Title: Darkest Hour - PbP (Announcement & Game Admin)
Post by: MugMug on August 31, 2009, 05:08:24 PM
I plan to run Darkest Hour as a PbP. I have space for 6 characters 8 characters (one of which is reserved for my wife if she wants to play). Play will start on some as-yet-to-be-determined day this weekend.

I'll fill the "table" in this order, whenever I get around to it Saturday morning (GMT -07:00):
a) players with complete characters, and who have not read the adventure;
b) players with complete characters, and who have read the adventure (be honest);
c) anyone else, if I can reasonably slot you into the story.

While slots are generally first-done-first-in, I reserve the right to apply differential treatment based on special criteria (I can't think of any, but am giving myself the out). However, once I confirm you on The List you're guaranteed a slot. Note that your place in line is based on your character being submitted, not simply indicating interest. That has the incidental effect making the playing field a little more even for those of you in non-CONUS time zones.

Character building, campaign qualities, and house rules to follow.

The List:
1. MonkeyLips (that's what happens when you tell your husband your login name doesn't matter :P)
2. Agent 333
3. Antilles
4. spinningdice
5. Wolverine
6. foproy
7. NezMaster
8. MordOptiMax

Posting deadline for a turn will be Friday, 1200 (noon) MST (GMT -0700), though I may advance the game prior to that time if everyone has weighed in.

[EDIT: Added posting deadline.]
Title: Character Building
Post by: MugMug on August 31, 2009, 05:10:32 PM
1. Characters start at 3rd level.

2. I don't care about class mix; that's up to you guys.

3. This will likely remain a one-shot adventure.

4. All options in FC are available; none are available from other products.

5. All core species are known in the world, though smaller communities are less likely to have experience with non-resident species.

6. You may spend Reputation prior to the start of the adventure, but not your Panache-based income. Ask about any other resources I'm forgetting.

7. Run any Animal Partner / Personal Lieutenant builds by me for approval.

8. See house rules elsewhere in this thread.

9. Post your character in this thread. Ask any game admin questions here as well.

10. PM me if you need alignments, paths, and so forth. It'll take me a bit to pull them together.

Title: Basic "Campaign" Info
Post by: MugMug on August 31, 2009, 05:29:57 PM
Era: Feudal

Campaign Qualities:
Some of these Campaign Qualities won't really come into play for a one-shot, but I'm building my likely list of qualities for future campaigns.
- Adventure Insurance
- Code of Honor [basic Western morality]
- Complex Heroes [shouldn't affect game]
- Fast Interests [note effect on character building nevermind, wouldn't matter until 4th lvl]
- Flexible Magic Items
- Greater Magic Items
- Miracles (Generous Universe; Warring Universe)
- Non-Scaling NPCs [still debating this one; shouldn't affect game]
- Sorcery (N/A)
- Triumphant Heroes

Title: House Rules
Post by: MugMug on August 31, 2009, 05:40:17 PM
Drakes:
1. General equipment cannot be "specifically modified for [their] use." Therefore, these items are not available for use by this species.

2. Drakes may not generally use non-natural weapons, however are granted the following stance.
Claws of Man: You may ready and use one-handed weapons. You may not move while in this stance (though you may still take Bonus 5-ft. Steps as normal).
Weapon and armor crafting/cost rules apply as normal.

Squeezing Through Tight Spaces:
You may squeeze through spaces no narrower than half your smallest facing (e.g. no narrower than 5 feet for a 2x3 footprint) or height. While in such spaces you gain the entangled and flat-footed conditions.

Gear:
1. The Barding Craftsmanship upgrade, Crude and Superior Materials upgrades, and the Discreet, Fitted, and Lightweight Customization upgrades may be applied to armor fittings. (upd 20090909)

Well, get those characters crackin'. :)

My experience reading the other PbP games is that many/most people don't get their characters done in time. That gives the motivated B-list folks a decent shot at playing.

