I recently discovered Great Old Games website and I feel they are a much better alternative to Steam.  I just bought Heroes of Might and Magiv IV and have been enjoying the game.  I don't really get the hate this iteration got from fans.  I like the shakeup where the heroes are actively participating in the battle.  I like how a faction's town can look different from one another simply by choosing what buildings to build.

I looked into both DC and Marvel deck building games and found issues that prevented me from purchasing the games.  In the DC version, I thought it ridiculous that iconic heroes could obtain powers that had nothing to do with their comic book image.  With Marvel, the whole setup and gameplay looked lame.

Recently I found Star Realms which I feel is a better game than Ascension.  Ascension is a great game and I like it more than Dominion.  However, the artwork is such a downer and it lessened my enjoyment of the game.  I found Star Realms plays almost exactly like Ascension but it has a mechanic that I absolutely love and that is the direct confrontation with your opponent(s).  I also enjoyed the artwork.  The only downer has been the expansions.  they are very small expansions (12 card pack expansions) and none of them really increased my enjoyment of the base game.

I'm still trying to get a group together to play the Gates of Arkham expansion for Elder Signs.  I've been enjoying the game vicariously through the session reports on BGG.  Sad, I know...

I got to experience Cards Against Humanity.  Was not really my cup of tea but I did enjoy the company I played with.

Saw Kingsman last night and for the most part loved it.  The part that kind of spoiled my view of the movie was the psychadelic mushroom explosions.  My friends and I were like WTF!

(Insert School Girl Tee-hee!)

Back to the topic at hand before we go into realms which will not be discussed, lol...

Anyone ever play Tannhauser?  I bought the entire line because I liked the Mini's.. and.. strangely enough.. it's a decent FPS-ish skirmish game.

I try to stay away from hybrid board/wargames because usually the base game feels either incomplete or not enough depth.  I hate buying expansions that are mainly figures (unless it is a tabletop wargame).

I picked up the Gates of Arkham expansion for Elder Sign this afternoon. As we're expecting another round of horrible weather tonight, I think I'm going to break this one in with a couple of solo runs.

I was going to pick this expansion up but a slew of Nintendo products just came out and I could not resist...

I played a couple more games of Roll for the Galaxy and the couple of people I taught it to loved it!  It is a dice version of the popular Race for the Galaxy.  It has arguably the same depth as the card game but is easier to teach due to not having to memorize the iconography that is prevalent in the card game.  I think this is one of the best game to come out of 2014 (came out in December but majority of people got it January of this year).

I bought Android a long while back, I finally got to play a full game with five people. I successfully got my hunch to be guilty, but still lost by a wide margin due to conspiracy related shenanigans. It's a fun game but I think it might have too much going on. The events in particular seemed like unnecessary complication.

I agree!  First, the whole concept is a misnomer.  When I first got the game, I thought it would be a kind of deductive type game but instead, you are actively trying to get your chosen person convicted and another free from blame.  Due to how the light and dark cards worked, we had to agree not to pick on any one person consecutively.  I still don't understand how the puzzle element minigame works.  Other than that, I loved moving all over the board collecting clues and stuff.  Advancing your character's story felt interesting but the one time we played the game, we did not get to finish the game.

Nothing new purchased yet, but will probably pick up Gates of Arkham tomorrow night.

I played IDW's new X-Files game last weekend. Really liked it, even if CSM defeated us.

I looked it up on Dice Tower and after watching the video, I don't think I will like it due to it being too simple.

I bought FFG's Android boardgame and the theme is amazing but the gameplay is a mixed bag for me

So what is the first new boardgame you have acquired/played for 2015?

The 1st boardgame I've obtained for 2015 is Roll for the Galaxy.  Had a difficult time teaching the game to one group and much easier time teaching it to another group but the common problem was that they felt overwhelmed with what they initially thought as fiddly rules.  Once they played a few rounds, the game clicked for them and with the first group, that is the game we ended up playing multiple times throughout the night and morning.

I plan on getting the new expansion for Elder Signs that allows you to play outside the museum.  Then here is Nations the Dice game.

Can you see a pattern...LOL

I am a fan of D&D3.x and the OGL.  Perusing my FLGS, I came across Dark Inheritance and that in turn piqued my interest in finding out more about SpyCraft.  I was hesitant about getting into Classic SpyCraft so late in the game but jumped on board as soon as I saw SC 2.0.

What I'm not looking for in 3rd party product:
-Adventure module

What I'm looking for in 3rd party product:
-Monster manual....can never have too much...
-Psionic handbook...I would love to use FC to run Dark Sun...just saying...
-Setting...and a full setting at that.  I would eat up the inevitable splatbooks that detail the world if the setting grabbed me.  Having more species and masterclasses specific to the setting would be a plus.
-Something similar to Unearthed Arcana to show alternate mechanics that would work seemlessly with the core FC mechanic giving you viable alternatives that would better fit your vision of a world.
-Must be a physical product.  If you only offer it as a pdf, I won't bother getting it.

Tried out the new version of Wiz-War and realized that the classic version was much more fun for several reasons.

1) The new version ends too quickly for any one of pulling off hilarious moves.  You only need 2 points to win.

2) The wizards die too easily.

3) The boards are boring playgrounds.  It is compounded by the movement rules.

There are some neat things about the game:

1) The pieces are beautiful!  I absolutely love the count down counter.

2) Cards have multiple uses.

3) Game doesn't drag
13  Products / Fantasy Craft / Re: Converting Campaign to FC Questions on: June 16, 2012, 12:25:54 PM
I believe it is basically impossible to convert RIFTS OCCs/RCCs to FC's Class system.  The first problem you have to overcome is the front-loadedness of Palladium chargen.  There are multiple powers that define each OCC/RCC upfront whereas in FC, there is just the core ability that really define the class and one other ability that starts you off on that class' journey.  The second problem is the balance issue.  FC, from its d20 legacy, is geared towards balanced gameplay whereas RIFTS throws that concept out the window.

Trying to make a straight conversion is neigh impossible so you have to find that one essence that really define that class and build around that essence using FC's class structure.  You also have to decide how balanced you want the classes to be.  The more balanced you want, the more you'll find that it feels less like RIFTS OCC/RCC.  SO you have to figure out how much of a sacrifice you are willing to make in either direction.

In my experience, I've tried to convert it to d20 and Savage Worlds.  It really was a nightmare.  However, I found a system that can accomodate almost all the RIFTS concepts effortlessly.

This may be old news to you guys but I just found out today that Alcatraz got canceled.  I was looking forward to next season.  Oh well..

The one that I will miss though will be "Missing".  I really got into that show and am sad to see it no longer produced.

Who among us saw the Dark Shadow movie.  I want to hear from those of you who saw it before I go see it.  I wanted to see 21 Jumpstreet because I was a huge fan of the TV show but the movie's portrayel really turned me off so I guess I'm being a bit cautious.
