I remember watching all those as a kid except Cover Up. Love how that one uses glamor shots from the actors' portfolios in the show's into. So, so cheesy...

EDIT: Oh, you added more. Automan rocked (but then, I'm about the biggest Tron fan you'll meet - unless you know this guy (http://www.tronguy.net/)).

And I still catch Equalizer on cable every so often. Edward Woodward is amazing, and who can get enough of that spectacular intro.

Of course, there's also...

Max Headroom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKbE6SWV1sE&mode=related&search=)

Greatest American Hero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b1-A7nP1MA&mode=related&search=)

Moonlighting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR63nSVTN1o&mode=related&search=)

Hill Street Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26_7eJKt5pM&mode=related&search=)

Charlie's Angels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGky5Hh7_1s&mode=related&search=)

And my favorite show of all time, Remington Steele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9hB6d8jA2g&mode=related&search=). And here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9cyIgWiNNI) the intro after the shake-up (and with the signature Harry Mancini music).

Oh, how I love 80s TV...

Okay, enough farting around. Gotta get back to work. :)

I couldn't find Masquerade with Greg Evigan ... they always had guest stars that were ordinary people working for their country.

Also, wow, I'd forgotten that Jane Badler was in MI:88. She was also in V: The Series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr7ZxQcgJ24) (the music in that intro makes it sound like Dynasty: The Invasion).

All too true, and still somewhat in the Spycraft vein. A lot of iconic 80s stuff isn't (take for instance most of the Aaron Spelling fare), but Mann's TV opus certainly falls within our sphere of play.

Ah, Blue Thunder.  Talk about missing the moral of the story and going straight for the easy money.

I also was fond of Automan when I was a wee lad.  At the time it was related to my fascination with all things Tron*.  Nowadays, I think it's my fascination with breaking all the laws of thermodynamics. ;)

My mom and grandpa raised me watching Remington Steele, but I didn't discover Moonlighting until I started catching reruns after college.  Yet another fan flag that makes me the freak among the local freaks.  :-\

*I also love Tron for different reasons now: I'm a sucker for religious imagery.  I have... ideas, for Tron, but no money and no skill.  I feel I could make a mind blowing remake, if only I can find someone who a) can help extract said ideas from my brain and use them, and b) doesn't mind throwing money away making it, because I'm not sure it will be appreciated.

I will be huge in Japan, however.

Yup. The movie and series were so radically different in theme and tone they might as well not have been the same property. Still, I can't fault them for cashing in. It's done because it works.

There's always talk of a remake. I saw a story about a studio looking at the idea again just a month or two ago. Will it happen? Probably, eventually. Sadly, though, I think it will probably miss the point. The odds tell us that it'll just wind up another hollow summer blockbuster, but we can dream...

Yeah, but he wasn't on a space ship, or fighting a dragon, or generally blowing crap up.

My social circle is made up of Capital 'G' Geeks.  I have come to realize... I am not one of those.  Yeah, fantasy, sci-fi, anime, I am drawn to all of these genre's, but I'll take in anything that shows quality workmanship.  My fellow gamers seem to choose these to the exclusion of all other genres, which seems short-sighted to me.   Moonlighting was a detective drama that really liked to crack jokes, but it's still set (sort of) in reality.  I suspect I'm also the only person at the local table whose ever said, "Cool, Gunsmoke is on."  I comfortable enough to state as fact that I'm the only one there reading Questionable Content (http://www.questionablecontent.net).

I've found I'm the only espionage fan among my friends.  And I'm not just taking James Bond, I mean espionage.  Bourne (movies sorry, Pat), Spy Game, the original M:I (not an action show), hell, I've even gone out of my way to catch old The Saint reruns when I had a TV.  I talked my friends into going to see Traffic in the theaters.  And got an earful for it.  When I tried to sell them on Memento, the response was, "That would never work."  The one  I did manage to drag to the theater ate his words.  I've long eschewed superhero comics for Sandman, and later Bone, Strangers in Paradise, Sin City, Jason Lutes, and just about everything else that is on the opposite end of Planet Marvel/DC.  I've gotten funny looks from friends when I tell them I don't read 'genre'* fiction, but no one took me up on my offer after I was raving about The Big Sleep when I picked up a copy at a church bizarre.

I cannot understand how anyone in this world can go through life and not find some attachment to music.  Any music.   ???

I've recently come to terms with the fact that I daily walk the fringe between the Normals and this isle of misfit toys we call 'fandom'.  And I feel at home.

*'Genre' is this use is defined as Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, licensed fiction in general, and fantasy in particular unless I'm really comfortable with the author.  I hold a special circle in hell for L5R's Clan War novels, which is wear I really swore the stuff off.