Added #10 to Character Building.

As a general note, I'll edit those early posts and announce the change in the normal course of the thread.

This.

ETA: Only not so much it turns out. Despite intentions to the contrary I've only managed to read the first couple of pages so I have a basic idea of what's going on prior to the start of the 1st scene.

Spoiler: Description • show

Rokrah is every bit the model of a massive, weapon laden mercenary with a heart of gold. Except, you know, for being a goblin. He always tries to do his best as a warrior fighting alongside larger companions. In his native Hordelands, he fought side by side with Orcs twice his height or more, and held his own. He's set out to make a name for himself as a mercenary, and also to prove that not all goblins are worthless ankle-biters.
Rokrah wears what can only loosely be described as armor: a vest of finely woven reeds treated with mysterious alchemical processes and blessed by the tribe's shaman, granting it resistance to many forms of danger.
He also carries a massive axe that he bought with his first bit of money when he first entered human lands, and had the blade modified a bit to make it more goblin-like. He also carries a barwhip that he's brought with him all the way from the Hordelands, covered in nasty spikes and angular protrusions. A few other weapons he's picked up along the way adorn his boots and belt.
Rokrah is not terribly impressive, but what he lacks in stature he makes up for with sheer tenacity and battle hardened will. His dark hair is cropped short, and large tinted goggles always cover his beady eyes.
With a hide as thick as a rhino's and the spirit to match, Rokrah is ready for anything.

Slash's first memory is waking up his creator's laboratory, just moments before it was invaded by a horde of angry villagers - unhappy with the supposedly dark arts he was utilising. As he sat up, the mob advanced on the man and cut him down. Slash didn't know much, but he did realise that the man who had given him life had just been murdered.

At this horrific sight, something changed within Slash. A great rage swelled up within him, strengthening his limbs and quickening his actions. He grabbed the nearest weapon - a ceremonial claymore belonging to his creator - and leapt on the unsuspecting villagers. Their pitchforks and torches were no match his great clay bulk and massive blade, and soon he was the only one left standing in the room. It was only once the villagers were dead that the red haze lifted and he realised what he had done.

Knowing that, if caught, he would meet a similar fate, he gathered the clothing from the fallen bodies and disguised his inhuman features as best he could before fleeing from the town. Since then, Slash has carved out a career for himself as a sword-for-hire, never staying in one place long enough to attract attention, and certainly never returning to the town of birth.

I'm b, though I've only flicked through the adventure. I do have a 3rd level character though I'm not sure about playing "her"
Kabuki, Unborn Bard Burglar.
Background:
Built as an expensive plaything for the nobility Kabuki was intended to be a clockwork entertainer/dancer, however the magewright who built her unintentionally made her learn from the roles she played and she grew to yearn freedom, until one day she simply fled in the night.

Its one of my odd build to see how the system holds up... And inspired by this figure: http://www.wargamersheadquarters.com/image.php?type=P&id=63095
(for some reason I've been building characters based off my figure collection...)

Alternatively I've got quite a few characters built to 1st level, so it would only take 10-15 minutes to level them up to 3rd...

Link to character: http://spinningdice.googlepages.com/Kabuki3.pdf I might shuffle a couple of bits around before we start, if I get confirmed.

I can't tell you how grateful I am that you already know the direction you want to go. That saves me quite a bit of conversions work (I'll have to do it eventually for a home campaign, but now there's no hurry).

How about this:

Alignment: Lothian
Skills: Athletics; Investigate; Search; Tactics
Paths: Good; Light; Order; Protection
Weapon: Longsword
Avatar: Lion
Opposed: Baalhazor; Danace; The Demon Gods; Destor; Father Claw; Gorgoth-Lol; Maleskari

That work for you?

If there is still room, I wouldn't mind participating, I can make a character pretty much instantly.  I got lots of practice with teaching folks how to make characters in 2.0 that its really really easy for me to do it, just from the charts and tables in chapter 1.

