently cited as one of the primary faults of the core book.
Finally, I can assure you that Gear & Gadgets will NOT be a "Day 0 product." We're not even considering it. Not only would it be counter-productive, it would be unrealistic, and we all know what happens when we venture down that road. Quoted for Truth and Common Sense-ed-ness

It appears the spammers/bots are learning, Boris has posted a couple of posts which look like spam to me (in the Off Topic forum, in the "Hi" and Video Games and Agent Hunter threads.
I think I gained the Baffled I condition reading those posts. I just don't even. What's the purpose / endgame? A SysAdmin explained this to me the other day and it's frighteningly cunning - they'll post something, somewhere, that is vaguely on topic but just gibberish enough to be ignored by the majority of the posters. Then a few days later, the bot will edit the post, putting in a link for a product or service of some kind. This means that people are less likely to ID it as spam, but when the gCrawler next pops by it goes to the link, thus increasing the hit count and therefore position of said product on a google search. Pretty clever stuff, actually.

Wow. That... wow..... Not funny. Not interesting. Too scary for little kids. Not smart enough for big kids. Absolutely nothing there that would make me want to watch it. Who are they targetting with this one? That looks like trash

Me too - hell I even thought Elektra was passable. But I really liked Daredevil. It'll be interesting to see how Agents of Shield goes - I don't know if the required budget for a good supers program would get it's money back The thing to remember about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is that it's NOT a supers program. I'll be stunned, frankly, if they include actual supers more than occasionally. Yeah I realise but I'm treating it as a Gateway Drug, uh, program If AoS goes well, there may be an "in" for a low-powered super serial (Daredevil IMO would be at the upper limit of what I'd call low-powered). Not that we'll get AoS (or Arrow, for that matter ) over here in Kiwiland