Holy crap, sorry abot that.  :-[

Not anymore. I read a number of drama web comics, and actually prefer them. This just got added to my list. I've always wrestled with the fact that I'm a non-sf geek. I like some sf, but as a genre my prefrence has always been espionage. Lately though, my prefrence is for real life stuff, biographies and the like. Sf is fun as fluff, but I rarely get excited about it.

I cannot understand how anyone in this world can go through life and not find some attachment to music.  Any music.   ???
I must confess I like music, but I'm rarely attached to it. Despite being a deadhead and traveling to shows, music just doesn't grab me enough to think about it most of the time. When it does, it's usually because I find it funny. I'd rather listen to Dr Demento than just aobut anything else. Comedy moves me, music is just filler.

It's not that I don't enjoy roleplaying.  On the contrary, I find it a blast.  I just also would have liked to seen The Prestige in theaters, or suggested it as a plan without it getting dismissed because I haven't seen Eragon.  (http://www.crafty-games.com/forum/Smileys/classic/rolleyes.gif)

Now to get this back on topic.

Thunderbirds (in Supermarionation) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgiupVI4huI)

I'm pretty sure this is only my flavor of crack.
Thunderbirds 2086 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiS3tpTQenE)

Here's a couple that have been missed...

Sledge Hammer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kygJbw-sZJw) - I managed to find the pilot episode on the internet some time back. It's still as enjoyable now as it was back then - at least to me.

The Avengers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvmgrnsaE1U) (the original series)

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV8YbLvGrb0)

The New Adventures of Wonder Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnzaTX407Wo)

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luTZnsIFG-w) (Not exactly old, but still a great show)

Thunderbirds 2086 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiS3tpTQenE)

I remember that.

The really bizarre thing is that TB-1 from that series was identical to the Phoenix from the toyline allegedly meant to tie in to Battle of the Planets. The toys looked nothing like the vehicles from the series but the packaging did have the characters from BotP on it. The toy designs however DID show up on the BotP pencil boxes I had as a kid...

Man... I remember that show and remember loving it.  Used to rush home after school to watch it on the now defunct PRISM cable channel here in the Philly area.  That and Robotech (or, more properly these days, Macross) are the only anime from my youth that I actually want to watch.  The others just feel way to cheesy.

Johnny Quest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV_-u9sxYZM) - definitely Spycraft material.
Scooby Doo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-HOyx_FH4E). When I was a kid I was not a big fan of Scooby, the plots were too formulaic, though I did not think of it in those terms.

An odd spinoff from Mary Tyler Moore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-zpGtVtqQk) - completely different theme, only one character in common, but there you go.... The scene I remember best from MTM was Ted Knight's character looking up in onbe of the minor characters bedroom, looking worried, and starting to comb his hair while looking up. He never mentioned a mirrored ceiling, but you knew it was there.

The Auld Grump, me Mum liked that show....

*EDIT* And one that I liked back then, for reasons that escape me now... My Partner the Ghost (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IpJAuJLiUU). :)
Which leads in turn to The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iesHbYYGMDA)

Masquerade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQGwneOek_c)

Don't ask me how I remember this show, or the fact that I could find the song... I would be lying if I didn't say that this show didn't have a profound impact for my love for spies.

I remember that show! Wow, I'd forgotten all about it until now. There's one I wish I could get episodes of now; I'd love to see it again.
Spencer for Hire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY3xEJ4RxcA), which spawned...

A Man Called Hawk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zge345LB5ZM) (with motha-lovin' Sisco in the lead role)

Spencer for Hire and A Man Called Hawk were Dad/Son bonding shows for me.

This thread is awesome. I see no-one has mentioned the following...

CHiPs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAidnO64NE4)

Hawaii Five-0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVESiJIiDqE)

Mentioned but not linked...

Remington Steele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9cyIgWiNNI) AKA the entire reason Brosnan got the Bond gig.

Moonlighting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR63nSVTN1o&mode=related&search=) One of the best tv chemistry couples ever.

Both those shows really understood how to build off of romantic tension. Know what's a shame? The totally different career paths of the female co-leads in these shows vs. the male stars.

Well, since we're moving into the animated stuff, there's the one that's probably closest to our little corner of the world - that's right, Dungeons & Dragons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR-3phs7e2Y&mode=related&search=)!

(I recently rewatched this as well, since they're playing it on one of the cablets out here.)

Some of the other stuff U.S. kids of my generation lived and breathed...

G.I. Joe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25R73tsJtV0&mode=related&search=)

The Real Ghostbusters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw_dVt4Dtlg) (which had not one but two Cthulhu episodes, both written by J. Michael Straczynski)

Transformers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhCtVq5iIa0)

Robotech (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P39cFXRU8uU)

Silverhawks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzAQu23t19A&mode=related&search=) (notable because it ended with the beginning of its first episode, allowing the show to run indefinitely without a break in continuity)

Defenders of the Earth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nm_jJBkHtU)

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsHUel04dY)

Inspector Gadget (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKeE3saeguY)

The Littles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HAn4fByVb8)

Jem and the Holograms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmYU4CeuZQ0) (but was she truly, truly, truly outrageous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tfuf-Um6TiQ)?)