I fall into borderline category b, as i own the pdf, and glanced through the first part.
I am also willing to play any archtype to fill a hole.

I made a new alignment, which'll probably need some work.

I'm not a big fan of Life and Death paths in the same alignment. I understand the whole "duality, etc" argument, but for me opposing alignments suggest opposing paths. Also, finding Death without Evil will be uncommon ('cuz, you know, the whole people not much liking death thing :P).

How about one of these? I copied out any alignment that contained at least two of the paths for which you were looking (Death, Life, Order).

Yurabbos
Deity of sacrifice and unswerving devotion to a cause. Often venerated by Dwarves [not species-specific, however].
Paths: Death, Order, Strength

Heiran and Nareis, The Sisters of Death
These twin death goddesses are feared, but revered for what they might do to one in the afterlife if not appeased.
Paths: Death, Evil, Chaos or Order [go with Order for the judge aspect]

Castain
Old deity of life, supplanted by Lothian. No longer worshiped. [Except for a few holdouts...]
Paths: Life, Order, Protection

Tevra, The Clockwork Goddess
Tevra is the daughter of Teun. She is thought to sleep now, but will awaken one day to help restore order to the world.
Paths: Life, Order, Technology [I will need to develop the Technology path if you go this route.]

Since he was a child, donovan has know that he was different, something about him seemed alien to other children. His hair has been the same bright white since he'd had it, and being that his mother had died and no one knew his father, he was raised by the church of lothain . He spent his life in the priest hood in training to become a chapel vanguard, and protector of his town. While donovan was out of town for a while, his home was attacked and destroyed, vowing justice, he set out hunting the group  responsible.

Upon finding the bandits who raided the town, he dropped to his knees and prayed for the strength to bring these men to justice. As he prayed a sudden bolt of energy struck, sudden feelings that he was about to burst from his armor forced him to remove it it was at that moment the truch of his father was revealed and who he was became all to clear. A great spread of wings near the length of his body sprouted from his back and a great golden lion appeared by his side. Donovan silently thanked lothain for the aid and began to form a plan of attack on the bandit camp.

After the attack was over most of the bandits lay dead all around him. The lion now dismissed its mission complete. He looked around for the corpse of the leader, but it was not to be found. upon returning to the spot where he left his armor, he found it changed, it was at this point he knew his job was not finished.

OGRE

Type: Large (2Χ2) biped folk with a Reach of 1. Your maximum
wounds equal your Constitution score Χ 1.5 (rounded down).

• Base Speed: 30 ft.
• Banned Actions: You may not make Influence, Outmaneuver,
or Tumble checks.

• No Pain: You ignore the first fatigued or shaken condition you
gain in each scene.
• Reviled: The Disposition of non-ogres decrease by 10.

GLADIATOR

• Bonus Feat: Combat Instincts
• Crunch!: Your Strength-based damage rolls inflict 1 additional
damage.

• Harsh Beating: The Fortitude save DCs of subdual damage
you inflict increase by 4.
• Paired Skills: Each time you gain 1 or more ranks in the
Athletics skill, you gain equal ranks in the Impress skill. This
may not increase your Impress skill beyond its maximum
rank.

Feats:
STONE BRAVE

Benefit: You may benefit from no pain twice per scene and
gain regeneration 2 and light-sensitive (see page 234). When
taking the Basic Skill Mastery feat you have access to a new
skill pair: Bone-Chewer (Athletics & Intimidate).
Light-Sensitive  20 flash damage
when he enters a brighter area. He also suffers a –4 gear
penalty with saves made to resist flash damage, though this
penalty is negated with eye protection.

COMBAT INSTINCTS

You react instinctively to fresh opportunities.
Benefit: Once per round when an adjacent opponent attacks
you and misses, you gain a free attack against him. If this
attack hits, it inflicts only 1/2 damage (rounded up).

