As threatened, went to see Man From U.N.C.L.E; this is what I said on the ol' Facebook:

Quote
first things first; HATED the fight scenes. Every single one of them are short-cut, shaky-cam nightmares. I know Guy Ritchie can do good fight scenes (see: Sherlock Holmes) so I don't know why...

But that aside; excellent movie. Really enjoyed it. Funny, (reasonably) smart, good villain(ess), suitably cold-war-high-stakes, and I didn't even hate Hugh Grant in it Tongue
Well worth a watch.

Is that the Mark Walhberg, George Clooney Three Kings? I really enjoyed that movie, for pretty much the reasons you said Smiley

I'm going to see it later this week; here's a review that also disagrees (mostly) with the Variety review; especially in regard to Cavill and Hamer's performances

I don't expect it to be a Kingsman, but that movie was awesome. I expect this one to be "merely" good to great.

Did anyone who was there record anything?

I really wish Cruise's Jack Reacher film had done better box office to persuade the studio to greenlight a sequel.
Yeah agree with that. Casting decision aside (Reacher is described as what, 6'6"?) I was super impressed with the fight scenes in that movie - they were quick and brutal, just like they should be. The movie was passable, I'd definitely go watch a sequel.

The IBA has slightly different proportions (9.5, 2.5, 1.5) but it's still the same basic drink.
I was under the impression the whole point of the "parts" system was to avoid having to do fractions of things (making the IBA version 19 to 5 to 3)...
8  Community / Off-Topic / Re: Best Bond? on: July 30, 2015, 08:53:50 PM
Yep likewise. It's really really close for me between Brosnan and Connery, with Connery getting the slight edge as being the more iconically recognized Bond. The movie Lazenby was in was excellent, but I can't really judge him based on one performance.

I'm not completely sold on Craig yet, but he's not awful.

I agree Moore doesn't quite "click" for me, and I didn't like Dalton's portrayal of Bond at all.

OHMSS was a *VERY* good Bond film. Not sure about Lazenby the actor, but his Bond was brilliant. Definitely (IMO) the closest movie Bond to the book Bond (Skyfall gets surprisingly close as well).

I actually have a soft spot for Brosnan; after Dalton's...portrayal... I really enjoyed his combination of panache and seriousness. However, and somewhat predictably, when someone says "James Bond" it's Connery that immediately springs to mind.

I nearly got out with the full team (when I pulled the pin everyone was still drawing breath), but lost one guy to a misread/misclick (he had "Close and Personal" and I swear he was within the 4 block trigger zone, had a shot and then... couldn't move  Angry, and lost another guy in the evac zone, everyone was in there one one b***ard charges into the evac zone and rips him in half and then the ride arrives.

Vague post to avoid spoilers (although not sure it can be spoiled after 5(?) years, I've managed to avoid them more or less which means I'm still getting surprised by stuff, which is good)

I'm not particularly musically minded; what's the tune?

(as an aside, what's with all the capital letters in the middle of words these days.... /oldpersonrant)

Can someone who is going - with Crafty's permission, of course - record/video the SpyCraft workshop and upload it? Pretty please with the ruins of The Shop on top?

I believe you're the one inserting the capitals, my friend. It's officially "Spycraft." Smiley

We have no issue with folks recording the workshops. You can only participate, however, with a ticket. (Gen Con's rules.)
Good to know (on both counts  Grin )