And for fun, here's another espionage related one: Danger Mouse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oz32XecaHk&mode=related&search=)!

It would almost be criminal to include any show by Sid and Marty Kroft in a TV show standoff. Immediately one of those shows would constitute as: Cheesy and trump any other show. It would be like have a fictional spy contest and not use James Bond.

I completely forgot about the kid falling into the giant hat.

I also noticed that for "Land of the Lost" the show used bluegrass music for the intro.

It made me remember another show that came on before or after "Land of the Lost" that was a science fiction show. The only thing I could recall is that the doors opened when you place your hand over a black panel and a red diamond would light up.

More cheese (that's not Sid and Marty Kroft)
Great Space Coaster (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwVIZDAUF0&NR=1)

A show I had recently discovered from Gerry Anderson: UFO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDzNkern1Fc)

One of the best comedies ever made (IMO): Bosom Buddies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORKyyHBy6JQ) with one Billy Joel's best songs too.

Shows that were just a little ahead of their time:

The Flash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eea2wUO4z28)
Birds of Prey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzJT9zqVZtY) rwrrr!

I couldn't find an intro, but another victim to why vampire shows fail to live past one season (pun intended).
Kindred (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhIhOArx-3M)

Shows with little or no redeeming qualities, but they were fun to watch:
Cleopatra 2525 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YmnG2pzVgQ)
Jack of All Trades (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VNsjjYRgjc)
Godzilla (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1ZFwndITv8)

That show was banned in my house, along with "Three's Company". So, I snuck a peak at every episode I could.

I have all 8 episodes on DVD actually. It was a good mid-season replacement show but the guy who played Prince Julian was killed in a motorcycle accident during hiatus. Fans had mounted a letter writing campaign to get to be a regular season show but his death took all the wind out of their sails.

Stacy Haiduk and Jeff Kober nailed their roles in this as Lily Langtree the Toreador Primogen and Daedalus the Nosferatu Primogen.

Millenium: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_8m6x3n-zo&NR=1

That show pissed me off so much. The pilot was so amazing it kept me going through an entire season of serial-killer-of-the-week episodes, only to find the show reinvented in Season 2 as a bad-ass religious pre-apoc chronicle. Then they dumped that third year for a silly rehash of the X-Files and the show got canceled before their day counter ran out. Argh!

Just as well, I suppose. If the X-Files was any indication, Carter was making it up as he went along with both shows. If the counter had actually run down, I'm fairly certain it would have happened with no more cool than in the Spawn comic. Sigh.

It would almost be criminal to include any show by Sid and Marty Kroft in a TV show standoff.

Shackle me up and throw me in the brig! :)

Quote
It made me remember another show that came on before or after "Land of the Lost" that was a science fiction show. The only thing I could recall is that the doors opened when you place your hand over a black panel and a red diamond would light up.

Was it part of the Kroft line-up?

More cheese (that's not Sid and Marty Kroft)
Great Space Coaster (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwVIZDAUF0&NR=1)

Dude! Wow. I tip my imaginary hat to you, sir. That's a frakkin' find right there!

Shows that were just a little ahead of their time:

The Flash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eea2wUO4z28)
Birds of Prey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzJT9zqVZtY) rwrrr!

I really liked both of these, for different reasons. Well, partly I liked them because they featured hot babes, but other than that I liked them for different reasons. The first was well crafted and tried really hard to do cool things with the source material, while the other was just odd. Parts of it were cool, but it never really figured out what it wanted to be.

Quote
Beauty and the Beast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqr9blyD8nA) - I never watched this one, but it did have Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton

I loved this show - all the way up to when they killed Linda Hamilton's character and it became a chase show. Then it kinda stank up the joint.

More I just remembered...

Tales of the Gold Monkey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdFN6agkNnQ) (the dog rules)
(plus the pilot movie opening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe_zbyn1hQE))

How did we go five pages without MacGuyver (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz8CbhxVJy4&mode=related&search=)?

Brimstone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qotcZIqQGYo)

Twin Peaks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oDuGN6K3VQ)

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1obwMjzUY9M) (before the revamp)
(plus the one with the words (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77H5nHdcyQM&mode=related&search=), so Glen Larson could earn an extra royalty every time the music was used)
(and this weird Bond-style intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyag7rSfaPo&mode=related&search=) I never saw originally)
(and the one after the revamp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPxA4M_8nbI), when Buck, Wilma, and Tweedy were joined by Hawkman on a starship called the Searcher, searching for... something, can't remember now)

Wonder Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_blOQEu9ws)

The Incredible Hulk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPz5o5WEpoE)
(plus the Lonely Man theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m4dAB7o2Cc))

and (shudder) Baywatch Nights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4RNB76aGZI&mode=related&search=) (it's your run-of-the-mill bouncy bouncy beach show - with vampires!)