HURLED BASICS
Your hurled attacks always find their mark.
Requirements: Hurled forte
Benefit: Your Strength modifier is doubled when calculating
thrown weapon damage. Also, you gain a stance.
Zen Shot (Stance): Your target’s cover worsens by 2 grades
(e.g. 1/2 cover becomes no cover). You may not move while in this
stance (though you may still take Bonus 5-ft. Steps as normal).

GLINT OF MADNESS

Benefit: You inflict 1d10 stress damage when you Threaten
an opponent. Also, once per round when one of your attacks
renders an opponent unconscious or dead, you may immediately
Threaten another opponent as a free action.

CLUB BASICS

Benefit: Each of your club attacks may inflict your choice
of lethal or subdual damage instead of the weapon’s normal
damage (no penalty or damage decrease occurs). Also, you gain
a stance.
Driving Stance (Stance): Each time you hit an adjacent
opponent with a melee attack, they’re pushed 5 ft. away
from you (assuming there’s an empty square behind them). If
they’re pushed, you may move into the square they previously
occupied.

Class Abilities:
Accurate: Your finely honed physique is your deadliest
weapon. Each time you spend 1 action die to boost an attack
check, you roll and add the results of 2 dice (e.g. at Career

Level 1, 1d4 becomes 2d4).

Fortunes of War I: You stand fast in battle, especially when
the pressure’s on. At Level 2, you gain Damage Reduction 1.
During dramatic scenes, this DR increases to 2.

Spoiler: "Brief Background" • show

Captured as a teen, and forced to fight in arena combats, Stonecrusher was billed as a mighty monster, undefeatable. He recently won his freedom in a free for all match. But when he returend home, he found his home had long ago been destroyed. Having no clan, and no where to return too, he lives on the outskirts, hiring himself out as muscle to whoever will take him, yearning to find acceptance from someone.
Stonecrusher is fiercely loyal to those who accept him, and is not quick to anger. Too many people made good money from him fighting before. From now on he picks his fights, and makes his own choices, never to be enslaved again.

[EDIT: Whoops, foproy beat me to it. That one seems particularly fitting given the "focus on taking blows," but if you don't like it let me know and I'll go dredge up a few more.

Hmm... I think I'll go with Tevra, a clockwork god semms pretty cool. What's her skills and weapon?

Of course you will; that's the one that requires I work. :P

Alignment: Tevra
Skills: Bluff, Crafting, Investigate, Prestidigitation
Paths: Life, Order, Technology*
Weapon: Double Pistol**
Avatar: Clockwork Golem
Opposed: <I'll get back to you on this.>

* I'll have to get back to you on this path. The first step is likely a bonus to Crafting, and increasing the Era of items you can craft by 1, so may be moot for a one-shot.
** As Military Pistol, but allows two shots before reloading.

I'm looking for an alignment for an Unborn god of Travel and Magic?
Also, I'm looking for a region populated by just Unborn, that have an arcane language as thier native language.

Ah, got it.

i would like to be from a society of unborn that have been creating themselves for a few generations.

A secret (or otherwise) society would be fine -- in fact, I'm going to steal that for my eventual home campaign. A society in the sense of having a civil government and population... probably not.

Unborn don't have gods of their own, though perhaps that could be one of the goals of this society. While Unborn can worship any god, Tevra has a particularly strong following. Also popular are the following:

Baalhazor
Originally one of the "Vested of the Galchutt," this minor deity/demon lord is the lord of chaositech.
Paths: Chaos, Evil, Technology

The Iron God
A mysterious deity of the old Prustan Humans and Grailwarden Dwarves. No image of this god is ever seen. He is the patron of all things iron.
Paths: Fire, Metal, Technology

Morachon
A religion centered around a craftsman deity revered mostly by Dwarves. He is the brother of the god Mocharum.
Paths: Fire, Metal, Order

