Fantasy Craft / Archers & Turning Mounted Animals
« on: March 15, 2012, 04:19:45 PM »
Hi everyone,
can an Archer Turn mounted animals  ;)? If so, can the latters' riders try to handle them to calm them and re-gain their control? If so, how? What DC should they reach or beat? Perhaps the Turning DC (10 + 1/2 the turning character's Resolve Bonus)? Or just a variable DC based on the Handling Animals Maneuver?  ???
Many Thanks,

Fantasy Craft / Doubts about some combat feats...
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:13:20 PM »
Hi, I'm a bit uncertain about the correct interpretation of a couple of combat feats:
1) Knife Mastery: the 2 additional dice of sneak attack damage are added only against flat footed, or surprised, etc. opponents, or against any opponent, whatever his/her/its conditions?
2) Flail Mastery: "If this attacks hits, it counts as 2 melee hits for this round": does it mean that I roll twice to determine the damage I score, or it's only useful to gain benefits from the Whirling Serpent Stance?
Many thanks,

Fantasy Craft / Musical Instruments
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:07:53 PM »
Hi, what if a character wants to learn to play a musical instrument? Is it considered a Study? Is it a Focus of the Impress Skill?  ???
Many thanks,

Fantasy Craft / Enlightened skill question
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:19:43 AM »
I don't understand a sentence within the Enlightened Skill Special Ability: what does "Only the highest bonus from any songle enlightened ability may apply to each skill"?  ??? Could anybody make some example and explain it better to me? Many thanks in advance,

Fantasy Craft / Sneak Attack Die
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:15:43 AM »
The type of die characters get in addition for their sneak attack, is the same of the weapon the're using? (d12 for long swords, d8 for short swords and so on...)
Many thanks,

Fantasy Craft / To Stack or not to stack
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:12:24 AM »
I've noticed that, mixing origins you can get more than one time the same special ability: as a general and "official" rule, do these bonuses stack? For instance, if I create a Human Mage Wizard Charismatic I would get the Encouragement Special Ability twice: would I give +2 morale buonus (stacking the two bonuses), or just +1 (not stacking them)?  ???
I think they should stack, even if they are "named" bonuses, because it would make sense trying to specialize the character giving them coherent adn recurring "personality traits and attitudes", rather than saying "Oh, I would like to choose this talent, but I already have this bonus from another source, so I'm going to choose something else. Yes, this is metagame thinking, but many players of mine share this approach.
This is just an example, but there are other possible examples, so I would really like receiving an "official" answer I've not been able to find in the core rulebook so far.
Many Thanks,

Fantasy Craft / Why I love Fantasy Craft...
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:43:33 PM »
Hi, I just want to write down some of the reasons why I love Fantasy Craft:
1) It's a "corageous" system, that tries to start from the d20 OGL to reach unexplored territories
2) It gives the D20 system a cinematic approach I really enjoy!
3) It beautifully blends a modern approach with a clear and distinctive old school feel, and with a great survey over the skies of the new wave systems
4) The classes are perhaps a little less powerful (especially spell casters) if compared to other d20 OGL systems, but I love them just for this reason, and I love them because each class is really unique, and very, very flavorful. Arcane Spell casters and Divine spell casters are really different!
5) The combat seems to be at the same time simpler (no attacks of opportunity, or iterative attacks, etc.) and trickier, from a tactical point of view (advanced actions, tricks and the like)
6) I like the "Tree Feats approach", and the organization within coherent topic related groups of the Feats
7) I like the fact that Fantasy Craft seems to be deeply rooted in "real world" myth, cultural tradition, movies, and books
8) The gorgeous graphic layout and the art of the books
9) The huge amount of options and flexibility, especially during the character creation phase
10) The increasing with levels Defense and Initiative, and (at least at a first glance) less dependency on (magical) equipment by the characters
11) The importance given to the story and the plot rather than to the game mechanics
12) The coherent, logic, and deep thought which I feel fuels this engine with the best of 40 years of roleplaying systems development and many many original ideas
... and many, many other reasons: I've had the books since a week ago, I'm reading them and I'm really an enthusiast fan of this game...
If you want to share them, which are your motifs? Why do you love Fantasy Craft?

Fantasy Craft / 1 Level Mages and Spell Points
« on: November 20, 2011, 06:30:25 AM »
Hi, if I have understood it well, 1st level Mages can cast only 0 level spells, right? Why, then, do they have 2 spell points available at that level?
Are they using them if they want to add tricks to their spells?
And if so, where are these tricks in the rulebook?
Sorry, but I've just skimmed through the rulebook, and didn't read it completely. In any case, I'm absolutely convinced that this is the best d20 interpretation I've ever seen and read.
Many thanks,
F.G. :D

Fantasy Craft / Spells - 0 level, starting spells and gaining new spells
« on: November 20, 2011, 12:36:52 AM »
Hi everybody:
1) do 0 level spells have a cost in spell points or not? Are they for free, la cantrips in Pathfinder?
2) A mage starts with a number of spells = to his/her Wisdom SCORE (not modifier) + the Spellcasting Bonus (ranks + int modifier) right?
3) How are new spells gained? Each new rank in spell casting, or raise in Wisdom, allows a mage to learn a new spell?
Many thanks,

Fantasy Craft / Spell Casters and Armor
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:35:13 AM »
are there any rules about spell casters & armor, such as percentages of failing the casting of a spell, as in D&D 3.5. or Pathfinder? Can spell casters wear every kind of armor they want? I've not finished reading the core book yet, am I missing something about this issue?  ???
Thanks, F.G.

Fantasy Craft / Half Elves
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:30:53 AM »
Hi again,
do Half Elves exist in FC? I've seen the Fey Legacy/Fey Heritage Species Talents, but they don't sastisfy what I have in mind and would like to recreate: are there any rules that allow to create Half Elves la Tanis Half Elven from the Dragonlance Chronicles?
Many thanks,
F.G. ???

Fantasy Craft / Crunch!
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:28:07 AM »
Hi, everybody: just bought FC and I'm thrilled and excited as I was when I bought the D&D Red Box, back in the 1985!
It's fantastic, probably the best incarnation and the interpretation of the D20 OGL.
I'm reading the book, and until now I'm even appreciating it more than D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder: it doesn't even seem too much crunchy to me, if compared to D&D 3.5 and PF, and I have the impression I can really create the character I want to play.
More than anything I'm really enjoying the flavor of the game: it manages to give emotions and unpredicatability back to the game system! And I really like having a complete game in just one book (anyway, I bought also the PDF Adventure Companion...)
Just a question: a human (crusading) cavalier - the Talent and the Specialty both have the Crunch! special feature - do the Bonuses stack or not? That character has + 2 to Strength based damage or + 1?
Many thanks!  ;)