The biggest problem I had with BoP is that they wanted to make it a Batshow without the Bat (thereby alienating a chunk of Bat fans who objected to his just sodding off), then used versions of the characters that most people weren't familiar with and which didn't ring true to the source material (especially Dinah).

They could have gotten a lot further with it by keeping the original premise of the Huntress (essentially a female version of the Golden Age Batman, the one who used lethal force), or if they were going for the Earth 2 version of character, made her the teen character of the trio (which given the age of Babs would have made more sense).

MacGyver was mentiond earlier on here....

Yes, the dog on Tales of The Gold Monkey does rule. ... We need another show set during that timeframe on TV right now.

Someone tell me if any of you recognize the shows I'm about to link. I don't know if they ever aired in the US or across the pond:

The Beachcombers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C73MgyeblHs) this show had some of the best maritime chase scenes.

The Littlest Hobo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PINxfouNQFw&mode=related&search=)...nevermind that he's a dog. His class is definitely Pointman.

Traders...Placeholder because I have yet to find the intro music.

Which is why I'm posting in Alphabetical order ;D

Some of these are hard to ... classify. Some of the postings are just urls or a word, not related to the show that you have to click to see what the show is.

And some are just so buried in verbage that you miss them so I'm posting my "shows" in a seperate post than any of my comments to try to alleviate that.

Have Gun Will Travel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmgg8EFx3yU) - Was it a bad sign that I recognized Paladin when he made a cameo in a Star Trek novel?

And as a semi joke - can anyone name what television show had this as its theme song?

The sky is green and glowing

Where my heart is
Where....the scented lunar flower is blooming
Somewhere, beyond the stars
Beyond Antares

I'll be back though it takes forever
Forever is just a day.
Forever is just another journey
Tomorrow a stop along the way

And let the years go fading

Where...my love eternally is waiting

I had plumb forgot this thread :o

Yeah I know some of the above have been mentioned before but I thought I'd start to make things easier to find.  :P Any objections to me adding already mentioned shows into the alphabeticaly sorted thread?

And yes I could start adding these to the wiki but I think I'll wait abit and see what we catch!

Actually I see at as a precursor to Transformers et al. Shows designed primarily to sell toys were not new to the 70's. They just took it to a new level.

Perhaps one of you guys can help me remember a couple of shows I've been looking for. The first was a police S.W.A.T. show from the late 80's-early 90's that used Janet Jackson's "Nasty Boys" as it's opening theme song. The second was a show that took old movies and dubbed over new, funny dialogue over it.

ThunderMonkey, you've just put the biggest smile on my face for a long time with that second Electric Company intro. I was 5 years old again for a minute. ;D Does anyone remember the Bloodhound Gang from that show?

The one with the old movies would probably be Mystery Science Theather 3000.
The people who worked on it are still around and doing the same stuff in slightly different formats.

I'm guessing the second show is "Mad Movies." They ran for several years on the USA network. I couldn't find much on you tube. Just a couple of episodes doing Sherlock Holmes. The best one I saw when It was on was a Captain Marvel serial, and they did the original DOA.
MST3K came later and did a slightly different thing.

Edit: Never knew Dennis Franz was in Nasty Boys...

YEs, I forgot about J-men forever. I believe it procedes the original Mad Movies, and may be what the orignal poster was thinking of. The two shows are amazingly similar though.

The orignal mad movies used some of the same voices Jay Ward used, which was a great effect. I specifically remember Hunchback of Notre Dame sounding having a cartoon voice that was often used on Bullwinkle.

Lou Grant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7H-huakZzw)
An odd spinoff from Mary Tyler Moore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-zpGtVtqQk) - completely different theme, only one character in common, but there you go.... The scene I remember best from MTM was Ted Knight's character looking up in one of the minor characters bedroom, looking worried, and starting to comb his hair while looking up. He never mentioned a mirrored ceiling, but you knew it was there.

The Auld Grump, me Mum liked that show....

Heh, I am old enough to *cough, wheeze* seen the original, at least after it made its way across the pond. It was wonderfully low budget, for the scenes where the ghost suddenly appeared the whole onstage cast would freeze, the actor playing the ghost would walk on, take his position, and everone would unfreeze. The little bit of film with everyone frozen and the ghost walking on would be left on the cutting room floor. :P

I found it while looking for the soundtrack from the original, which might be good for use in game, and I don't think that anyone else at the table has ever seen the show, at least enough to recognize the music.