Niveral
Also known as the Master of the Five Lost Lores (one of which is the Lore of the First Fire), Niveral is a minor god worshipped only by those who seek forgotten secrets and knowledge no longer known.
Paths: Fire, Future, Knowledge
<NOTE: This would be a good one for a secret society.>

Teun
Another old Prustan deity, Teun is the goddess of machines and technology. She is revered by Grailwarden Dwarves as well as Humans.
Paths: Civilization, Order, Technology

Tevra <included for completeness>
Tevra is the daughter of Teun. She is thought to sleep now, but will awaken one day to help restore order to the world.
Paths: Life, Order, Technology

Ynchabolos
A god of logic, numbers, and order. His religion is small but wealthy and supported by influential people in the city.
Paths: Civilization, Knowledge, Order

I don't have the following paths figured out yet, so you'll need to wait a bit if you choose an alignment using one of them:
*Civilization
*Dreams
*Future
*Technology

i like the secret society idea, but i have taken the path of travel and i dont see it up there.
I'm looking for an alignment that includes the path of travel at the very least, one that has travel and magic would be ideal.
Should i post my char without the alignment for now, and edit it later?

<edit: Wait nevermind, i'm an idiot. i'm just going to take the path of fire instead, fixed.  Should be posting my char soon>
<edit #2: can i get the alignment skills and ritual weapon for Niveral please?>

Gear: Mage’s pouch
Treasure: 1C, 1L

[hr]

Vurkle is a mighty shaman among the people of the Eastern Horde. He and Rokruh grew up together in the same warren, forging a familial bond. Vurkle's magical talent placed him in a position of power amongst the Eastern Horde goblins. When Rokruh decided to leave the horde, Vurkle blessed his armor and gave him word that he'd always be ready to help in a time of need, though he is fairly cowardly and prone to not keeping up his end of the deal (Hence the Trust being low despite the close bond).

[hr]

I took the Fortune Teller from the Rogue's Gallery, added the Goblin Template, removed the Light Sensitive quality (because Vurkle is also an Eastern Hoarder), and upped his Spellcasting and Sense Motive by one each. Also swapped out Lady Luck's Smile for Charm Binding Basics and Spell Defense I and lowered his Attack by two for Crafting IV.

Spoiler: Background • show

Swiftwind is from a secretive group of unborn that have named themselves the "Self-Created".  The Self-Created have been creating other unborn to propagate their species.
They have been following the guidance of Nivarel, the Master of the Five Lost Lores, to uncover their beginnings.
They believe that there was once a god that created the unborn to serve some important purpose, although that purpose is still unknown.
It is said that the First-Created passed down the knowledge on how to create new unborn to be their successors.
They still haven't figured out what happened to the First-Created or their nation, but they have uncovered an ancient tome written in their original language. The Self-Created now use this language exclusively within the sect, and guard it from being taught to outsiders.
Parent(s) have traditionally given up a piece of themselves to their progeny when creating them, whether an eye, leg, hand, or hairpiece. "Swiftwind MK. II" has the face of "Swiftwind MK. I", the left foot of "Granitehammer", and the fingers of "Roy's Brass Monkey"

Swift has just been sent out on a pilgrimage to seek out an important secret about the First-Created, though he knows not where to start.

While making this character i came across an ugly combo of abilities that results in a defense of 40 at level 3:
Spoiler: show

Unborn with many-armed(Gives you six arms)
Specialty Shieldbearer(Gives you shield basics and +1 defense)
Soldier 3( Gives 2 melee combat feats by lvl 3: Shield Mastery, Shield Supremacy)
Wield 6 metal shields (1 in each hand, each gives a +2 guard bonus)
Shield supremacy increases the guard by +2/shield
with a base of 10,
the +24 defence from the shields,
+1 from shield bearer,
+2 from soldier lvl 3,
and +3 from a 16 dex
that makes a defense 40 Unborn Turtle

Would it break your brain -- or game -- if I had two fellow drakes as personal lieutenants?

Right Hand Man allows you to pick up PL with your standard feat choices

Right-Hand Man grants the PL feat, and allows your Basic Combat Feats to count as Style feats for the purpose of determining your PL's XP. That still doesn't explain how you would have two PLs.

All:

I waited most of an extra day in case there were any stragglers. Since we only had eight people post a character I'll go ahead and include everyone in the game.

Check the first post in this thread. If you've submitted a character and your name isn't on The List then I'm an idiot and missed you. Let me know.

A couple notes:
1. I will be starting in-character and out-of-character threads in this forum.
2. Posting deadline for a turn will be Friday, 1200 (noon) MST (GMT -0700), though I may advance the game prior to that time if everyone has weighed in.
3. If you've read (or flipped through) the adventure please don't spoil anything for the rest of the players -- separate player and character knowledge.
4. My wife (MonkeyLips) has never gamed before and, come to think about it, isn't that big into forum use. I know most of you from the forums (and some I've met) to be good folk; treat her well.

Thanks,
Walter

[EDIT: Added posting deadline.]

I think I'll go with the priest character, if only because I'm noticing a distinct surplus of ass-kicking skills and a distinct lack of healing skills here. I'll re-jig him to fit the new god sometime later today.

Sounds good.

I'm going to transcribe your characters tomorrow onto character sheets, for my convenience. If you (collectively, not just Antilles) make any changes after 0600 on 9/7/2009 (GMT -0700) -- that's about 16 hours from now -- let me know specifically what those changes are.

I assume you've no problem with the magic item I've made?

I haven't checked it for consistency with the rules (something I will do to educate myself on the magic item building rules), but as a concept I have no issue with the item.

Part of the reason to run a game is to gain real play experience with the rules before deciding how I want to amend them, so I try to keep an open mind in early games.

It's two charms and an essence, so it's only possible thanks to the magic items campaign qualities. Also, I'll probably be beefing it up somewhat, as I just discovered an error I made (renown is 50, not 10 reputation a pop, so I can't spend them there. Nothing else to spend reputation on, so one beefy magic item it is).

edit: Okay, that's a pretty beefy magic item... oh well, not like I've got anything else to spend the reputation on.

how are you able to buy a magic item without any renown?
Title: Re: Darkest Hour - PbP (Announcement & Game Admin)
Post by: Antilles on September 07, 2009, 12:24:56 PM
Because your maximum number of magic items are total renown + 1 (p. 187, "Keeping Prizes").

Post by: MordOptiMax on September 07, 2009, 12:46:25 PM
doh! i'll have to make a magic item then, i thought the "you can only buy magic items up to your renown x 10" overrides it,(0 renown x 10 = 0). now that i think about it, if you are starting with it you are not buying it. lol

Exactly. If this were a campaign I would demand story background indicating how you came to possess the item. For a one-shot I can't be arsed. :)

Reflex +3 (+1 Class + 1 Dex)

Was there an extra bonus in there to get you to +3?

Magic Items: Robes of the Wandering Clergy [Spell Effect (Mage Armour) 2, 2xSpell Effect (Bless) 1, NPC Quality (Fast Healing) 6, Class Ability (signs & portents I) 20]

What does the "2xSpell Effect (Bless) 1" mean? If you were aiming at having that charm applied twice that won't work -- with the campaign qualities in place magic items are limited to 4 essences/charms in any combination.

Armor: partial Fitted Studded Leather /w Light Fittings (DR 4, Soft 4) (175s)

* Partial Studded Leather gives you DR 2, Light Fittings adds DR 1, for a total fo DR 3. Did I miss a source of DR?
* That should also be Soft 3 (2 for partial studded leather + 1 for light fittings).
* I get a cost of 140s (40s for partial studded leather + 30s for light fittings, * 2 for fitted).

Double Pistol (dmg 3d6 lethal, threat 18-20, range 3x20 ft., qualities: bludgeon, load 7, unreliable) (ritual) (20 spare shots)

What does the "ritual" mean?

actually, the book says that armor upgrades may not be applied to fittings(p. 174),
so it would be (40s for partial studded leather)*2 for fitted, + 30s for the light fittings
total = 110s

I recommend highly against this. It leads to some wonky interactions and has that rule in place for a reason.
The biggest example I can think of is someone in any expensive armor with Light Fittings throwing a bunch of the Resistance upgrades on the fittings for huge savings...

Also, i have a magic item for your approval
the unborn construction bow that my character already owns:

Total Cost: 30 rep
Essence 1
Feat: Quick draw
    Cost:  20 rep

Essence 2
Exotic Damage: Fire
    Cost:   5 rep

Charm 1
Storage: 15 items
    Cost:  15 rep

2-handed weapon
    Cost: -10 rep

I will store 15 of my arrows in it.

I always thought the picture of the Unborn in the Species section was of a floater (hence the hovering and lack of legs).

As long as you aren't seeking any mechanical effect, such as found in the Floater or Many-Legged species feats, I generally don't care what you look like. However, it will be obvious to foes (in some fashion) that your appearance does not represent a mechanical difference.

For example, if you want to be legless but (mechanically) still be a walker, we can call it in this example some sort of ground effect fan that keeps you aloft. Therefore, you still have weight on the ground (for triggering traps), rely on the existence of the ground (for falling), can be tripped (fan temporarily snarled), etc. Basically, I'm willing to suspend a little disbelief.

The other option was to go with "lack of Floater or Many-Legged means you are bipedal," which may well be more reasonable than this approach. :)

That made the short list, but how about the following:

The Barding Craftsmanship upgrade, Crude and Superior Materials upgrades, and the Discreet, Fitted, and Lightweight Customization upgrades may be applied to armor fittings.

That gives a few more options while avoiding the crazy. Drakes are assed out of fittings, but that doesn't particularly bother me.

I think that's driven by Item Level, as found in Table 4.39 on page 199. I'm going to arbitrarily set Item Levels as 3 (same as your character level), but regardless of the item level you won't find an item that provides Mage Armor 1/scene and Bless 2/scene under the RAW.

If you're interpreting this differently let me know how, as I don't feel 100% solid on magic item rules.

Proficiencies:
• Bow
• Unarmed (Forte)

Your ritual weapon, which you get for free, is a brace of hurled weapons (flash bombs). As with all ritual weapons, they are replaced for free at the end of the next Downtime lasting 1+ days. These are hurled weapons. Did you mean to not take the Hurled proficiency?

That's a perfectly valid character choice, I just wanted to make sure the choice was made consciously. :)

No, on second reading I think you're correct... it'll be 1 use of both spells. Also, would the item qualify as armour, even though it strictly speaking isn't? I was wondering if it would qualify for any of the reputation decreases as specified at the bottom of table 4.32.

Your ritual weapon, which you get for free, is a brace of hurled weapons (flash bombs). As with all ritual weapons, they are replaced for free at the end of the next Downtime lasting 1+ days. These are hurled weapons. Did you mean to not take the Hurled proficiency?

it was done unintentionally, remove the forte in bows and add a prof in hurled:
Unarmed
Bows
Hurled

As long as you aren't seeking any mechanical effect, such as found in the Floater or Many-Legged species feats, I generally don't care what you look like.

i am a floater, can i decide to not be a biped and instead be a floating torso with arms and a head?

Sure, but you're stuck with your fly speed only (i.e. you are voluntarily giving up your ground speed). Given that your ground speed is 40 ft, and fly speed is 20 ft, that would be taking quite a hit for the purpose of flavor. :)

You are welcome to have retractable legs, which as a free action can deploy or retract. The deployment/retraction would have no strength behind it (i.e. you couldn't really use that leg deployment to do anything), but it would give you the floating flavor while retaining the higher speed for emergencies.

I was wondering if it would qualify for any of the reputation decreases as specified at the bottom of table 4.32.

I think no, but that does spark my curiosity as to the thought behind that footnote.

Pat says that things such as the fast quality may apply to multiple different modes of travel(pick one).
(page 28 of the q & a thread)
So, I dont mind loosing my ground speed of 20ft, and keeping just my fly speed of 40ft(+10ft from acrobat, +10ft from clockwork, 20ft base).

Okay.

[EDIT: It's worth noting Pat indicated the RAW apply fast to ground speed. I am, however, comfortable letting you move that around.]

Title: Posting Schedule
Post by: MugMug on September 15, 2009, 02:08:14 PM
Starting about a week from now I should be out of my house and into a hotel, as the movers pack and pick-up all my household goods. I should still have an internet connection.

On the weekend that follows (the last weekend in September) I will be driving halfway across the U.S., and then flying halfway across the world. :P I may lack internet connection for some or all of those four days or so of travel, depending on how things work out.

Thereafter I will be in temporary quarters overseas. I probably have an internect connection, given how net-centric the Army is these days, but won't know that for sure until I arrive. At minimum I will have occasional access through Wi-Fi points.

During this time of transition (the two weeks after this one) turn frequency may slow down to once per week. I don't expect that to occur, but wanted to give you a heads-up just in case.

Sorry about the delay folks; as predicted the move/travel was killing me. I still have to fly overseas, but this next turn should give me a few days to do so and recover.

It's all good, Walter :) Hope the trip goes well, and you don't get too many delays on the way there.

It appears my computer problems have gone away, based on 30 minutes of rock-solid performance (I'm optimistic; what can I say?). I just moved from a hotel to a boardinghouse. I'm going with the theory the power was buggy in the (cheap, Army) hotel; the alternative being something is loose in my laptop and the moving jostled it into place.

The damned thing was almost unusable before, and all based on mouse performance (which, in these post-DOS days, is central to personal computing). The mouse would randomly move and act like the left mouse button was being clicked or held down. Reading email or the forums was possible, though an exercise in frustration. However, when attempting to write either the cursor would relocate, text would randomly highlight (and then be deleted by continued typing), the window would be closed, etc.

Anyway, enough ranting -- on to playing!

Sorry for the delay, folks. The first (RE: overseas move) was anticipated, though I had hoped in vain it wouldn't interfere; the second (RE: computer issues) was unforeseen.

I should be in the same location for the next month at a minimum, and it appears my computer woes are gone, so there should be no further delays (say a quick prayer to St. Gates).

Next post is due at 1700 Zulu on 20091006. :P

I just spent a month without a computer... unintentionally. My "intermittent internet connectivity problems" which were "solved by my move from one hotel to another" were actually foreshadowing doom. Turns out those were cries for help from a laptop deciding life just wasn't worth living anymore.

I don't really consider my work computer a "computer" in the same sense as a personal machine. That whole use being monitored thing -- and particularly the blocking of (e.g.) the Crafty Games site -- make that the methadone to my sweet, sweet computer heroin.

On the plus(?) side, since I needed a new laptop anyway I went ahead and made the jump to the Apple cult. Yay me -- new, aesthetically pleasing, and more importantly functional laptop. I have also, with the help of a German-English dictionary and a quarter bottle of Scotch, managed to get the internet working in my new (and, finally, permanent for my tour here) residence.

So, please accept my apologies if I dropped out in the middle of a conversation (or, say, a PbP game I happened to be running -- sorry guys! :-[). It's good to be back.

Since you guys are a worldwide group, I imagine the week-long turns will be very valuable now.

And speaking as your prime spectator, I hope you guys are back on.  :)

I'm game if you guys are. Give me a few days to re-read the threads, re-create any files that weren't backed up before the move (and were, therefore, lost in the death of my laptop), and so on.
